The Red Wings have the second longest active playoff drought. Pretty mediocre

Leafs 2023 2024 Season Discussion Part 6 - Nearly Playoffs
Honestly, Mike Johnson and Kyper are right on the ball with the whole Marner thing and is correct much of its getting overblown especially here at times lul.
Once McMann and Willy come back things will stabilise. As in general the whole JT line (Knies-JT-Marner) just has not looked great 5 on 5.
When McMann was with JT and Marner I loved the look of that line heck when Keefe stacked the line with Nylander that was also good
With how good Robertson-Holmberg-Jarnkrok has been maybe you stack up the second line with Willy and Knies is placed on the 4th. As when Keefe put him on the 4th Knies had one of his best games of the season

Like if we want to nitpick there be clips of Willy in the TBL series not looking great
JT and Matthews not looking great in FLA
He aint a liability stop being silly
Guys coming back from a high ankle sprain and those take a while to fully heal
But if were being nitpicks we can say that about all the guys as we have seen fumbles from everyone at various points this and last playoffs especially from the other big 4.
Heck we dont know how Willy's gonna be once he comes back from injury . Its all ifs ands or buts

My thoughts on Game 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>Geez having Willy on the 3rd line hopefully by next game sure gives the leafs another pretty big weapon. Having one of Marner, Matthews or Nylander on the ice at any given time should really cause problems for Boston. Hopefully he is healthy by game 3</div></div>
I don't know what Nylander's injury is?
Back spasms?
But he definitely causes matchup problems.
He's been the Leafs best playoff producer over the years.

My thoughts on Game 2
Underrated game from Edmundson, very effective in his own zone. Leafs did a better job at picking their spots tonight, especially Reaves.

Big win, let's go</div></div>
Everyone top to bottom was good. Could we nitpick yes but meh we won who cares
Just tone down the temper to not give BOS easy PP's.
Liked the physicality, liked the big lines stepping up, liked everyone stepping up after that awful last min to period 1
And if they can play like that Game 3, 4, and 5 they set especially if Willy returns

Yea, they won't be back next year. They were band aid solutions. They can't move the puck, make a pass, skate back effectively. They're just not good defencemen. Washington dumped Edmundson and still made the playoffs.

Maybe ,but to blame him for that 2-1 is just to use your word nonsense.
Did he really? Making the play that caused it to be 1-0 when Toronto was pushing is made up for by a play helping a late goal to make it 4-1 with no realistic hope for a comeback?

I agree 100%. Realistically should’ve been fired after the last two playoff appearances, only reason he kept his job for this season is because “Oh wow Toronto finally made it past round 1”. How is it this man has all this talent but can never actually do anything with it come playoff time? They definitely need to go find a new coach for next season

3 offensive zone penalties by the top line says enough
Horrible officiating nothing new play through it you did against TBL
Nobody looked good that game cant really single much but the top line taking 4 penalties. Only line I got impressed with for a second was the 4th at times
Having that short of a leash on a goalie after one bad game will get us no where. What if Woll sucks then what? Sammy gets game 2 if team continues like this then Woll game 3</div></div>
If you think everyone was just bad then we watched a different game. Clearly there were issues but the Leafs out shot and out hit Boston. Moneypuck has the expected goals at 7.4 to 3.7 in favour of Toronto.
The lesson I take is that we need more of what we got from the first line. Boston was doing the same **** but since everyone does it nobody gets called. On Toronto it stands out when Domi or Bert do it cause nobody else does.
Also the two high sticks are complete flukes, wouldn't read into it.
In terms of the goalie. If it's going to be a tight checking defensive game then we need Woll. Sammy will give you the brilliant save that Woll won't but he also lets in a bunch of ****ty screenshots like 2 of the goals today that Woll rarely allows. I'd rather give up the 1 goal on a crazy play that Sammy would save and get stability that this team didn't have this game. That 2nd goal was a backbreaker. Never goes in on Woll.

Leafs 2023 2024 Season Discussion Part 6 - Nearly Playoffs
A few talking points:
1. More poor decisions from Keefe. Jarnkrok on PP1, not pulling Sammy at the start of the last PP. Again he really seems to struggle to motivate the team and get them to play the right way at the right times.
2. Horrible officiating.
3. Jarnkrok and Holmberg stand out as two guys who played really poorly. Both honestly looked completely lost and had many turnovers. Robertson is the only guy on that line who can carry the puck. They knew that and kept stepping up on him but the other two couldn't capitalize on transition chances.
3. Knies looked great but Marner as always disappeared. He seemed completely lost out there.
4. Woll should start next game. Not blaming Sammy but he didn't do enough to win the next for the next game.
Thoughts?

McMann, Robertson, Holmberg, Knies and maybe Minten can fill key roles.

0 need to move either
Kampf value is borderline capdump if they want to trade. Look what Van had to give to move Dickinson. Since we got Dewar hes been better and whether Reaves plays or someone else been happy with the second half 4th line. Jarnkrok when healthy is useful can play everywhere and we need guys like that.
Cant just be all kids in the lineup need veterans to in order to fill some roles. Otherwise other issues arise
