Boston Bruins signed Mitchell Miller (3 Years / $950,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bruins1054_gmb</b></div><div>Awful story what I have read about this guy. However, he was a kid when it happened. Hopefully he's matured. The Bruins rarely takes chances on projects like this, so I am curious about what they see in him (both hockey ability and human character). Incredibly atrocious act against a disabled kid, no doubt, but a person's entire life should not be trashed by one bad incident in their youth.</div></div>
When he was drafted he apologized to the 31 NHL teams for his actions. But not the kid or kids family. This is not one incident in his early youth. This is an incident he did repeatedly as a kid and got repeated opportunities to show growth and remorse and failed to. Repeatedly. Over years

In case you needed to be reminded of who this moron is, here is a snippet from Wikipedia:
In 2016, Miller and a classmate were found delinquent in an Ohio juvenile court on charges of assault and a violation of the Ohio Safe Schools Act.[4] The pair were accused and found guilty of forcing a developmentally disabled African American classmate, Isaiah Meyer-Crothers, to eat a piece of candy that they had wiped along the inside of a urinal, repeated bullying of Meyer-Crothers, and repeatedly calling him a n*****. Surveillance video also captured them kicking and punching Meyer-Crothers.
Really hope this degenerate heathen gets whats coming to him, he doesnt EVER deserve to step foot on NHL ice.

My understanding is that he hasn’t reached out to the kid and given him a genuine apology.
It’s one thing to make a mistake when you’re young and be remorseful, this guy hasn’t shown any remorse though.

Just gotta keep running it back with this core… imagine if wsh traded one of their core guys after losing all those times in the 1st and 2nd round. You have to remember Matthews, Marner, Nylander are all 25 and younger. Still lots of growing to do both hockey wise and leadership wise. The time will come, no need to make knee jerk decisions bc u lose to a stacked Florida team or the back to back champs.

toffoli just went for a first, a former 2nd rounder, a 4th liner and a 5th and toffoli makes less money for an extra year
he's scored more goals than miller at 5v5 and on the PP over the last three years, also played better defensively. the tie breaker that sets miller apart is PP assists (he gets a lot)
1st round pick, liljegren, maybe a 2nd round pick and a roster player for miller and schenn will likely be the deal. maybe niemala instead of liljegren but the canucks want a RHD right now so it'll prob be timmy

Smith would be a great winger to have on the 3rd line and McNabb is a tough hard hitting D man, He's no Riley but if you get a package including Smith and McNabb It wouldn't be such a bad return package

Eh, it’s closer than you’d think. Vegas gets another top 4 defensemen, depth, and a decent prospect. Toronto gets a winger (position of need), a top 4 defenseman (replaces Rielly), and a 4th. I think Toronto should drop the 2nd going to Vegas but there’s some good pieces here.

I think they are trying to avoid a 3 year contract because they already have to deal with Kapanen and Rielly in 3 years.

But as far as term and Aav, it seems legit. At the end of Staals ELC year he put better numbers than Marner and he got a 3 year bridge for 10.23% of the cap, which would be 8.3ish for this year’s cap. Staal also never replicated those numbers again, so I think in that circumstance the bridge worked for the Canes.
Crap, thought I was editing but that works too.

Staal was also a centre, who had 45 goals and 100 points that year, if I'm not mistaken. Not to mention the fact that Staal didn't have anyone like Tavares playing with him, meaning he actually drove most of his own offense. Marner is a winger, who didn't crack 30 goals, and whose assist numbers were greatly inflated by Tavares and a lucky 20-goal season for Hyman. Staal isn't a comparable.
Goals are worth more than assists, and centres are worth more than wingers.

While I do agree that Marner’s numbers were inflated by Tavares, the same can be said about Marner inflating Tavares’s goals. The primary assists by Marner on Tavares’s goals dont paint the whole picture, but it’s plain when watching that at least 8-10 of those goals were gifts by Marner. By gifts I’m referring to “tap in” goals by Tavares and not the ones on the PP. Yes, it’s a hard job being in front of the net that Tavares is one of the best at, but finding him through a seam or even creating a seam to get him the puck is no easy job either. Their games complement each other.
I just used Staal as a comparable because his was the most recent I can think of where he had an insane season(more than 1 PPG average) during the last year of his ELC. By comparable I mean it’s a good situation to compare a bridge contract, not that they’re carbon copies of each other and deserve the same amount.
