<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NYR1983</b></div><div>Buying out Trouba would give us the 4m to match Kakko alone. Not signing a 6m 2C this summer like most think. Lindgren could easily be traded for a nice return while moving Jones into that spot. It’s going to need to be a 6m+ for them to let him got for picks. Chytil, Goodrow, Reaves all have trade value as well. 4.2M isn’t going to be an issue for the basically extinct OS. If no one did it to TB after Stanley cups for better players(Cirelli, Serg, Cernak) then KAkko is safe</div></div>

Not necessarily. Teams might OS Kakko with the intentions of going for the bigger fishes, so to speak. Lafreniere, Miller, and Chytil would be due after next season, with Lundkvist, Shneider, and Lindgren the year after that. It would really never have been about just Kakko, as he is the smallest fish on the list. With the contract Reaves has, he doesn’t hold much value. For someone who plays between 7 and 11 minutes per game, really only to be a goon, you aren’t getting much for him.

If the Rangers don’t sign a 2C for 6mil, would they bump Chytil up to 2C? Yes it gives them cap space, but the cost would be not being a contender. So is it really worth the Rangers matching an OS to Kakko? With the bigger fish involved in the big picture, no Kakko is not worth it. The worst thing that could happen would be the maximum for a second rounder for 1 year. Much like the KK situation in MTL, if he gets matched, he either gets traded or doesn’t get qualified. I think the Rags take contending for the cup over Kakko.
