That quantity over quality, and Anaheim is going to want a large overpay for their untouchables. So this wouldn't happen.

I'm not saying he is average, I'm saying he is a below average but not terrible. "not anywhere near competent" is a way over exaggeration.

Grading players from 2019 draft
I'm surprised that RHP is only a C+ after the showing he had, I know it's a small sample size but players like Henry Thurn are also C+ and he spent most his time in the NCAA or Albert Johansson who was in the AHL. Dach and Byram being on the same tier as Boldy and Caufield is interesting (even if I think Caufield should be a A), Wolf being an A+ is a headscratcher, no question he is the best goalie prospect, but he hasn't proven it will translate 100% to a full season and you have him in the same tier as Hughes and Seider, I'm not saying he doesn't deserve the hype, but you have him in a tier of franchise players when he has 1 career game. It's a case of having to wait because that A+ is biased on potential when everyone else on the list isn't.

Trade Proposal that is like Wildfire
Protections on the pick is "top 10 protected, if top 10, Canucks have the choice to send that pick or a 2025 1st unprotected."
Keep in mind, this is not my proposal, I have just seen this spread from Vancouver circles to Montreal circles very fast and I wanted to see your guys opinions on it. Personally I think Vancouver isn't competitive enough for this to make sense, Myers is an extremely bad contract but that pick will likely be top 10 in both years. The only reason I could see them doing this type of trade is if they think Petty will ask to leave if they don't make the playoffs, but that still is extremely unlikely.

Where are you getting your numbers from? Because Pacioretty has 194 in 224 games in his career with Vegas and thats a 71 point average pace with a 36 average goal pace. Also Caufield on most defensive advanced stats is either around average or slightly below average, that is not "not anywhere near competent".

Because Caufield is so young, they are picking biased off potential. Caufield’s potential blows any Pacioretty totals for Montreal out of the water. Caufield has 48 goals and 70 points in his last 82 games, that is way higher g/gp then Patches ever did. That’s why he is second.

I think recency bias is playing a little bit with Galchenyuk, he was not a star by any means but he was pretty good while he was here, solid 0.55-0.7 ppg player for a few years.

They mentioned how his letter for Dach was biased on him in Chicago, if it were Montreal include then I would agree he is too low but they picked 3rd overall and got little to show for it. If Nazar turns into something it softens the blow, but still the potential star power they could have had was “wasted.”

2019 redraft
I like Caufield a lot, but having him second now is a bit much, if he realizes his potential and gets the 50+ goal 80+ point seasons then sure. But until he actually does it, I would have Seider above him. I would still put Caufield at 3rd because of the pure potential and my liking of higher risk, higher reward, but Caufield, Cozens and Zegras would be interchangeable baised on preference.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoxNix</b></div><div>Actually Calgary gains just over 1.2 M cap space with this and even more the year after when DeSmith's contract expires. Enough to call up another prospect, or 2 if they bury Desmith in the AHL.</div></div>
Montreal would easily be able to flip Hanafin and gain that space back if they wanted to. It’s only 1 year and they get out under Anderson for the 2 years after. So on paper sure, but in practice Montreal would end up with effective Vladar for 4 mil of Anderson in terms of cap which is positive. A bigger problem is the retention slot as well as the 1st making this not very enticing for them.

Montreal isn’t a position of need for cap space, and Calgary isn’t in the position to take salary.

I feel like having Norris as 2nd line would make you need to play 1st line more then the 2nd, as he is injury prone and likely going to not be much better if not worse then 21-22.

This trade just doesn’t happen straight up, Petry is an American living near the east coast who wants to be closer to family. No way he would go to the farthest west Canadian team in the league, Vancouver is 100% on his M-NTC.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lochness1202</b></div><div>This doesn’t really help Montreal even if value is decent. We still carry 2.25M on cap for 2 years minus Lafferty. So realistically it’s only clearing around 1M, and we are take on another roster player at forward which we don’t need. We need to clear roster spots up front.
Two of the main objectives in any habs trade is either A) clearing cap space B) open roster spots for younger players.
This doesn’t really accomplish A and definitely doesn’t accomplish B</div></div>
Absolutely perfectly described, well done sir.

Defense tougher
That trade doesn’t make sense for Montreal, idc about the value because the basis around the trade is the problem. Montreal needs to get roster players off of their team to make room for the young defensemen. So why would they take less potential assets that they could ask for from Toronto to get a roster defensemen they don’t need.

Montreal has absolutely no incentive to do this, Montreal just got a second for gaining 800k in cap, while this would be a solid backup and retaining 1 mil for a 4th.

Having Norris on the top line is ridiculous, he was only on a 68 point pace in a season where he had a 20.3% shooting%. Not to mention 2 injuries and a second surgery on his shoulder since then.
