<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CastingCouchGuy</b></div><div>nah probly not tbh. kevin fiala being traded for that package def sets a tone for miller. nice try tho</div></div>
One, Miller' can centre, Fiala can't, more value there.
Two, there's still a year left on a near 100 point player that makes less than 6mil, where Fiala just got close to 8 mil, again, more value
Three, Miller plays PK minutes, I'm fairly certain Fiala doesn't, or at least won't in LA
The only real knock against Miller is his aging, and he's proving to get better with it (stat projections are a heckuva thing)
There's overvaluing players and then there's realistic market demands, which you will not, even if it's not Miller, get a replacement for Backstrom this season that cheaply.

Hard no from Van, the only piece that makes sense is the 1st. Neither prospect is of any interest to Van. It's one of Lapierre or McMichael (from what I've seen on these forums, feels like Lapierre is a no go) and then maybe Iorio if another pick (late 3rd-early 4th) is tossed in. Otherwise there will be better offers to be had.

Also, that Miller deal, while fair, and I personally love, is probably not a deal that gets done. I'd love to have Marino and to bring Heinen home, but if a bidding war for Miller does actually happen at the draft, I could see this being one of the deals that just falls short. As a Canucks fan, I'm usually the first one to point out how we overvalued players, but Miller is one of the few that I see most other fanbase's undervalue (again, I feel like the value in that deal is fair though)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Analytics_are_good</b></div><div>Every post I see has Geno walking, can someone explain this? The notion that he’s washed seems unreasonable, his underlying numbers were fantastic last season!</div></div>
It's not exactly that he's washed, it's the fact that Pit just has a cap crunch coming up and age is definitely catching up to Geno. He's still a reliable top 6 centre, but he's going to be commanding money and term that just won't make sense to Pit, and their priority right now is Letang. It just feels more likely some team, either a competitive one with LTIR room to take advantage of, or a young one that needs a culture setter (watch Detroit as a sleeper on this with all that cap space) will overpay to bring him in

Islanders get needed defenseman kraken get top 6 forward
Feels like an overpay for Dunn, he's not exactly the most defensively reliable player, and on an actually competitive team I'd only have him as a 4-5 guy. I think the framework for a deal is here, especially since both these teams want to be competitive this upcoming year, but I think it's a little lopsided in Seattle's favour

DeBrincat to DET
Can't really see Chicago doing this deal... I think they do make a play at getting a first rounder back but I don't think they want to do a deal that has them sending DeBrincat and a pick. Zadina hasn't shown enough to be that valuable, and I can't really comment on Berggren as a prospect. I could see a deal where Cat goes to Detroit for Wallinder, a lottery protected first next year, and a 3rd, especially with Detroit having some depth on prospects at LD though.

JT For Timo
I don't think either team ever does this, but I think it's a harder no from Van than SJ.
From Van's perspective: Trading away Miller to most other markets, considering the starting price has been set since February, means a young roster player, a prospect with good potential and a 1st rounder, and it sounds like there will be a bidding war at the draft for Miller. You're only getting one of those pieces in Meier, and you're giving up draft capital to do it. Very few teams trade a near 99 point player with centre capability and a 2nd rounder for anything, let alone a more expensive, less consistent winger only 3 years younger that's also on an expiring contract. I like Meier as a player, he's a new age power forward, but this deal is a non starter.
From SJ's perspective: Meier is one of the few younger, high quality pieces on the roster that can transition a rebuilt roster and be a leader once contracts like Couture, Burns, Vlasic and Karlsson come off the books. You don't give that up to get older with where the franchise is at, even if it's acquiring a player like Miller. Plus, if stat trends are anything to be considered, it's going to be much more expensive to extend Miller than Meier, and if Miller falls off around 32-35 but he gets the 6-8 year contract he wants, SJ finds themselves in the same situation they are now, too much money committed to a window that's been slammed shut.

Hard no from both. The pieces that were included were two untouchables in Hughes and Hischier, a UFA in Subban, and a so-so prospect in Kuokannen. Even if Subban had a super value extension and NJ had a similar enough player to Hischier to justify moving in from him, Quinn is worth a lot more to Van, and other markets for that matter, than this deal suggests

Deal or No Deal
I think it's a no from both here. General consensus that I'm seeing is Washington values Lapierre very highly and Vancouver is looking for a young quality roster player, a quality prospect, and a 1st- very early 2nd pick (so long as the proper players being sent over as well) is the starting point. The picks are promising but I don't see Van wanting to bring in the other two players in this package when you can get better quality players elsewhere

Assuming Oilers cant land Kane
One of the few deals I see on here where, at least personally, this feels fair and makes both teams better. Only complaint is Barrie and Dougie Hamilton feel almost too similar, same could maybe be said of Ty Smith and Evan Bouchard, but Mercer would fit really well in the Oilers Top 6, and NJ adding another winger that can play with high end talent linemates is hard to say no to

Highly doubt this happens, Killorn is still an effective player, and the common misconception a lot of fans make is that overpaid = no value. Killorn hasn't lived up to this contract, but he's worth something to the right team, including Detroit. You don't need to ship him off with a 1st and an LTIR contract for nothing.

Fair enough, thought it made sense since he's back logged behind some solid players, it's clear the Canes want to make a run, and the comments post playoffs about not having enough skill is being addressed for fairly cheap at least next year with a 99 pt player

Miller and Girard
Although somewhat fair value, Van says no. Ty Smith fits the best on the return for Miller, but kinda is in the same mould of player as Hughes and Rathbone, I think Van would like a young RD with more high end stay at home capability. Zacha is a piece JR and Allvin like, but I don't think that's the complimentary piece in this trade. The bidding war that's about to happen for Miller, this doesn't come close to moving the needle, although it does fit was the ask was around the last trade deadline

The Only pieces of interest are Hughes and the 2nd overall pick.
No way do you trade a for sure top 10 D man for a maybe.
And for sure, Van has no interest in Blackwood. Vancouver is flush with good goalies. No need to take an average at best Blackwood.</div></div>
Even if Van wanted to create competition for the backup role this year, there's cheaper options than Blackwood. If NJ really wants to reunite the Hughes brothers via trade, starting price is 2 1sts (2nd overall this year, next year's) as well as Bratt and one of Holtz or Mercer.

Yeah, not gonna lie, there isn't a player on Van's roster currently where this kinda cap dump makes sense.... Even if it was Myers or OEL instead of Pearson, the bigger contracts or overvalued contracts still have value as players to some/most teams

Van says no, it doesn't make any sense with Allvin and JR's MO to take on Murray and Zaitsev, they like Martin, they're not about to sell low on Myers or Garland, and I don't think they efficiently get the player they want at 7th in the draft. Kleven is a good asset, but not in this deal

From a point of neutrality, this seems really good for both sides. Solid relief guy for Oettinger, plus Petry to replace Klingberg, and for MTL to get a pick and a prospect in a cap clearing move is always beneficial

Going to assume this is a situation in which neither Canucks or Oilers get Kuzmenko? Would assume if Oilers get Kuz that they'd try to trade Yamamoto/Puljujarvi for a goalie straight up, if Canucks get Kuz they'd probably cut out the middle man and just do a deal with ARZ and they get to keep Pearson

Crazy Cap Trade
Why would Van do this? Taking on extra salary with an older player and giving up a pick? Even with OEL's longer contract, (and full NTC, he's not going to SJ) he's still a serviceable d-man, good for 30 points, showed a decent two-way game this year. SJ doesn't want to do this, Van doesn't want to do this.
