What Id Do
Rather just keep Hronek, although I’m game for moving him. Better for the Wings to keep quality over quantity at this point, and that’s not to say Hronek is a superstar that will return an arm and a leg. Wings need those top pieces rather than bottom/middle six with some potential. Rather the Wings shoot for a 1st in 23’, which I’m not sure if Dallas would do not should.

Would either team do this
23’ pick > 22’ pick. 23 draft is much deeper and highly doubt DET will be leaps and bounds better than the 8OA next year. I actually think they could be worse with OTT, NJ, and PHI likely leaving the basement next year for various reasons. I would rather trade the 22’ pick, 23’ pick should be the preferred option.

I don’t know enough about PITs prospect pool, but if you have a decent C on par with Ras lying around I’d reconsider. Ras has spent both time at C and LW. His W numbers are better, but style of play and size better fit C. He’s spent more time at C than LW.

I mean value for value I don’t hate the trade. I’m not even that high on Ras and see him better as a Winger, but have you seen the Wings Center depth? Rather just trade a pick straight up for Pet.

I don’t disagree with you, just highly doubt Stevie only makes mediocre depth signings to completely tank. Don’t think Bert makes it past the 23 draft, if he’s moved during the season that’ll make them worse with some extra draft capital.
The Wings over performed last year in my opinion, and even with Lalonde taking over I see the 10 and under range as more realistic. NJ and OTT will be more aggressive due to recent statements and PHI should rebound with Torts alone, so some less competition in the backend. Don’t see the Wings finishing worse than ARI, MTL, SEA and maybe CHI if they fire sale here soon, but DET, BUF, ANA, CLB and SJ could all finish in any order right after. Still decent odds (Ik… the Wings luck) and at the very least with the deeper draft, could potentially make it out with a completely acceptable alternate option.

Left out depth signings and GR signings. Could easily see a trade happening too, ideally a vet cap dump with the ample amount of cap space the Wings have. I considered Mrazek as a cap dump to fill the backup.

Considered that when looking at goalies. I chose not to sign Campbell and the other high end goalies as I felt they’d get the Wings a few more wins and into the not so sweet spot (territory between playoff contention and bottom of the barrel).
D is just really hard to improve this year without trading, especially LHD as they are all aging vets. Opted to play youth over signing an additional guy like Zadorav or Edler. Agreed though.
Think both Larks and Bert extensions happen after free agency.

Some team is going to give him a max term contract. He’s been underpaid for most of his career and given he put up over a PPG while also still bringing the intangibles he’s known for, with DET needing to overpay further to entice him I fear we could be getting into the range where we have no business flirting with the idea.

Competitive Now and in Future
In order for the PHI trade to happen, there needs to be A) an extension in place for Bert and B) NHL/Canada need to open up Covid restrictions which should happen hopefully over summer.
Maybe unpopular opinion, these circumstances are the only reasoning I would see that trade as lopsided. DET has a need for LHD, PHI forward core digressed and if they plan to move out some cap (like JVR) Bert easily slots into the top line LW slot.

That’s fine, you can feel that way, but my opinion and many others opinions some of which have posted to your very thread think you’re wrong and that is our opinion. Agreed on the controversy aspect, didn’t consider that. Disagree that what he did was stupid. And I’m not an anti-vaxer for the record, fully vaccinated and had it way back when. If you look at the big picture how Covid was handled, I don’t blame the guy for not wanting to get vaccinated and rolling with the natural immunity. With most pro leagues and places opening up, NHL and Canada should be following suite so his lack of extension would be a better value argument than Covid.
I didn’t interpret your post that way. But get what you’re saying now (slightly altered to better fit how I should’ve interpreted it):
“And it just isn't enough in general. Cat won’t be moved unless he receives an overpayment on par with Eichs return.”
Similar to how most Wings fans felt about Bert last year and Larks (not Eichs value tho, just overpayment mentioning).

‘Bert is a red flag.’ Why b/c he stood up for his believes in a climate that was so severely mishandled and blown out of proportion? With other leagues opening up Covid restrictions, NHL should be following suite before the next season so hopefully no barriers to where he can play.
Debrincat is not going to return Eichs value but agreed he’s worth more.

From the article “Pet saw his play dip in the 2nd half of season as well as playoffs… Pet found himself as a healthy scratch on occasion in 21-22 season.”
Plenty of Wings fans and PIT fans on here and in countless other posts have mocked and agreed upon Pet for a 3rd already. Multiple in these comments already told you it’s not happening, get off your high horse. DET says no.

Pet is not getting you a 2nd. He’s worth a late 3rd at best, and with recent reports of PIT trying to shed his cap easily less. KK is not a Center and Ras is not a great Center, but with DET’s weak C depth im not trading Ras for KK. Both should be removed and not be picks altered.

Doesn’t change the fact TBL is in a cap crunch again. lucked out with the cap game Kuch injury year. Y’all are losing 1-2 notable pieces every year, still relevant for sure but nowhere near the powerhouse TBL once was. Palat gone this year. Next year looks concerning for TBL, 4 UFAs and 5 RFAs, 2 of them being notable RFAs. You’re definitely in a better scenario than some of the other teams like PIT tho.

I don’t disagree with you that C is a priority, but 5OA would be better utilized to pick any of the tier1 players (Wright, Cooley, Slaf, 2 D). Trade the D for a team with deep C prospects thereafter if need be, but you’ll also likely have plenty of the tier 2 centers to pick from at 8OA.

Jiricek won’t be there at 8, he’s in the tier1 category. I’ll comment on the trade below, but you pick Jiricek at 5 and if you really want Gauth, him at 8.
Not sure on some of the comments above related to value. JVR isn’t a true cap dump as he scored 20 goals, but his contract, age, and deterioration bring his value down. I think some of you are severely undervaluing Hronek, which seems to be a norm on here. He was drafted 53rd and is 14th in points in his draft class, only behind a few elite/franchise Dmen all of which he’s played less games than minus Fox. Definitely a defensive liability that hopefully improves with a more stable stay at home partner, but he’s worth atleast a 1st rounder (not 5oa for sure).
