Taking Big Buffs Contract
Why are the Ducks paying that much? That trade would barely even be fair if the Buff deal wasn't included. Manson is a very good defenseman who just has looked bad recently because of injuries. You're giving up him and a pick for a prospect? Ducks need a lot more.

That's largely due to team defense improving after the coaching change and goaltending improvements with Lehner, as possession numbers and goal differential factor into a player's GSVA. Tavares has long been considered a good two way player and had positive relative numbers on the Islanders in 2018. You can't doubt his ability to make his linemates better. Guys like Okposo, Stempniak, and Moulson all had career seasons with Tavares and fell off after they left the team.

Dahlin-Joker
McCabe-Montour
Pilut-RIsto
As for forwards, we either need to play MoJo as 3rd line center or acquire another short-term center so that Mitts isn't screwed like last year. Also let's put some faith in Olofsson, I think he has a great rookie season and establishes himself as a legit top 6 scorer. If he does then why are we still looking for a top 6 guy?</div></div>
For this season, who do you scratch? You still have:
Dahlin-Montour
McCabe-Risto
Pilut-Miller
Bogo
I don't think Bogo is worth a scratch, so do you trade him? Pilut is 23 so he's done his time in the AHL.
Also, totally forgot to call up Olofsson before I hit submit. Do you scratch the 2015 all star? Send down Tage?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mytduxfan</b></div><div>I know others will probably disagree, but I like it. We could use a top 4 RD, but you've also got to think about what is available. Myers could be signed for a tonne of money (I don't like), but anyone else that is good is going to cost you in a trade. Therefore, if you're giving up assets for a #4 RD, what do you in 2 years at the Seattle expansion draft? I guess with Getzlaf and Kesler having NMCs, we're probably going to be paying Seattle something to draft XX for us anyway.
We'll see. Wouldn't be against adding Risto to the roster, assuming the price was reasonable.
Exactly! So stacked we can't even get them all in.</div></div>
No need to worry about the expansion draft. Getzlaf's contract ends, so they can just expose him and resign him after, and Kesler's contract changes to a modified NMC that year so he can also be exposed.

I like the moves for the most part. I think the Kadri acquisition is a smart and feasible trade, but I don't think they'll want Russell. What else would you wanna give up?
I also don't like the Connolly signing. He had one good year, but for the most part his point totals are in the 20s. He's not that young, and those deals with term have been killer to the Oilers in the past, so I would be hesitant to sign another. Maybe look into calling up Cooper Marody. He's similar in performance to Benson.

Yeah good point. I was afraid of any repercussions of deals with term, but I slightly overpaid Pirri and Elliott (with extra cap space in case they want more) with the hopes of them taking one-year deals. Stolarz is pretty young and I think they traded for him with the hopes of him being a goalie of the future, but I guess having Elliott just gives them more flexibility since someone was dumb enough to give Koskinen a NTC.

Retool for War
You don't have to blow it up.
Cal Foote alone is worth more than Colin Miller. Foote is one of the best defensive prospects in the entire league, and Miller is so loose defensively that he can't break the top 4 in Vegas, despite his offensive numbers. I can't believe you are giving up everything else in that trade, too. You should be getting picks from Vegas, not the other way around. Cal Foote can easily make the team next year, and he'll save you money so you don't have to move out all of your supporting players. Smith-Pelly is in the minors, Lindberg, Stralman, and McQuaid are way overpaid (why would you even pay a guy $3,000,000 to be scratched?), and Fast, Erne, and Joesph should not be in the top 9 with the talent this team has.
I know the sweep was a shell-shock, but it's still a great team. Don't sign Smith-Pelly, Lindberg, Stralman, or any of the players you have scratched, cut a few hundred thousand from the Paquette and Erne contracts, sign Rutta for under $2M, and revert all your trades. If you do all that and call up one or two prospects to fill in the gaps, you only have to move out one $5-6M contract. If you're looking to gain assets, trade Gourde for picks before his contract kicks in, but otherwise you can give a team some picks to take Callahan.
It was a terrible 4 games, but it was just 4 games. This team has shown in the past that in can win a lot of playoff series with this group, so don't mess with it too much.

