Kadri GONE
Colorado didn't want to go beyond 4 years for Kadri, as they reportedly only offered a max of $6.5m x4. Doubt they'd want to take him back even at $5.5m given the 7 year term, and the fact they already made moves to fix 2C with Johansen (until 2025), Ritchie (hopefully the 2C beyond 2025), and Colton as the fallback option.

the future
I always liked Wallinder as a prospect but if the Avs are moving Girard (a LHD) they ideally need either a RHD or C coming back, not a LHD.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SupremeBone</b></div><div>I'm a fan of neither team but I'd say the comparison to Hronek falls short in two key ways:
1.) Hronek is a skilled RD which was a major need for the acquiring team (TOR won't have the same kind of press for smaller, skilled D)
2.) Hronek was in the midst of his career-best season in which he was on pace for ~50pts and was handily outperforming his teammates while playing primarily with Maatta and Chiarot
Girard doesn't fulfill either criteria and has a worse of a track record of being exploited for his size & defensive shortcomings than Hronek does. As such, I'd say your expectations on the return are a tad high- even if the 1st would be a later pick. Personally, I think FLA would make a lot of sense as a landing spot for Girard despite their lack of picks.</div></div>
Hronek may not have been the best stylistic comparison. But Girard easily gets a return like this. His defensive metrics are great, he's more than just a small offensive Dman.

What assets do you think Ottawa would want?
Colorado have all their 1st round picks as well as a center prospect drafted in the 1st round this year (i.e. Calum Ritchie). That should be enough to make a competitive offer.

The center depth would be great. Also buys Ritchie some more time to develop instead of forcing him towards the 2C job by the time RyJo is an UFA.

Bottom 6 Upgrade
Seriously WHAT is this trade for Colorado?! Laughably bad
Firstly there's zero chance Colorado will retain on a contract for 3 years, not least $2.25m ($7.75m). They'd sooner pay someone a 1st to take that full contract than retain themselves.
Eller and Ruhwedel don't do anything for the Avs either. They already have their center depth sorted so Eller is of no interest.
Drouin is a bit meh but he has upside and is super cheap.

If he was on a two-way deal with less salary in the AHL then yeah he's probably agree to just sit on LTIR to collect a bigger paycheck, but he has a one way deal so that theory doesn't apply.

That said, both Foudys play a really similar style with similar limitations. I feel like a claim for Liam wouldn’t bode well for JL.</div></div>
Yeah I thought the same when I first saw the idea of the Avs claiming Liam being suggested (on Hfboards). They'd essentially be competing for the same job and as you say they're very similar. JF probably has more upside offensively and is better on the puck, especially with playmaking, but Liam might be a better fit for a 4th line energy role. Not a lot in it really.
I guess an upside for them both is that they'd both be living in or around Denver regardless of whether either gets called up to the NHL, given the proximity of the AHL team and the NHL team.

If that's what's going on the NHLPA would likely kick up a fuss. Timmins being forced not to play despite being able to do so would limit his earning capacity so why would he agree to that? If he misses too many games nobody will pay him well when his contract expires next off-season.

Actually I'd say that Joseph's value has never been LOWER... not so much because of him, but moreso because of Ottawa's cap situation. Teams know that they're in a bind and are asking for a 1st or Boucher to take on Joseph's caphit to enable Ottawa to sign Pinto.
In isolation though Joseph was probably valued higher when he was on a cheap contract where his play exceeded his contract. Now his contract isn't really a "value" contract, though it's probably not a "bad" contract either, just fair value.

Nothing wrong with adding another one. He matches the Avs identity with his excellent skating so it's possible that he could carve out a role as a 4th liner with the Avs in the Cogliano or O'Connor mould.
It's also not as if the likes of Ben Meyers, Kiviranta, et al are adding much either, so adding another depth guy who actually fits the style well wouldn't hurt.

Probably one of those dime a dozen guys who can be plugged into the 4th line and just kinda be there and give you 8-10 hard fought minutes a night. Costs nothing though, so worth a claim if y'all have a roster spot.</div></div>
Technically it doesn't cost "nothing". A team claiming him on waivers would need to pay like $50k or whatever to the team that waived him. Not a huge amount, but not nothing.
Pedanticness aside though, his ceiling is probably as a 4th line PKer at this point, but scoring 11 points in 25 games at the tail end of last season suggests he could be a Logan O'Connor type who chips in ~25 points a season.
CBJ have been reluctant to lose him in the past but seems like they didn't feel that he had made enough progress by this preseason to force them to keep him at all costs. Maybe a new start with a team that values skating highly would be beneficial.
Avs may need a replacement for Cogliano next year if Cogliano hangs em up so there's potentially a job there for him, and in the meantime they have cap flexibility due to Francouz being on LTIR so they could afford to give him some rope this year as 13F.

20-21 man rosters are risky , it’s going to bite them in the ass in the second half of the season once players start wearing down.</div></div>
It's a workable solution that leaves ~$350k of capspace with a 20 man roster, assuming Pinto takes $2.5m.
If Pinto is flexible and takes slightly less, like $2.1m, you could probably squeeze a 21 man roster too.
Obviously a 20-21 man roster isn't ideal, but that's the unfortunate reality for Ottawa.

The reason teams were demanding a 1st for Joseph was because of the timing of Ottawa looking to move him when rosters were all set across the league. When teams have more flexibility early in the off-season prices wouldn't be so outrageous.

Yeah you're probably right. It would make more sense to trade Savard at some point and extend Kovacevic. One way or another there's going to be a bit of a logjam at RHD though, but that's a good problem to have.
