I would say yes, Bellerive was undrafted and is torching the WHL, just interested to see how it translated to the big league. I can see him being a resemblance of Zach Aston Reese. Cale Addison is probably our best prospect in my opinion. Right handed defenseman with an offensive mindset. I have seen him play in a few games, and he skates just like Morgan Reilly. Obviously don't know if he would ever get to his level, but he is really strong skater and hopefully is a good puck mover. He actually plays with Bellerive now, which is pretty cool.

100% id scratch Cullen but they probably won’t

Honestly, I think the roster may be set. They legitimately have 13 forwards (14 depending on your feelings towards Wilson), 8 defenseman, and 3 goalies that belong in the NHL. That's a tremendous position to be in while dealing with injuries, and a key factor in the success they've had so far this season.

Simon will play, the only area of debate regarding healthy scratches is between Cullen and Blueger. I would prefer to see Teddy but I think Sully gives Cullen the nod. I'm also fairly convinced that Kessel will skate on the third line due to Rutherford's previously stated preference to spread 87/71/81 throughout the lineup.

Matthews gets paid the 2nd highest AAV in the NHL and Toronto doesn't buy a single year of UFA. Good Job Dubas.

I would have given him a 1 year deal. There is not nearly enough of a sample size in the NHL for me to feel comfortable with a three year deal at that AAV.

(PIT/FLA) - Brassard, Sheahan, and multiple picks for Bjugstad, McCann
McCann adds some nice youth with some skill, although he's injury prone Nick Bjugstad seems to be fairly reliable but having a bad year. Brassard may be traded as well as Sheahan for picks. I'd give the edge to Pittsburgh.

I agree, but McCann is performing better than Brassard. Bjugstad is having a bad year, but is a fairly proven 35+ point player. Pitt got the two younger more talented players for 2 rentals that are not very good. Brassard will likely be flipped, but for what? a low 2nd at best.

How is it that Pittsburgh wins every trade. Every year they absolutely rob someone.
They got two slightly under performing, but good recent 1st rounders for an expiring contract of a guy who isn't that good and a 4th liner.

Fair deal. Pittsburgh improves. Florida will probably flip these players for some more draft picks. And they clear cap space to make some moves this offseason (Panarin maybe).

For this year the Panthers probably slightly upgrade Bjudstad and McCann. Both are younger than Brassard and Sheahan and have more term. This would make more sense if the Panthers weren’t 11 points out of the playoffs. If one or both of Brassard/Sheahan walk and the Cats don’t even make the playoffs this could end up being REAL bad.
Edit: I just saw the picks involved. Much more even deal but I’d still give the edge to the Pens.

Pens pay to add term and upside with bjugstad. Brassman was never a good fit and pens are happy to move on. At this point, he was a sunk cost.
If bjugstad can stay healthy then this is an easy win for the pens as he can fill the 3C void since bonino left for years to come.

PIT definitely won the trade. Curious what JR's going to do next year though. Jake's getting a big raise and they need to ice a team. Already not a lot of cap space. Kudos to PIT for the deal though.

(LAK / PIT) - Hagelin for Pearson
This is probably the Kings way of saying that they need more speed. Given Hagelin's status as a pending UFA, if the experiment doesn't work, they can flip him at the deadline. It's a decent plan for them, but they still didn't get enough value in this deal. While Hagelin will help out their PK, they need more goals. Hagelin is a huge downgrade from Pearson in that regard, even if Pearson hasn't gotten going yet this year.
LA is probably looking at this as Pearson isn't doing anything for them, so why not bring in someone else to help with the PK and mix things up.

(LAK / PIT) - Hagelin for Pearson
Pearson is having an awful year, but is much younger than Hagelin, overall a better player, and is on a way better contract. It's possible he gets put with Crosby and can re-find his game. Even playing with Malkin or Brassard would objectively be better than playing with Kempe and Lewis like he has been recently. Advantage Pittsburgh.
LA wanting Hagelin is a sign of them addressing their need for faster skaters, but Hagelin doesn't bring much else, top six scoring-wise. He'll probably be dealt at the deadline.

I love how I go from reading about how good Suzuki is, seen folk on some sites saying he and a 1st are an overpay for EK, to seeing people talk about how much of a bum he is and how MTL got ripped off so horribly.

(MTL / VGK) - Tatar, Suzuki, 2019 2nd for Pacioretty

Quoting: kopiino

Montreal comes out well and Vegas loses. 2 1st round picks (Veleno and Suzuki), 2 2nd round picks, and a 3rd round pick for Pacioretty is a pretty big loss when put in perspective

Also put into perspective how Vegas got Suzuki and the 2019 2nd. Columbus sent the 2017 1st (Suzuki) 2019 2nd (just traded to habs) and Clarkson to Vegas in exchange for selecting William Karlsson. Vegas did trade a lot to get Tatar (1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks). So overall perspective heres the trade:
To Vegas: Pacioretty, Karlsson, Clarkson
To Montreal: Tatar, 2017 1st (Suzuki) 2019 2nd
To Detroit: 2018 1st (#30 Valeno) , 2019 2nd, 2021 3rd
To Columbus: expansion draft considerations
Gotta say Vegas comes out well. Not overly a big loss considering how they received the assets from Columbus and how many draft picks they acquired during the expansion draft.
