Totally fair, I was not 100% of Kanes value but knew it would take an overpay. I dont hate the idea of Vlad but the idea is the same in essence. Keep the group together and bring in a scoring winger with the big cap space

Would he really come to Carolina otherwise? We have the cap space. Im sure it's a bit aggressive but probably the only way it happens.

Imo, it really feels like they brought Stasny in to play LW. We are very light at LW without Patches and have a huge surplus of C/RW.

If you are ready to come back that early, you can’t be stashed there the entire year till playoffs. Tampa was shady with kuch being ready a few weeks before he came back. Patches would be 4+ months.</div></div>
Best case scenario right now is after the all-star break...which could easily be a bit optimistic for an achellies injury, but I guess we will see what happens

Is this not extremely similar to what TB did a few years ago? Doesn't his cap hit only count if he is active during the regular season? They are both expiring contracts as well. Maybe I misunderstood how it happened

Likely 22-23 Roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vikhodush</b></div><div>Is that in the CBA? I’d never heard of that before but might explain why nothing has happened with Gardiner yet.</div></div>
The way I understand, based on some twitter threads I read, is a player can only be bought out after being on LTIR if they pass a physical to get back on the active roster. Gards would have to willingly take a physical to do that and he is not required to take another mandated physical until training camp. So Gards was not eligible for buyout during the first window and while we will get another 48-hour buyout window due to Bear going to arbitration, that will most likely happen in mid-august so it's feasible to assume Gards would not have passed a physical before that additional buyout period closes, as training camp should start in Sept sometime. It's all pretty complicated but this is how I understand it. TLDR; The Canes are ****ed with Gards contract for now

Players who end the year on LTIR can not be bought out. Gards either has to get traded or is going to be our #3LD this season.

Tbh, I have no idea. There are several teams who could use a veteran puck moving Dman, but Gards hasn't been healthy for awhile so its hard to judge what his trade value would be, if he even has any. I have seen ARI, ANH, OT, DET and a few others rumored though.

Niederreiter to Colorado
As the roster stands right now, with KK on the books @ $6.1m, we (Canes) are only -$1,523,618 over the cap. You are correct if we bury him, we would be -$398,618. However, most people seem to forget a few things about Gards, and our contract situation in general.
-If Gards goes to the LTIR, which has been WIDELY reported, even by the team, the Canes will have $2,526,382 in cap space.
-If Gards can prove he is healthy, we have plenty of assets/prospects to move him and could even retain the maximum 50% of his salary.
We have absolutely no reason to ship Nino out.

100% this. It also bugs me how everyone says the Canes are "one top-6 fwd short" but continually ship out one of our top-6 fwds for Senko. Doesnt make much sense to me.

I completely agree, we have an elite defense but its all designed to push the puck up the ice quickly. I think we have sorely missed a guy like Eddy on D this season though in some games. That being said, it's obviously been working and i've really enjoyed watching every game this year.

The offense has looked amazing throughout the whole of the season so far. Defense has gotten burned alot the last week or two, more so than our style of hockey usually generates. Id love to see Ned get some more starts but happy Petr is already skating. Necas at C is interesting, we have alot of guys who play C right now and he has been producing at W, I'd like to see him get some run there but doesnt really look like Rod wants it to happen, unless we see some more sustained injuries at C.
