Thread: Malkin
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey_Mind</b></div><div>I could honestly see Columbus doing this. They have a great Russian community, churches, restaurants barbers, market, etc. Bob and Bread loved it, but it wasn’t the ocean or the bright lights. Malkin may actually fit in well and thrive while mentoring the plethora of young Russians due to make their CBJ debut in the next 2-3 years. I know him and Torts would butt heads, but Torts may be gone at the end of the year.</div></div>

CBJ rejects with no hesitation. Malkin is 34 years old and injury prone. Ruhwedel is a 30 year old defensemen at a position we are stacked at. Aston-Reese? Really? Not sure he wouldn’t be closer to minor league than holding a spot on CBJ.

In return you get Savard, one of the grittiest and proven defenders in the league at 30 who has several good years left with his durability. Max Domi, a 25 year old center. Not top line center but solid 2/3 line center with youth still on his side. Then you get Bemstrom, a prospect whose ceiling our GM Jarmo thinks is high. He’s been playing on the wing but is actually a center. With Dubious gone and center depth thin, another young center is nice to have.

To be polite i don’t see how this trade is not bad. You offload some old players and get one of the most rock solid D-men in the league and some young forwards that bring energy. Without heavy discount, CBJ has no interest in 34 year old injury prone (mr. cripple) Malkin. He’s not the same player he once was and not the bargaining chip pens fans probably think he is.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vmach</b></div><div>I feel like Duchene is CBJ's best bet. He has been with 3 teams last year and he probably needs to settle down. Plus CBJ's GM will probably push him hard, including but not limited to offering him an over-payment, to justify all the sacrifices made during TDL. (its always easier to justify overpayment then losing all rentals).

Dzignle also has a good chance of staying, but if Chicago gives him something similar in value to Columbus, he is gone. I for one will not be surprised to see Dzingle in Chicago next year, I'll actually be more surprised if Hawks go for Panarin. I'd feel like Panarin Toews Kane line will be an overkill. (especially as Debrincat quietly developed into a 40 goal scorer on 2nd line).</div></div>

I really think all signs point to Bob and Bread being in Florida next year. Thats where they expressed interest in going, and they have all the leverage as UFAs to make it happen. I can see them even giving Florida a slight contract discount to get their wish. Bread is friends with Dadanov down there and I think mentally is sort of “been there, done that” with regard to Chicago. Chicago would have 3 players eating almost half their entire roster salary if Panarin signed there. A reunion seems unrealistic. Hard to blame a Russian for dreaming about warm weather and sandy beaches. While nothing is for certain, I do think a high probability to resign Duchene and/or Dzingel was in Jarmo’s calculation. I can only guess there were some private talks about “gentlemen’s agreements” for future contracts

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bdawggy</b></div><div>Nah, I'm not a kid. Its very obvious you are a kid or have no idea how hockey trades work. You're showing you really dont know much about what you're talking about.

We know Bjorkstrand is a great player, why sell low? Bjorkstrand for Bennett is a huge maybe. Bennett will never be a #1c unless some god like breakout happens. He wont. Ask Flames fans. Any GM would laugh and hang up if they called asking for a 1st and more for Bennett. I think youre seriously overvaluing him here dude. Hes their Sonny Milano. A second, Bjork and Nuti could land us a player like RNH or another 1c/2c. Dont know why you want to spend all that for a bottom 6 grinder that we already have plenty of. At most, any rational GM would do Stenlund and a third for Bennett.

Also, why Nuti instead of Murray? Murray is injury prone. He also is due a new contract, whereas Nuti has a great contract for a few more years. Also, Kukan and Carlson are not "studs". Kukans ceiling is a bottom pair defensemen and I've been following the monsters closely, Carlsson hasnt been good the last season and a half, and was obviously the worse player on ice for CBJ during the pre season. I like how you're acting like these two will be studs for us, but you're forgetting completely about Gavrikov, who is more likely than either of those to crack our top 6 next year.

And for the Florida thing, why are you calling Hoffman a center? Hes a winger. You act like they have no value because they want to leave. Look what the Rangers got for Nash last year. At minimum, Panarin is getting a first, prospect, and roster player and Bob will get a returning goalie, first and prospect. If we could swing Hoffman, cool, but Florida isnt giving away a Top 6 winger who's performing great for them for two pending UFAs. We would be lucky to get Bjugstad back. Also, you're forgetting that Bob would have to waive his NMC for a team that's ****ting the bed this season. And since you're acting like a know it all, when has Bob expressed interest in Florida? Hes never said that. You commented above "get informed on the situation here in Columbus" when you know the same amount as everyone besides Jarmo, Bob and his agent know.

Also, that Carolina trade is absolute horse****. Why overpay for that guy? Look at the other people commenting. You're not right, at all. We would be the laughing stock of the league if we made all these trades. I dont mean to be a dick, but just by looking through your posts I can tell you dont have a grip on the reality of trading.</div></div>

Sure sound like a kid with your classless personal attacks compensating for your inability to express your views with any quality reasoning. You flipped from saying the Hoffman trade is bad for CBJ, for Bob and Bread, to doubting CBJ could even get Hoffman for them. Make up your mind sir. Now your flipping the whole reality of trades thing back on me. Really? The unoriginal nature of your thoughts is revealing kiddo.

