For what Trouba brings to a team, I'd be interested in acquiring him. His contract kills his value unfortunately.

Core 2 Now NMC aint getting waved though
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ludefice</b></div><div>In my world Tavares is worth more than that if he was paid less, so they get less for him for that reason. JT can still go as a 2C, one of the best faceoff guys in the game atm and he's still putting up points. Why wouldn't you want that guy around Bedard for a low cost? Chicago has to get cap from somewhere and they could get him for little money after July 1. Really not thinking about the business or development side of this at all. I can maybe see an argument where you want to pay only a 3rd and no 6th but given Chicago's moves to insulate Bedard in the past this makes a lot of sense for Chicago.
Guy has 1 YL and you get his rights if you want him to re-up for less after.</div></div>
The two picks in the deal are '24 picks. So the trade would be before 7/1 and the Hawks would be on hook for JT's full $7.9m actual salary. That's why the Hawks don't make this deal. Thinking the Hawks are giving the Leafs $11m in cap space, paying JT his full salary and giving the Leafs picks to boot isn't realistic. I'd argue if this trade is made before the draft, the Leafs are sending their 1st rounder w/ JT for this trade to have any chance of happening.
Not that any of this matters because JT isn't waiving his NMC anyway.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ludefice</b></div><div>The team that has all the cap in the world, noone to spend it on, and paid Corey Perry $4.1 million and a pick to Tampa for it too won't take a guy like Tavares for cheap if they can? The biggest road block there is Tavares not Chicago not wanting to do something like that to have a guy like Tavares around to support Bedard.</div></div>
So in your world the Hawks give up two picks to give the Leafs $11m in cap space? Sorry, but that isn't happening. Even if JT agreed to waive for Chicago, the Hawks aren't paying anything for him.

One more year of cap dumps
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Byrr</b></div><div>Leafs aren't going to be dumping Tavares, they don't have another option at 2C.
Tavares isn't waiving his NMC to be cap dumped, it would sewer any negotiating leverage he has for his next contract the following the season.</div></div>
A quarter of the league has some form of NMC now. It doesn't necessarily make sense for Tavares to waive his NMC, but maybe he wants to play with Bedard or likes Chicago or is just done in Toronto. For the sake of these, I just assume that every player would waive their NMC, because I have no way of knowing who would and who wouldn't. As for Toronto not having a #2 center, they'd have $11 million more cap space. Steven Stamkos is from near Toronto, played better than Tavares last season, and should be a few million dollars per year cheaper. If Toronto isn't interested in Stamkos or don't think they could sign him I agree that this trade makes less sense.

Hawks obviously decline. A 1st and 4th for Lilypad? Hawks will give the Leafs that 4th for Lilypad. Hawks keep the 1st. Leafs can keep Timmins.

24-25 Ham Leafs
1st, 4th and 5th round picks is no where near close enough for Andersson. The Leafs would need to add a high level prospect or additional top two round pick. Then they would also need to compensate the Flames for the Kampf cap dump.
A more realistic trade would be:
To Toronto: Andersson
To Calgary: Cowan, 2024 1st round pick, 2027 2nd round pick, Kampf
Also Reaves is a waste of skates, so you would need to send the Hawks a 3rd round pick before they would even consider. It would actually make more sense for the Leafs to just buy him out or send him to the Marlies.

I’m pretty sure Tavares doesn’t have a set of Blackhawks PJs so I can’t see him waiving his NMC.

Hawks accept. Not sure if you can give a 2026 first because of the protections on the 2025 first, but I bet they’d take the 2026 1st if possible or 2027 1st instead of this year’s pick if you want another chip for this season.
