2020 draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dzmets</b></div><div>Sabres pass. Not trading from 8 to late first for a bottom 6 center and a struggling prospect. It will take a higher level player or the Sabres stay put and pick at 8</div></div>
Brown's struggle is with injury, been a PPG player when healthy. Projects as a second line center.

Deadline Deals
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gofnut999</b></div><div>WTF is that Columbus trade? Put the crack pipe down.</div></div>
those 2 second rounds picks are going to be in the 32-38 range which are as close as you can get to the first round. Plus you get a young 2 way center in White that is still finding his game as the nhl level, probably ends up a middle six forward, and B level prospect who is having a good year so far in the AHL.
Is it and underpay? Sure, but Columbus' prospect pool is very shallow and you might be able to get away with it. Ottawa has the flexibility to upgrade any of these picks / players as needed (White ->L. Brown), (Balcers -> Formenton) (2020 2nd -> 2020 1st SJS).

MIN-MTL-OTT 3WAY

That's not the way 3way trades work. If Cap friendly had a 3way trades option i wouldn't have to split it. Ott is not trading for Pacioretty . If we could get him for Smith why flip him at all?

Only if you want to shed cap. Swap out Granlund for Coyle for no cap change (once Pacioretty extends gor 7 mil)

MIN-MTL-OTT 3WAY
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>this is not a fair deal at all. The Sens get Brodin for Peanuts, and the Wild give up way too much for what is effectively a lateral move from Granlund to Paccioretty.</div></div>
I guess it depends on the cap crunch MIN is feeling. They are getting a 10-20P upgrade in their top six and shedding 9+mil (minus whatever extension is negotioted with Pacioretty). OTT ìs only involved as a facilitator but could upgade Z.Smith to Colin White so that the pick goes to MIN.

Salvage
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sens4life</b></div><div>Yikes that Hoffy tade...</div></div>
So the former 5 overall with the 42nd overall isn't worth the gamble for a guy you need to trade anyway? Mike Hoffman isn't a 30G/60+ pt guy, he's a good consistent 25G/55pt which is good but not elite. He was never going to be worth more than a first and a good prospect or a 1 for 1 swap with another veteran top 6 top 4.
This trade is about clearing the air in the room. We get a young middle 6 center who hasn't lived up to his potential and might want another shot at proving himself ( and a high second rounder (which we don't have). Maybe you squeeze the 2019 2nd out of it or try to upgrade to their 2019 1st, but you need to show Karlsson you're serious about keeping him.
You then go aggressive after 1 of the big LW free agents (JVR, Neal or Nash) to replace the scoring lost in the deal.

No way are the sens trading Hoffman and Stone + for those two. I think value is fair since I've got fans of both teams saying it's an overpay.

Crazy?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sabres89</b></div><div>You had me until you added ryan. Dahlin for svechikov and ristolainen works, plus minor adds to put a bow on it, but tacking on a 7 million dollar cap dump for 5 years is a bridge too far. Better off moving a forward to address the tire fire on d than do this. Condon adds nothing, i dont want a goalie included in any major deal, people get the impression that the goalie adds value.</div></div>
I agree that it was a big ask but Ottawa can't afford to take on Ristolainen without sending money back. Despite his massive contract Ryan is still a middle 6 winger who could have a few decent years if he stays healthy. The swap with Ristolainen only increases Buffalo's cap hit by approx 2.5 million. I think a goalie under contract is a good add for a team that has none considering the poor quality of backup UFAs this year.

WILD thing
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BigBeardBurns</b></div><div>So ur saying Minnesota gives up 2 good players on good contracts to free up space, but they take 2 more players that will need new comtract soon? U can’t use the excuse to free up space with that trade.</div></div>
They immediately save 4+ million in cap space to sign Zucker and Dumba and have 2 more years burnt off the albatross contracts of Suter and Parise making them easier to deal in the future. Plus you get a 1st round pick that could end up being a real good player

I’d keep brodin and Granlund, too. He’s finally turning into a young star. Sorry, but no WILD thing.</div></div>
If Minnesota wants to keep Zucker and Dumba something's got to give. They're right up against the cap as is. Plus it's not like i was offering up scrubs. Hoffman has one of the best releases in the game and is on a very fair contract. You also have our most ready for prime time prospect (mid 6 forward) and a first rounder. I don't think you gave that deal a fair shake.

Back in the playoffs
I guess it all depends how much Montreal is willing to get rid of him. I think things have soured irreversibly between him and Bergevin, and we should try to cash in. Also, the only thing stopping Ryan from being a solid top 6 is the injury risk. And the price tag. Perhaps if Ottawa retains salary (in the 1.5 mil range) or switches the pick for Pitts 2018 1st it can get done.
