Hyman becomes the most beloved player in Toronto
Buddy he could be Bobby ****in' Orr and they still wouldn't have any use for one season of him.
I don't know if you've seen the standings lately but the Wings aren't exactly one piece away from contention.

Yes.
One year of a 2nd pair defenceman or several years of a 2nd line winger.

The Nuclear Option
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>I’m guessing this is a pretty common misconception</div></div>
Brought to you by the same league that gave you:
"So the lottery is changed this year right? Oh wait so it's just the two lotteries not the three? The 2 times in 5 years thing doesn't start until next year, yeah yeah. Wait does that mean that lottery wins since 2016 count towards that or no? Wait no the 2 in 5 starts COUNTING next year. Wait did they change the odds for this years lottery? Why is Arizona there I thought they lost their pick? What the hell why don't they just re-do the odds?"
Also the same league that schedules the two playoff games of the day at 4:30 and 5:00.

The Nuclear Option

The games played requirement is only for determining whether a player meets the team exposure requirements (2 signed forwards, 1 signed defenceman, 1 signed or RFA goalie).
Svechnikov is not exempt from the expansion draft, and thus is eligible to be picked.

another RHD
Detroit likes Hronek enough to play him like an all situations, heavy usage top pair D. Jost is a good asset but the value just doesn't work at all from Detroit's perspective.
The Wings value Hronek as a key piece of their team currently and moving forward, any return has to be a player that matches that description. This is all whether Detroit drafts Drysdale or not.

Utilizing Cap Space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MisstheWhalers</b></div><div>Why sign DeMelo when you have so many solid young RHD already? Seems like you could use a LHD if anything.</div></div>
He's an incredibly good player who's been undervalued his entire career. There's no LHD in the UFA class that will get you the value for money he will.
It's also not like the Wings can't find room for a right hander, the only long term RHD in the system are Hronek, Seider and Lindstrom. If each one of them becomes a regular by 21/22 then one of them can just move to the left side. Either that or find a trade for one of them. There's also an immediate spot for Demelo in the top 4.

It really is, this from a Wings fan.
Logan Brown is a much better asset than the 2nd+3rd, and a Filppula-Anisimov swap is negligible (and benefits Detroit overall imo).

Somewhat Realistic 2016-17 Roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div><i>Just thinking that Sproul age 23, and Jensen age 25, would not get a very high return as you suggest. Are they just AHLers? Howard, probably wouldn't waive his NTC and with his contract is he really going to worth a second rounder. Not exactly sure on the type of RFA Mrazek is, but either he signs a one year contract for price you suggested or if his salary could be matched by another team, he's going to get a lot more than 2.7m a year.</i></div></div>
I agree with the Mrazek contract, and have since changed it, don't know what I was thinking there. But I stand by both trades.
Jensen is an NHL level defenceman, and could probably step into most rosters and be a reliable 3rd pairing guy, he's just been the victim of Detroit's defensive logjam for years. Sproul is a big and talented defensive prospect, not something the Penguins have. Maybe you take the 4th away and <em>maybe</em> you drop the 2nd to a 3rd, but they're valuable assets (especially to a team like the penguins).
As for the Howard trade, keep in mind that Martin Jones was traded for a mid 1st round pick. If Howard had a low risk contract he'd be worth at least what Jones was, but his contract would drop his value to around a 2nd, depending on the team and their needs. Starting goaltenders are valuable assets, especially for a team that has had the goaltending issues that Calgary has.
