Nashville Predators signed Roman Josi (8 Years / $9,059,000 AAV)
Josi is well worth the money but you cannot give 8 years at a high cap hit to past their prime players. This along with some of the sharks contracts have buyout written all over it sometime after 2024.

Happy he's back with the Sharks. If he plays on the fourth line no issues with this signing

St. Louis Blues signed Brayden Schenn (8 Years / $6,500,000 AAV)
I like Schenn and his AAV, but YOU CANNOT GIVE 8 YEARS TO A PLAYER EXITING THEIR PRIME - ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY AREN'T ELITE TOP LINE TALENT!

After the boys are back worst case scenario lineup
Your calculations are completely off. None to do. Cap space does not accrue on ltir. So when Hyman and Dermott return it is their full cap hits.

Predicted playoff roster

He's been looking really good at camp.</div></div>
Bracco was top winger in AHL last year so I'm guessing hes up quickly if he doesn't break camp with the team.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>blowing_the_zone</b></div><div>Agreed. I really like the idea of Spezza the vet paired with Goat the work in progress. I haven't been a huge fan of the Goat in the past, but I need to eat some humble pie with how hes been playing so far this year. His skating is night and day from last year. Gotta love the work that Barb does for the leafs. Now, if they could only get the Goat to play angry...
Love Trevor Moore's game and attitude. I think he turns into the natural replacement for Hyman once his contract is up. But for this year, once Hyman is back, I think a 4th line of Moore/Goat/Spezza could be really, really good.</div></div>
I agree with your second paragraph. I just think Bracco forces his way into the lineup.
For the 1st paragraph I agree 100%. Goat has been one of my nemesis players for years (Zaitzev, Hainsey and Marleau the others). But ge has looked great this preseason. If he could score I could see him forcing Spezza out. But, and I believe it's a huge huge but...a JLo sized but...it's preseason. I just can't commit to believing in him yet.

I just saw his reply with an honest question so I'll answer it: he doesn't realise that scratches cant be called out of the press box mid game. So the only time would have to play short handed would be if injury happened during warm ups. Even then, if a home game they could often have Marlies in the building so could dress quickly. Advantage of the Marlies being in the same city.

When Hyman and Dermy come back
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rinzler</b></div><div>Knowing he only has 5 points in 42 nhl games, I agree with what youre saying (it was brutal watching him give a horrible turnover to MTL last game) . Sandin would be my next choice if it wasnt him, i think hes ready to move up</div></div>
I am not so concerned about point production (other players can take care of that) than I am with exactly the second point you made about players (specifically turnovers). There are a couple other alternatives. I liked Justin Holl's play in Montreal last night. Giving him 22 minutes, I think it definitely helped his confidence. Harpur has been so-so, but I like his size. Does Harpur and Holl work as a temporary 3rd D pair? I'd obviously prefer Sandin, but I wouldn't want to rush his development, if in fact the Leafs felt he wasn't quite ready.

Based on performance so far this preseason, I am not even sure Jordan Schmaltz makes this team. He would probably clear waivers though and be sent to the AHL, which is already pretty full on the back-end.

Who plays w JT
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rinzler</b></div><div>Kapanen has a great chance to step up during the start of the season. Also could be a possibility Bracco may see some games this year. Dw Marner will be signed 100% before the start of the season.
I could see also Dubas offering/ Marner accepting a bridge deal around 3-4 years structured by backloading the contract which he can get around 12.5 to 13M Qualifying offer. I know its a dumb amount but It I feel like this is the direction RFAs are highly considering.</div></div>
In some markets the high QO makes sense but Toronto isn't one of those markets and the numbers being thrown around for Marner in this scenario are flat out ridiculous.
Werenski at 5M for 3 years is more valuable than Marner at 9-10M over the same term.
