Because proper interpretation of the data is superior to 100% of individual opinions. Lol, I knew it. Proper interpretation of data! What a joke. What data would that be? Are you actually making the argument that you don't have to watch the game to understand it? You can't possibly be that arrogant and silly can you? There is no publicly available advanced stats that return 100 % reliable results. All of it requires context and interpretation. Something you simply cannot get without watching the game. Either way, stop trying to convince Wings fans that your sad little campaign against Yzerman has any basis in fact.

Playing the kids
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>That's why I said Yzerman was being stupid throwing some of these contracts out and all I heard from DET fans on here was how it didn't matter because they had cap space. Now Detroit is loaded with quality young players entering their primes where Yzerman restricted his cap space to sign them all to optimal long term deals.</div></div>
What cracks me up about people like you is that you arrogantly rush to tell every teams fan base about their team while obviously not actually watching that team at all. You can't understand hockey by looking at numbers on a paper no matter how hard you squint. Watch other teams play, gain some perspective. Or don't and just keep looking foolish and ignorant.

ASP was really, really meh at the WJC, not even the third best Dman on his team. One could argue he was the fifth best Sweden Dman. AND he's regressed defensively with his Swedish team. A lot.
Meanwhile, Lindstein was the true and clear best Dman of the tournament, Willander was almost as good and Simashev is killing it in the 2nd best league in the world as a teen. Help me understand.</div></div>
I respect you most of the time but this is one of the most silly, uninformed takes you've had on here. ASP has not regressed; he's Injured. And your assessment of his WJC is lame. When he's with the national team he deliberately plays a safe game. He's actually been quoted saying this. You have to watch him in league play to understand. What he was doing this year in the SHL was historic...end of story.

Nor are we paying a player 12 orb13 million unless his name is McDavid, Draisaitl or Pettersson.
Also, what's with trading for a number one defenseman and then putting him on the second pair?

Detroit Season Start
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ennis</b></div><div>Holl stinks. The contract is just bad. "As long as he's not on the first pair", so signing a bottom pairing guy in a lesser role to that sort of contract is ideal? Give it one season and Wings fans will be itching to get out of that contract, just like the Chiarot signing.
Petry scores points because he can still pass the puck effectively but he can't do much else anymore. Can't skate and is bad in how own end. And he's 35..
Yzerman was looking decent as he was rebuilding but has just made some really weird and questionable decisions since. Wings fans, instead of acknowledging his shortcomings, still idolize the guy as if he's the best GM in NHL history. Cucked by the Yzerplan it seems</div></div>
Who said anything about bottom pair? Holl's contract is fine. Are we hurting for cap space? He's being paid like a 2nd pair defenseman; which he is. Again, he hasn't played a game for us yet so you have no idea how he'll perform in Detroit. Seems like Toronto managed to win quite a few games with him in the lineup, must be cause he sucks so much. Honestly the more you talk, the less I value your opinion. Kinda seems like you're trolling or you're a little to angry about another teams GM.

What does that even mean? Is that an argument? Petry has been good his entire career and Holl has great numbers as long as you're not stupid and put him on a first pair. So we should be fine sans Sheldon Keefe.

MacEwen
Even without Norris, you're looking at a very strong forward group. Greig, Jarventie and Pinto will be excellent
Not by much, the calculation is extremely hard to do with the LTIR but the time Norris spends on LTIR creates some accrued cap space
When he comes back, you send some of the waivers exempt guys to the AHL (Guenette, Smejkal, Jarventie) and run a 20-men roster
Maybe another LTIR will exist by then too, unfortunately</div></div>
Yeah, sorry bud, that's not how the cap works. Placing Norris on LTIR now when you're over the cap only returns you to cap equallibrium. You dont accrue anything. You would be against the cap with no ability to call anyone up.

It's been widely reported (by your own media) that both of these players have been shopped for the better part of a year and teams have told them they would need a "significant" sweetener to trade either one. Has anything changed besides teams filling out their rosters and their remaining cap space? Without a huge uptick in production neither one of these guys is tradable at their salaries.

Cossa is probably 3 years away from starting assuming he doesn’t regress, and Augustine is right behind him as insurance. No need to pay Helle all that when Detroit can just stay the course.</div></div>