Bob has absolutely expressed interest playing in Florida. It comes from multiple inside sources in Columbus (probably leaked by his agent or CBJ administrative staff). Some slight overpay in these trades IS THE POINT to get the players I want for the roster i’d like to see, and to get teams to accept. No one from another team is coming on hear saying hell no or bad deal. I want to make sure these trades are doable to make the roster i want. Hence the name armchair gm

Hoffman can play winger or center. Sam Bennett needs a fresh start and more ice time like Milano does. I see more potential in Bennett than you do. Thats fine, its matter of opinion. Murray will resign, he didn’t want to sell himself short after all those injuries. CGY has more interest in Nutty anyway for playstyle reasons. ”Bjorkstrand is a great player” Will have to strongly disagree there. Carlson is very young of course hes not a stud now. He will be. The more ice time Kukan gets the better he looks. I agree Gavrikov has promise too. All the more reason we can trade a D man even if you don’t agree which one. Maenalenan will bring more of the toughness and grit that i prefer and replace Bjorkstrand withs lots of room to get a lot better at 22 yrs old. I like him and think he’ll be good for us. Hope i’ve explained my thinking well enough for you to understand but we will have to agree to disagree on a few things. Good luck sir

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bdawggy</b></div><div>Dude you're acting like such a know-it-all but just accept that these trades arent good. The Florida one isnt awful but a first for each of those guys has to be a priority. If were trading them to FLA then we can assume they're re signing, then the haul has to be bigger than Hoffman. The OTT one is pretty silly, but that calgary one is straight awful. That'd be one of the worst trades in hockey. Nuti has double the value of Bennett and Bjorkstrand has more. Even a one for one for either of those guys is bad. Plus a second? Yikes. Jarmo would be the new Chiarelli</div></div>

Your view on Bob/Bread situation is just not in reality. They will go to free agency and sign to Florida anyway because thats where they want to go. We don’t get bonus value because they resign with Florida and its a big haul for them. It doesn’t work that way, we have no leverage because we have no control over what Panarin and Bob do and Florida knows this. The choice is, assist in getting Bob and Panarin where they want to go, or get nothing at all. So yeah i’ll take a good veteran center in Hoffman. Sam Bennett was the 4th overall pick in 2014 and is only scratching the surface of what he can do at 22. You can’t wait until he’s a top line center to aquire him when he will cost a fortune at a premium position. At minimum the Flames will want to recover back a 1st round pick they used on Bennett and address a need for them (defense). Bjorkstrand has done little to have any real trade value alone, his production is almost nothing. On the other hand, we will soon have a logjam of good defenders and not enough ice time for them. Carlson and Kukan look like future studs and we’re not taking the cup home this year anyway. So why not prime ourselves for next year, think longterm, and use Nutty as a trade piece. I love Nutty but he is expendable. I’ll let your personal attacks slide because i think your just a kid. At the end of the day just look at the resulting roster and those lineups and tell me you wouldn’t be happy with that after losing Bob and Bread. A young prolific offense, and good young defense with balanced lines.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BurgerBoss</b></div><div> </div></div>

Where to start, a first rounder, roster player, and prospect for rental Panarin and Bob with his declining play. Your valuations are absolutely not realistic and completely disagree. Believe me i wish we could get a haul like that, the problem is CBJ just has no leverage. A veteran center like Hoffman is a great pickup, hes only 29 and have you seen his numbers this year, wow. Wennberg is simply frustrating to watch. I’ve never seen a center that hates shooting and scoring goals, he is not a good fit for CBJ. Chabot is better defensivly than Werenski and has a toughness i like better. We can afford to let Nutty go with Kukan and Gabriel Carlson, we are loaded with good young defenders going forward. Wtf are you talking about no potential for Dzingel? He has 20 G and 18 assists this season and is only 26 yrs old. He also is coming back to the land of his alma mater Ohio State. Also at the end of the day we have 2 centers in Hoffman and Sam Bennett, thats why we trade Wennberg the turd. Center is a premium position and by comparison swapping draft picks or losing anyone not named seth jones is nothing. Sam needs more ice time and is stuck on a CGY team with a lot of good forwards and center depth. (He is not a bust) He will be equal to or greater than Wennberg simply with more ice time, and definitely a better scorer. Milano and Sedlak have little trade value but need a career reboot somwhere they can get more ice time. Abramov is a lightweight and Texier and Foudy will be better anyway. In return we get a promising 6’4” RW in the mold of Josh Anderson to replace Bjorkstrand. Next time think deeper about these trades and look at what those new lineups look like. That roster is scary. Your assumptions on players and value are not well informed or correct to me. However, since you think other teams are getting more than fair value, it means all these trades are doable, which was my intention. It is hard to pry players away from other teams by offering just a “fair deal”, thats the reality. It doesn’t work like owner mode in a videogame. Again, these are trades that “I want to see happen”.
