Like I think if you can get him to agree to a nice sign and trade where he gets his term and money but goes elsewhere and that teams okay with it cause they want him I think its a win win
As for TOR they can get more if he's coming with an extension to said team like Tkachuck
For Marner he gets a fresh start elsewhere and does not have to worry about his money lul</div></div>
If Marner decides he wants to go, he will come with an extension. Why would he waive to go somewhere and not want to sign there? The whole "1 year of Marner" B's people use to lower his value to essentially pennies on the dollar is nonsense.

Walker I feel 4 million will be fair, term will be the determining factor on where he signs.
I traded Liljegren for Hoglander, I think Liljegren time is over Toronto just like Sandin's.
His underlying numbers don't support extending and what he might get in money, and on top of that he just hasn't taken the prior steps to 1st or 2nd pair.
I was a huge Liljegren supporter and even I can see he doesn't fit anymore, smart move is hockey trade.
Robertson was traded for D man,Korzcak</div></div>
A North south style of game will benefit Liljegren. He'll be cheap and he's only 25. You literally want to pay Walker 4+ and he's never been more than a 3rd pair defenceman before his age 29 season. It's too early to give up on Liljegren, who I will add is bigger than Walker as well.

Henrique is likely too expensive for a 35 year old. Walker will get 4+ from someone and will be a highly overpaid 3rd pair guy. Just keep Liljegren. Also Gustafson won't supplant Woll.
Why is Hoglander on the team and where is Robertson?

I think Cowen could make Domi irrelevant, Bertuzzi is more of a grinder while Cowen is more of a playmaker. Having two playmakers with Matthews isn't wise.

Marner to Vancouver

Purely age was it is just as fair to compare him to Huberdeau as Tkachuk (which you compared him to) Similar to Huberdeau it's trading for a pending UFA. If he's comparable to one of them, it's Huberdeau.
Including Robertson and Liljegren, yeah Toronto would say no. But Robertson just had his first season of 20+ games in his D+5 year, which is equivalent to Raty in 2025-2026 (worth noting Raty is very old for his draft class and Robertson is very young for his so you can argue it's like next year for Raty, that would be fair) and Liljegren I do really really like is not great for Toronto to give up. But the overall idea that Marner is going to get a package this big is just something that I couldn't see happen in any world</div></div>
The NMC makes it more similar to Tkachuk, he wasn't going to get traded to a team he wasn't going to sign with. It would be the same for Marner.

Why is Liljegren and Robertson thrown into every marner trade? Larsson and Wright for Marner is a pedestrian return. Adding Liljegren and Robertson as well is just silly. Wright is not in anyway a sure thing and Larsson is already 31, we saw how great Brodie was when he hit 33. This is just a waste of Marner and the other two.

There has been some smoke in Ottawa around Tkachuk. He does strike me as a guy who'd just get fed up and want out if he felt the team was going nowhere. I have mentioned, that wouldn't be likely unless something like that happened. And if it did, Marner would come with an 8 year extension.

Batherson scored 8 5v5 goals in 22-23 & 21 in 23-24 playing top 6 minutes; Jarnkrok scored 27 in same timeframe playing less games and less minutes. no thanks to that production at $5M.
Pointless argument - we’re not going to agree; every player on the SENs is overrated by their fans; team consistently misses playoffs year after year but their players are fantastic🤷🏻.
I am confident stating (& would bet money) that Marner does not waive for Ottawa (big step down in terms of organization, team and fanbase) & I don’t see Leafs moving him in division.</div></div>
I would hope for better than Batherson but this is far and away one of the best I have seen on this site. I would want something else but this isn't terrible. I just get annoyed with the 1 year argument Its so dumb. He absolutely is going to want to sign where he waives to go. Why would he waive to be traded to a city he doesn't want to sign in? Its ridiculous. So if he gets traded it will likely come with an extension, perhaps an 8 year one, so it would be 9 seasons of Marner, not 1. And that has absolutely immense value.