1) I agree that he's the better player, but I think they can leverage the fact that Matthews scores more goals and that Marner is benefiting by playing with Tavares.
2) Yeah I was debating that, but I was hesitant considering his performance this year.
3) Yes. Nylander had a terrible start but got hot down the stretch, so Dubas might be able to sell on that. Also, Waddell doesn't have the best trade history, so I think he might under-value Pesce.
4) I'm not sure about that. Young RFAs have been getting paid a lot recently, and Dubas is right in the middle of that.
5) I think Rosen is ahead of Liljegren in the depth chart, and I think the team would rather have him play top line in the AHL than be a 7th D on the Leafs. If they don't make the Pesce trade then in that case I think he makes it.

Dubas said he wanted to give this group a shot, so he didn't want to move anyone out at the deadline. He might be willing to do something after the season. I do agree that Pesce is better right now, but I think Dubas can sell him on his potential. Arizona Rebuild
Zadorov isn't that great of a defenseman (he plays on the third line), so I don't think he's worth the trade or the contract. OEL, Goligoski, and Chychrun are a pretty solid top 3, so I don't see the need to spend on a big defenseman anyway. The Rangers are also rebuilding, so they won't want to lose Lias Andersson either. The Panarin deal is also not a possibility. He has said he wants to go to a big city or a beach, and he's probably going to get $10M+, although adding a big forward free agent was a smart idea!
That being said, I think one of the bright spots on this Arizona team was how destructive their penalty kill was, and Richardson and Grabner ran the show for it. Arizona has a lot of good young pieces, and I think a Schmaltz-Keller pairing could be deadly. If your team was this close to making it last year with all the injuries, I think they have a great shot next season.

I'd rather keep Kappy and not sign Ferland. He's better and they don't need the picks, especially if they're getting the Marner haul. On the other hand, if you do want to trade Kappy, you could revert the TVR trade and move Brown for some picks instead and you might be able to squeeze Marner in if you don't sign Ferland.

I like that you're keeping it simple, but I think you could even go simpler. I would probably undo the Killer trade, because Killorn-Cirelli-Miller were a fantastic line at 5 on 5. I know you need to clear cap space, so maybe move Gourde instead? He had a pretty terrible 2nd half, and I don't know if the back half his contract will look that good. As far as rookies go, I wouldn't necessarily call everyone up. I definitely think 1 (maybe 2 if they really shine) could make it, but idk about all 3. It makes the roster seem a bit too vulnerable.

DUCKS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheJoeMan</b></div><div>All three of those trades make the Ducks worse. We don't need to get rid of Kesler so badly that we'd have to trade away a first rounder, nor would that be worth it to Vancouver to carry that cap hit for six years. And Vancouver is just going to give us Tanev and Markstrom on top of that? Yikes.
I keep seeing so many trades with Shore and/or Rowney for a low-level draft pick. Why? These two are quality, value players. I mean if we HAVE to move them, which we don't, we better get better value for them. Rowney was one of the few bright spots this season. Shore was solid too. Good PKer, provided decent offense and makes less than 3 mil.
And I wouldn't trade Terry for Fox straight up, especially without a contract, let alone with Sherwood thrown in. And who's to say he'd even sign here? He's clearly a player who wants to choose where he goes and we are never a team that these players want to sign with.</div></div>
Agree 100%. With all the new additions of rookies on ELCs, the Ducks aren't in a cap crunch and don't need to dump Kesler, especially if it will cost them that much. Devin Shore is a consistent, versatile 30 point player, and could earn a 3rd by himself at the trade deadline. Giving him up for a full season with an RFA expiry should command more than that. And lastly, DO NOT TOUCH TERRY! Especially in this case. I know Fox is a highly touted prospect, but he's never played in the NHL, whereas Terry has shown real promise and looks to be a cornerstone of the rebuild.

