Would you take that Boldy offer for Caufield? If not why would Minnesota take that? Boldy is better offensively, significantly better defensively, and cheaper than Caufield

MIN declines. I'd take Boldy over Caufield. Both are fine players but Boldy suites the Wild far more than Caufield.

Also, see <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/819232?post_id=4799679">this post comparing Boldy vs. Caufield</a> to hopefully give you a better idea as to just how good Boldy is and why he's untouchable.

Well boldy is a +3 defensively according to the athletic….. so I’m curious where you got the impression he does nothing defensively.

from minnys perspective
Hate to ruin the party but given it seems I'm the only Wild fan in this thread, this ain't even close. Boldy is untouchable. Him and Kaprizov are the only 2 forwards on this roster that can completely take over a game and put the entire team on their back for long stretches. I'm a fan of Guhle but our prospect pool is filled with decent Dmen and is bound grow even more with this upcoming draft. As for Yurov, he won't be coming over until 2025 as he signed a 1yr extension with his KHL team.
Our D lines are pretty much set for next season:
Brodin - Faber
Middleton - Spurgeon
Chisholm - Bogosian

I can see how what I said made it seems that way, but I wasn't trying to act like Dvorak is the main piece. Meant to say that from an organizational perspective, how is this a forward move for the Wild? A top 5 pick... who cares? Boldy is a proven top 6 star and the Wild are trying to compete now.

Can't see MN doing it - too risky, not enough incentive. Boldy probably goes top 5 (for sure top 7) in a redraft and he's under contract long term at a good number.
I think if they move a young player this offseason it'll be Rossi, not Boldy.

MN declines. No incentive or reason to trade Boldy. Locked up long term at a good number, plays a 200 ft game and scores.
There isn't gonna be a market that works for both teams. MTL wouldn't pay what it would cost.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>joshelkin</b></div><div>$14m buyout dead cap comes off the books.</div></div>
Which doesn't magically solve all their cap requirements. They'll have ~$40m to work with in your hypothetical scenario and need to sign 11 or 12 players. If Faber keeps it up, he could very well eat up around 1/4 of that on an 8 year deal and they'll still need to figure out a top 6 center to play with JEEK and a LHD to play with Spurgeon on the 2nd pair so that's possibly another 1/3 of that and the other ~$15m + whatever the cap goes up by will go towards the remaining 8 or 9 players which ideally won't all be league minimum plugs. I'd much rather they do that then throw away ~$5m on an aging vet that is only going to decline further.
Gaudreau isn't a problem. He's either the 4C or buried in the minors with under $1m in dead cap. That's nothing. But you already know how stupid this deal would be for the Wild, which is why you'd like to see it as an Islanders fan.

You're right it would fit next year, but have fun in 2025/26 extending Faber, Rossi, Khusnutdinov, and Wallstedt while ideally locking up at least 2 of them long-term and either giving Middleton a raise or finding a replacement top 4 LHD and filling out the rest of the roster to be competitive enough to convince Kaprizov to extend.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MajesticWalrus</b></div><div>Ill admit it could definitely take another sweetener but there's no bad players going the other way. Jarry is great and joseph can definitely turn into something, he's shown he's one of the fastest skaters in the league too. Along with high picks.
Minnesota on the other hand, it could be argued fluery is the lowest of value in this deal due to contract and performance.</div></div>
Brodin isn't available and if he was, we sure as hell wouldn't be retaining 50% for 4+ years in exchange for a goalie, an unimpressive defenseman who "can definitely turn into somebody" and 2 picks in 2026. That's insane.
Fleury is almost completely irrelevant to my decision here. Take him out and it wouldn't change anything. We already have $14.74 million in dead cap space this year and next. You're proposing we give you our top shutdown defenseman and make it $17.74 million in dead cap. Jarry isn't bad, but he isn't cheap (remember the dead cap?) and he's signed to term when we have our goalie of the future (Wallstedt) ready to make the jump to the NHL very soon. POJ is playing 13 minutes with uninspiring defensive metrics. The 2 picks lose a lot of value being that far off. Unless you go into a full burn it to the ground rebuild, which I doubt happens, those picks won't be particularly early either.
In other words, this trade makes absolutely no sense from Minnesota's perspective and gets shut down immediately.

Hmmm
Minnesota would prefer a better pick without the extra players. We're already at the roster limit and need to drop people once Khusnutdinov is stateside and our injured players come back into the lineup so the 2 rentals are more of a hindrance than a help. Duhaime at the deadline is worth more than a 6th round pick 3 drafts from now.
