Barrie is still the 29th highest scoring D in NHL history and only half of his career has been with elite forwards, his xGA numbers ~30th percentile

So he's just meh defensively

The fact that he drives play helps that a bunch

Vrana being much better at scoring and Corsi than bo and having an extra year of contract until UFA makes it really wild to suggest his other qualities are valuable enough to make it so DET would have to add Zadina and a mid 2nd just for him... he's not magical

Yeah it's really really underrated how McDraisaitl aren't a big enough cap hit to preclude quality depth like 20M for two players at that level is a bargain

60ish win team should be the expectation

10 NHL teams similarly have at least two players making 20ish million, rarely both elite, often one of them is a terrible contract even

Then most other teams have 3 at 20M so

Yeah it really sucks whenever the gaslighting malarkey machine tries to spew up stuff to try and defend the mediocre work of Holland and especially chiarelli
