That's why you need Muzzin or someone like him. He fits the Caps style of play, and allows Orlov to play 2nd pairing with Muzzin and pushes TVR down. Unless you like 20-25 minutes of TVR, hey be my guest fella.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Man, it that ever a massive overpay by Seattle for two expiring UFAs, a minor leaguer, and Seattle still finishes out of the playoffs.
Absolutely no reason for Washington to take that deal or NTC Muzzin.
Wow, that has to be the most lopsided deals for a third line winger and a second pair Dman. Cut the assets going to Arizona in half and the Leafs still decline
Way too much term for Copp and Campbell</div></div>
Lots of term for the UFAs, but that's what you gotta do these days to keep costs down. Paul in Tampa, Letang in Pittsburgh, Forsberg's AAV is low, but it was 8 years. You can shorten term, but dollars go up.
Not an overpay by Seattle at all? SDA is a 21 year old prospect, and with their botched expansion draft, they need projects. Kerfoot is worth a second and Holl is definitely worth a 3rd. Low-risk moves for guys that instantly improve the roster, and gives them flexibility at the deadline to move on from Soucy and great value there. Let's be honest, if you think Seattle is making the playoffs to begin with, I shouldn't waste time responding to you.
Crouse isn't a 3rd line winger, but he is on the Leafs because they get Copp in this scenario who can take care of 2nd line C if Tavares gets injured. Miss me with your Chychrun hate trash - dude's a stud defenseman on a smoking deal.
Someone HAS to play left side for Washington. They need to cheapen the Eller role - especially if they want to go after Kuemper.

I actually don't hate this Muzzin trade, but he won't wave for Seattle.
At that AAV, Campbell wants more term.
We'd have to add for that Schenn trade, but ACGM Vancouver fans probably want 3 firsts for Schenn.

Yeeeesh that tendy tandem would make my liver hurt.
Puljujarvi probably wouldn't be thrilled with 4RW deployment, more of a middle-6 guy. Great fit for that 2LW spot and probably comes in cheaper than Strome on AAV.
That Strome signing would suck after he inevitably underperforms in year 1.

Ducks send something else back in that trade (or retain) - Sandin worth a 1st, Kerfoot <em>might</em> be worth a 1st/2nd from <em>someone</em>, not convinced it's the Ducks.
Engvall is too good of value to ship out with Kerfoot anyways, unless they are bringing in another F.

Well - not quite.
They can buy out Mrazek for $1M against cap, and with adding Holl, they then breakeven. That being said, they can move Holl at the deadline or even flip him for assets. Almost has more value being traded from Ottawa, because the Sens don't actually care about the cap implications this year, but they will in the future.

Likely, of course. But this is a hockey trade equivalent of 4 1sts and Robertson <em>could</em> be perceived as a first, so maybe 5 1sts? I doubt it would ever happen but ACGM is for funsies right?

No, but he's also not worth a single first (unless it's 25 or later, at which point, it's a second + something else).
If for some weird reason Allvin and Dubas want to make a deal with these two players, it's Garland for Kerfoot and a 3rd? - maybe a 2nd if a 4th/5th comes back as a pick swap, but it isn't much more than that.

I think us Leafs fans have to stop proposing trades with any Vancouver players. Not only are they not great trading partners, the pundits on here are plenty happy supremely over-valuing their players that missed the playoffs last year and will challenge for 4th in the Pacific but are somehow all worth 2 1st round picks.
To be frank, I LOVE Garland. I grew up with the guy and when I was in high school, we ran in similar circles. Kerfoot is better and is more valuable, and this trade wouldn't really make any sense for either team. Toronto needs to move dollars out and keep value deals (e.g., keeping a guy like Kerfoot) and Vancouver needs... well... to not have $13M tied up into 2 30+ year old defenseman that are less valuable as players than the Leafs bottom-4 defence and to replace those dudes with value contracts (another guy like Schenn, but more skilled). And to eventually figure out a way to replace Miller (although, I am sure the fans will somehow think they get 2 1sts for him and replacing him with a guy that costs a 7th).

Yeah, for like... the season? As the Pacific is, the Canucks are 4th/5th-ish? So seriously hoping for a WC spot. Play him like last season, has another career year, only to cling to him and let him walk 'cause they can't afford to keep him (he's chasing the $).
Miller is as good as gone by the deadline, barring some insane success from the Canucks early in the season, which is possible, but you gotta get through Vegas, LA, Calgary - all teams better than Vancouver.

I would assume the Yotes want bodies for next year - they valued Ritchie for that reason and his upside-down contract is usually something small-budget teams don't take. <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cnick19</b></div><div>Yes, this is a good point. Does Arizona want young <em>players</em> though? I feel like draft picks are more valuable due to the extra year or two they have before they start burning ELC years. By then, they'll hopefully have an arena and a better fan support than drunk college kids?

Probably have to pay someone to take him. Nobody’s going to line up to take Mrazek either at about 4 mil a year, you can get someone just as good for cheap in free agency - think fleury, francouz, holtby, korpisalo or greiss. I do think Kerfoot would likely be easy to move but it would only be for a later round pick like a 3rd</div></div>
You're seriously undervaluing Kerfoot - he's worth a 2nd at least. We're talking about a versatile middle 6 guy who plays with effort every shift. As well, Mrazek is better than Greiss at this point and I might even argue better than Korpi (as much as Leafs fans love him for crushing us).

Getting Defense Help
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cnick19</b></div><div>I guess my counter argument to that is, this trade isn't that different from the Jake Muzzin trade, which I consider to be a fair deal even in hindsight. You have to overpay at the deadline, especially if its a guy that isn't on the block and especially especially if you are the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Also, I know people like Villeneuve, I just don't know much about him so he's my usual B- to B+ prospect add.</div></div>
Definitely a good point, but I'd counter with Muzzin being the better player at the time of the trade and was making less than Oleksiak is now. I would be generally OK with trading Villeneuve, but I'd wonder if we included the 3rd if we couldn't get a pick back. I feel like that particular asset is worth retention or another pick in return (e.g., we send a 2023 3rd for a 2022 4th)
Also concerned with having 4 LHD in your top 4 - seems like a scary idea.

Yeah, but a 1st (albeit late af), a Roster Player and a 3rd is probably enough for Oleksiak. Adding Villeneuve (who I consider a B+ prospect), might be a bit of an overpay. I get that SEA values him high, but it's not a player we need.

I have no idea why the Leafs would want to go after Chiarot. Montreal heavily overvalues him and their 1st is better-served to be used to acquire an upgrade on the R/H side with term. We can replace Muzzin's minutes in-house for the remainder of this season if we upgrade on Holl.
