Jimmy Howard
As a wings fan, I like this trade a lot. However, I feel like Holland would want higher prospect (e.g. Thomas, Kyrou, Perunovich) instead of a Blais/Walman combo. Overall, this seems like a pretty fair trade.

Detroit Red Wings signed Dylan Larkin (5 Years / $6,100,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DragonRaptorHybrid</b></div><div>"1 Witkowski" lololol I love it
They have ~$682K in cap space (after subtracting out Franzén), so that's enough for one of their $650K contracts (and Joe Hicketts, who's technically $635K against the cap). I say maybe they give Hicketts a shot at the NHL level.</div></div>
Even after subtracting out Franzen’s contract, the wings are about 150k over due to the carryover performance bonuses. It feels like there will be some roster shuffling (frk to GR for someone with a lower cap hit) or Zetterberg going on LTIR for the year.

Detroit Red Wings signed Anthony Mantha (2 Years / $3,300,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>eamon4</b></div><div>Generally agree, great AAV, only point of concern would be the two year term. The short bridge will mean Mantha will be getting a big pay day sooner when he has arbitration rights (that would be my guess as to why the price is so team friendly). Wings won't be cup contenders in these two years to take advantage of the lower price. Still definitely happy to get him signed and have money to get Larkin signed too</div></div>
I agree that a perfect scenario would be to lock him up long term as he looks like a 30+ goal scorer. However, Mantha said at the end of the year that he only wanted a bridge deal so he can try raise his value before being locked in for the long term. I think this contract is great as it keeps Mantha an RFA when done, has a very favorable cap hit, and ends when the wings will have some of the other bad contracts (e.g. Ericsson, Daley, Green) coming off the books.

Detroit Red Wings signed Andreas Athanasiou (2 Years / $3,000,000 AAV)
Hopefully the higher dollar value contract means that he will actually seen 1st or 2nd line minutes this year instead of being pushed down to play with the bottom 2 lines.

Another mediocre year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jfstompers</b></div><div>same old Kenny. all the love for the draft quickly dissipated as he spends money on a guy like vanek, with a ntc on a one year deal. Why does Kenny give everyone a ntc, its why were in this situation. I get green I even get bernier but I don't get vanek at all. id rather see rass or zadina get those minutes. Kenny doesn't understand what a rebuild is. there were a few younger forwards maybe still with upside he could have added instead of vanek. this should have been the year we let rass, zadina, svetchnikov , cholo, hicketts, hronek all play huge minutes and see what we have to go with mantha and larkin. who cares if we lose, the worst that happens is we get jack hughes. this team hasn't been good in years now and nothing about the operation has changed.</div></div>
Completely agree; I can live with the Green and Bernier signings as we can use some help on Defense and an NHL caliber goalie when Howard gets injured again. The Vanek signing is frustrating as it takes away a top 6 spot for either AA, Zadina, or Svech and a NTC along with the one year deal seems backwards as our best bet would be to deal him at the deadline. I understand Holland and Blashill wanting a competitive environment to avoid becoming an EDM or BUF but you have to have spots for the young guys to offer development.

2018-19 Season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NickH8</b></div><div>Athanasiou does not get you Hanifin. Would you trade way a young top pair defenseman for an inconsistent middle six winger?</div></div>
That's fair, I was not sure what would make the deal work. Since CAR is loaded on the blue line, I assumed they would be looking to get a young forward back. I suppose the trade could be modified to include Svech as well since CAR is most likely going to be taking Andrei with the 2nd OA pick.
