My guess is Kessel is one of the more pursued guys for exactly the reasons you pointed out, I think the top teams are getting savvy to not being tied to core players for more than a year or 2 especially in a flat cap environment. I do like the idea of Kessel though.</div></div>
No. It's an 8 team TRADE list... not an 8 team NO TRADE list. That's only 8 teams he's willing to go to. The competition isn't that great. I wouldn't give up more than this for Kessel.

Then AZ can keep him... Maybe you can change the prospect. But I'm not giving up much more than that for an all offense 34 year old on the last year of his contract. Especially considering he has an 8 team trade list. That's not a lot of competition.

Why Not
John Gibson isn't going anywhere in a trade that doesn't contain multiple first round picks... plus at least two high end prospects. Likely more than that if they're taking Murray's contract back.

What would it take
Phil Kessel has a 23 team no-trade list... What makes you think Calgary is one of the 8 teams that he'd accept a trade to? There's no reports that he wants out of AZ... any trade interest is on the team's part. I could be wrong, but I assume if he does leave AZ its to either a true contender.

Deadline
I like Strome, but JT is one of the few Avs forwards with actual cost certainty tied to him for another year.
If Johansson can keep playing as well as he did the other night, I’d be looking for a way to move Frankie. He’s a solid backup, but moving his $2 Million makes way more sense than moving Compher’s $3.5.

Niku is a LD. He’s played mostly on the right in Winnipeg, just due to their lack of depth at RD… but he’s left handed, and naturally plays the left side.

I interpret your trade as Vesalainen (as he's exempt from Seattle selection) and the 3rd Rnd pick to protect Copp, but who do you imagine them selecting instead? Stanley? or Demelo if you protect Stanley? Not sure I want the Jets to give 3 assets instead of 1 to the Kraken just to protect Copp.</div></div>
Those are all really strong points. Letting Copp go is probably the smarter decision… I just really like the player.

I’m not sure Copp is better than Hyman… they’re definitely comparable… but someone has to go to Seattle.
The other option would be using one of Niku/Vesalainen in a deal to protect Copp from Seattle. My concern was mostly about Andrew Copp’s contract negotiations, given what happened last time… but you make a really good point.

Alright Lets give Laine a go
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>flyersarephilly</b></div><div>I know the jets don't need to move Laine and if that's the ask the Flyers wouldn't make the move for him. The rumored ask is a top 4 d or top 6 center and 2 1st or a top 2 d and 1 first. In this you do get a top 4 d and possibly even a top two in a year or two and a top line forward who is also just finding their way in the league. If the season played out in full Konecny was projected to put up 30 goals. It also doesn't make sense for the jets to trade him for a winger as the main piece</div></div>
Then a deal probably doesn't get done.
No team is giving away an elite talent without getting a quality player in return. Like you said, the Jets still have the option of keeping Laine, and actually playing him where he should be played. If you want him, it's going to cost. This is not a team trading a player looking to rebuild... If they're trading him, its to try to improve the team by changing its identity. Hence Konecny being the starting point.

Yeah, Konecny is a good player... You don't get an elite talent without giving up good players.

No deal from WPG.
1) They are not looking to take another step back...
2) There needs to be salary going towards WPG, for this to make sense... Hence Konecny.

Maybe Winnipeg takes Patrick... But I don't see that being adequate for them. The biggest thing they're after, aside from a round Defenseman, is a forward with cost certainty. You don't get that with Frost or Patrick.

What the Jets should be doing
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CowSaysMoo</b></div><div>Unfortunately, I don’t see the Wild and Jets being good trading partners. The Wild need a top-6 C when the Jets themselves need a 2C. And there is no way they are moving Scheifele. While I think Roslovic is a good player, he is not a sure fire center. The Wild need to hit with this trade and get exactly what they want. Even if that means adding on top of Dumba to get it. He is the only piece left on the roster that is moveable and can get the Wild what they need without blowing a hole.
Thanks for the name compliment. It was my old gamertag on Xbox360. Had to keep the legacy going.</div></div>
You're probably right... but I don't see many teams offering up a top 6 C for Dumba alone... those Centers aren't that easy to come by.
I would be happy to see the Jets keep Roslovic, and sign Hamonic too.

Why isnt Laine considered untouchable
He's not going anywhere... In all likelihood he's being used to get conversations open, so the Jets can work out deals for guys like Roslovic or Niku. The Athletic is reporting that the asking price for Laine and Ehlers is unreasonably high. Neither of them are going anywhere.

Cost For Ehlers
According to Murat Ates of The Athletic - Winnipeg, the asking prices for Ehlers and Laine are unreasonably high... Like a top 6 FWD/top 4 RD, and a 1st.... so, I guess Pulock and a 1st... or Nelson and a 1st.... Which I don't think would be a good deal for the anyone... So, as much as those two guys might be "on the block", they're not going anywhere. The price is too high. My guess is that the Jets have them out there to start conversations with teams, to hopefully work out deals for guys like Roslovic or Niku. Seems unlikely that they would trade any of their top 5 forwards.

In fact, forget Edmundson, keep Hamonic.... DeMelo, Hamonic, Pionk down the right side. Then bring back Beaulieu, and run Morrisey, Heinola, and Beaulieu down the left. Give Samberg a year in the AHL. Word is his foot speed is not quite at the NHL level yet. Meanwhile, Ville Heinola is literally dominating in LIIGA right now. (4 Points in 4 games... 70+% CF)

Close Jets add
The Jets add? Yikes.
Frankly, I don't think the Jets are interested in a 1 for 4 deal... If it's going to be anything, It's going to include a 1st round pick, and Nick Suzuki... I doubt the Habs would be interested in that, so I don't realistically see a deal happening. Further, with the supposed high asking price for Laine and Ehlers, I don't realistically see a deal with anyone. The Jets are going to want an under 25 year old top 6 forward, or an under 25 top 4 RD, and a 1st round pick.

I don't think there's a reasonable conversation the doesn't involve Suzuki, to be honest. Despite what Frank Servalli thinks, there doesn't seem to be any interest in the Jets actually trading Ehlers or Laine. Every reporter who is actually based in Winnipeg is saying a deal would have to absolutely blow the doors off Cheveldayoff for either of them to move.... and it won't be a 1 for 5 deal. I think if Suzuki isn't on the table, neither are Ehlers or Laine.
