Yeah exactly. I guess if Pelech had a cheaper salary could be a fit to provide a shutdown guy and PK work he could maybe fit, but other than that I just see a lot of the reasons Lou should have been fired in NJD years before he was

It’s a mix of this year and in general. If it was only based on this year I’d probably have Demko at 2

Not even that. If kakko signs that contract why would we move him? That’s a great short term bridge.

his worth to NYR is greater than his trade value actually is. So whatever you think you would trade, add a decent piece to it

Accelerating the rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>I don't value Kakko that much. He has potential but a late 1st is probably the max I'd be willing to give up which is close to the value of Mesar. If it's Mesar Habs probably add another later pick, 3rd or something, if it's a pick by its self then it's Winnipeg's 1st.
Kakkos value is mostly determined by the risk a team is willing to take with him, maybe you get a rebuilder who pays more to take that chance but I don't see teams lining up to give up a 1st ++ for him</div></div>
So... I believe you need big body players who are good at defence in the playoffs on all of your lines.
Don't forget that Kakko's value is not determined in a vacuum. He is a young RW with size who plays well defensively and has scoring upside on a team that:
1) Is trying to win the Stanley Cup in the next 2-3 years
2) Has very few RWs in their pipeline
Mesar will not play on their team next year
Mesar doesn't have size
There is very little incentive for the Rangers to do this deal even if they believe Mesar is the better player long term.

Ya it’s not about today’s Nuke. It’s about 19-25 year old nuke vs 19-22 year old Kakko. Kakko is better defensively and better at scoring. If he keeps working on everything he will become the today’s Nuke is our point. And he still has 3 years to get to that age when nuke came to COL

Whats the difference between early Nichushkin and Kakko
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JeffW</b></div><div>Well nuke had to redefine his game after his time in Dallas, the reason he's so effective is because of his speed, added with a motor that doesn't stop, being the first guy to the puck and winning puck battles.. his shot isn't very good and his deke move is always the same lol. So paired with other skilled players he's the "hyman" of the line, he's getting better at deflections and is picking up a bunch of assists from mack and rants.. while slamming in pucks from the front of the net
Mostly he's just an effective big bodied puck carrier that doesn't quit on anything</div></div>
Kakko also has 3 more years to get to the point when Nichushkin signed with COL. Hence the reason drury is being patient.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rags21</b></div><div>Yea I was gonna say, I think Kakko has to find out what he’s good at offensively and he most definitely needs to work on his speed. He’s so damn good at puck possession but can’t skate away
It’s just funny how people on this site call Kakko a bust just because he’s not a point per game or the next Mcdavid</div></div>
Guys that get picked that high usually have an expectation of high production, it's not like he's alex turcotte or anything..
I always liked kakko, reminded me a bit of landeskog, so maybe if they can find a role for him like his he could be as successful

I agree but Kakko also isn't worth that 1st alone, so it's not a return that will ever be in the table for him.
Also, I just saw what that other guy replied with, report him