Offseason SIM ANA
I get that you want to accelerate the rebuild, but you can't just dump everybody. Unless you get a McDavid/Matthews type, rookies need experienced players to help ease them into the league, and not all of them may be done developing in the minors. The Ducks are already thin on defense so you can't get rid of one of their best shutdown guys in Manson, especially when there is no suitable replacement (Murphy simply does not compare). Dotchin is a good depth signing, since he has shown flashes of NHL-quality play, but I'm not sure he's 100% reliable yet, especially to play a top 4 role in place of Manson. As far as the trade values go, you need to get more in return. Yeah some of the contracts may be daunting, but they are all proven NHL players with term, so they deserve more.

Ducks 2019-2020 after Free-Agency No Trades
I'm assuming that you mean Henrique shouldn't have been signed in the first place, because you just said "No Trades" lol. Even if that's the case, I still wouldn't overpay a free agent this year. The Ducks need to rebuild and buying expensive free agents before you know what your young core looks like is a recipe for disaster. It will hurt them when everyone needs raises, and it takes away a roster spot from a young player (in this case it's Sprong). Even though Chiasson is cheaper, $3M is WAY too much money to pay a 4th line winger who only scored because he played with McDavid. Shore can easily play 3rd line center if Henrique is gone, and Isac Lundestrom needs to develop into a top 9 player, not be forced on the 4th line when the Ducks have Rowney who is more than capable. I get that you're eager to see the team improve, but when you're going through a rebuild/retool you just have to bite the bullet and be patient.

Quacked Up
I kinda like where your head is at, but I think you are a bit over-eager in a lot of these moves. Although it would be kinda nice to see the roster bolstered by veterans Benn and Leddy if the Ducks were making a run, there are enough defensive prospects in the pipeline that they should avoid acquiring expensive deals for old players who will still be taking up roster spots in a year or two. I do like Tim Heed as a cheap depth add.
As far as forwards go, I wouldn't acquire either ZAR or Johnston. Shore is a very versatile middle-6 forward, while Zach has yet to prove himself and is the same age. I do like the fact that you're adding picks, but if that's what you were going for, then I'd rather get more/better picks than bring on Zach, who isn't that young anymore. Ross might have been just a throw in piece in the Ritchie deal, but Ritchie is younger and more proven, so I'd rather hang onto him. Plus, it was a smart move to resign Grant for depth, so why not use him? Lastly, I don't think Lundestrom is ready for the NHL full time (at least not over Jones/Comtois), and I think Eaves is going to retire so no one is going to trade for him, even if its a 6th or 7th round pick.

Good point. I guess they could scramble and try to dump Gourde before his contract kicks in July 1, but it might be harder to pull off. Also, that's a good point with Kruger about playoff experience (and I guess it also applies to DSP, but I think you could find someone better for a similar price). I just personally would rather not give up a 1st for nothing in return except cap space. I think this team can make a few more runs, and that pick could be a part of some in a few years, so I'd focus on saving money to stay under the cap without having to dump Callahan. That being said, if your position is that they only have 1 or 2 more runs left, then I think this roster is a great gamble.

Oh yeah, this year is 100% a choke. No questions asked. But their past performances shouldn't contribute to that label of "chokers". They have won a lot of playoff games, and have even shown they can win under pressure, like Game 7 against Boston last year. It's not as simple as "winners win, losers lose". There's a learning curve that comes with facing adversity, and three conference finals and a President's Trophy can make a team get a bit too comfortable with the status quo. Ovi didn't get his cup until he was 32 after the Caps choked on two President's Trophy seasons. That was the Caps' wake up call, and this sweep is the Lightning's. Stamkos is 29 and doesn't show signs of slowing. They can do this, just be patient.