I am aware, but do you think Marner would waive his NMC if he wasn't interested in signing a contract? Likely would do a sign and trade so he could get his 8th year of security. So Marner for effectively 9 years for 4 years of Tkachuk, would be the trade. A 1 for 1 is what it would be. And while I think Marner is better than Tkachuk, I would do the trade. I think it would be the better mix for TO and Marner becoming the guy may help him figure himself out a bit without constantly living in the same spotlight as Matthews and Nylander.

The 1 year thing is so misguided. He has a full NMC, if he is going to waive it, do you think he isn't going to be interested in signing there? Of course he will, he will likely give a handful of destinations that he'd be interested in going to and then trade negotiations would start. Once some acceptable packages emerged, contract negotiations will take place and the trade will happen with an extension in place. Marner isn't a rental, everyone absolutely knows thats the case but they make up every excuse to make that not reality so they can see TO get hosed.
Marner will bring back a major return. From who? I don't know but it will be several teams interested.

Its decent, not remotely insanely good. Marner for Tkachuk would be something I feel most Leaf fans would be super happy about. And Marner would likely do a tonne of good things for Ottawa, his defensive play would be a good addition. But i imagine that would only happen if both players wanted or agreed to get out of their situation.

Paying 6 million for someone to be Woll's backup that also cost us a very good RD prospect and a 1st, seems like a plan I guess. Or, just don't do that and sign from a pool of many goalies who will cost less than half that and likely be good enough in the backup role. Joshua I think will absolutely be a Matt Martin like signing, 2.5 and you'll be wondering why he's being paid more than a million. Likely a fine 4th liner but he isn't shooting 21.4 percent ever again. This is Jeannot all over again, "but he fights and scores goals" nope, he just hits and fights, that one time he scored goals was the luckiest year of his career.

If this was Panarin what would you say? Same situation, but Panarin instead of Marner. If you are wondering where I am getting at, Marner has a better PPG rate in the playoffs than Panarin. Marner does show up, I agree he can be a little fragile but this whole nonsense around him right now is so massively overblown. If he's made available everyone will be after him and he will likely pick from a few teams and they will have to offer up some hefty packages. No matter how badly people want to see the Leafs lose the trade in a landslide, the price is going to be painful for whichever team makes the trade.

Marner to Vancouver
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Warpbox</b></div><div>Mitch Marner is obviously a top 5 right wing. Probably top 3. Huberdeau was a top 3 LW when he was traded. He's closer in age to Huberdeau, he is a pending UFA similar to Huberdeau, he just produced poorly in the playoffs similar to Huberdeau. The only difference is Huberdeau produced more while Marner is better defensively. There is 0 reason he'd be Tkachuk instead of Huberdeau.
Also, let's be honest. A lot of why what Tkachuk got looked like so much was because he was this "physical beast" which GMs drool over</div></div>
Huberdeau was older by 3 years. This sort of nonsense is just bad faith discussion. You know you are looking for ways to lower his value to benefit your argument. Its transparent. I am all for trading Marner but if its going to be a losing trade, just don't do it. Hronek isn't worth moving Marner for. I see him as a good offensive defenseman but not great defensively. He isn't a shut down guy, and isn't the right partner for Rielly. I'd much rather have Timmins at his price tag for the 3rd pair and keep Marner. The rest doesn't add anything to TO in the short term. Silovs decent little run in the playoffs is cool and all but Woll was absolutely crazy good when healthy. They are going to put a lot into his training to hopefully keep him healthy and if he does, that's TO's answer in net. No need to spend big on a different young whatever potential young guy, the leafs have several options along the same lines. And as we have mentioned Raty and Hirose just doesn't do anything for TO nor does draft picks years from now.
And that doesn't even include Robertson who absolutely deserved way more ice time. He had a very high goals per minute rate. I think he was within the top 30, Keefe just didn't give him enough chances. You likely know this which is why you hope to sneak him in as a throw in when its another big win for you. Robertson is an NHLer, in the right circumstance I see a 30 goal season. Most likely not in TO, but he absolutely has modest value. He's shown a lot more than Raty or Hirose, a lot more. And Liljegren played 20 minutes for quite a bit of the season and was injured in the playoffs, hes 25 and was top 4 on a playoff team. This is a clear loss for TO. Adding Robertson and Liljegren makes is extremely bad for TO.
