Boosted by his finishing rate. He'll fall back to earth this year.

Seems to be quite a lot for a guy who plays in the bottom 6 (mostly 4th line minutes)

(STL/NYR) - Tarasenko, Mikkola for Blais, Skinner, 1st, 4th
Tarasenko is a 31 year old playing like a 36 year old. Which ever team signs him to a 1st line star contract as an Ufa will regret it, unless it's like D. Perron size.

St. Louis Blues signed Jordan Kyrou (8 Years / $8,125,000 AAV)
All these naysayers are cracking me up big time. In a couple years, the Thomas and Kyrou extensions will be the envy of the league (if they secretly aren't already :tearsofjoy ). Of course, these are probably some of the same folks who laughed at me a couple years back for arguing these two were legit 1st line talents.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Trickster</b></div><div>I recall this dude was going to be something special.
Did he regress?</div></div>
He was a 4th round pick so no one ever thought of him as a superstar. However, he was thought to be a solid middle 6 contributor at the high end. Honestly as a Blues fan the games he did play in were good, Blues are just too deep so no room for him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shylo_Moxii</b></div><div>Overall he's very great on the PK when he actually wants to play D. Offensively no really anything good, but under a mil per is something I can get behind for a couple years.</div></div>
Well, he's not like an offensive weapon, to be sure, but his transition puck movement is quite underrated and he pinches in the zone very well. So don;t expect many points, but he does help the offense run pretty decently for a defensive specialist 3D.

Bortuzzo has been good this year (as always), so this contract is a good way to keep him locked up on the Blues’ bottom pair until retirement.

Anybody who thinks this is a bad signing is just straight trippin'. An extremely underrated player, especially at this bargain bin cap hit. Honestly, I figured he would not be back because someone would give him a raise. I underestimated how much players love STL and how much Bortz loves this group. Fantastic signing, even if he only holds this level for one of the two seasons.

(BUF / STL) - Thompson, Berglund, Sobotka for O'Reilly
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>At the time, I thought it was a fair deal...and still do.
ROR wasn't doing that well in Buffalo. Buffalo got rid of his 6m contact and then gained even more cap when Berglund retired from the NHL. So Buffalo had all that cap space to do something constructive.
Unfortunately for Sabres fans, Sabres management wasted that cap on 9m X 8 years Skinner. So the intent and timing of the trade was OK for Buffalo. Obviously St Louis did really well. ROR found his second wind, and really helped the Blues win a Cup.</div></div>
This is not a fair deal for the sabres. They have... Tage Thopmson left from this deal. And a first round pick last year... don't even know who that was.
Meanwhile the blues have a Conn Smythe winner. I think I'll take the Conn Smythe winner over a couple of meh prospects.

(BUF / STL) - Thompson, Berglund, Sobotka for O'Reilly
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A_K</b></div><div>I can't stand this narrative that somehow the Blues lost this trade because of the standings. ROR is our leading scorer and hasn't done anything to question his work ethic/dedication/leadership abilities. He's not the one to blame for the Blues sucking - in fact, we've been bad for an entire calendar year at this point, long before ROR joined the team. I can't imagine where we'd be without making the trade... it wouldn't be at the top of the league, that's for sure.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A_K</b></div><div>luckily our gm was wise enough to put top 10 protection it, but yeah, with the way the Blues are playing, even losing another pick in the teens could be pretty brutal.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dahlin_On_Me</b></div><div>Reviewing this off season Boterill crushed it. And my thoughts have changed to give Buffalo the Win on this one. Goals are our most needed thing (along with a laundry list of others...lol). Just on the existing "now" players (Berglund + Sobotka = 28 goals) vs (O'Reilly 24 goals) So I think it's actually close just on this but still STL win based on money we're paying.
Now add in the future of Thompson and the draft picks. Clear Buffalo win, but not for years. Which is OK in my book.
Our defense is much better now and in the future too. (Dahlin plus this years D heavy draft)
We had the worst goaltending in the league last year. Sub 0.900 save percentage. I'd estimate a 0.920 average for 2019 with upgraded tenders and D.
We'll see how it all pans out but I give BOTS a 9 out of 10 in the off season (assuming Reinhart gets signed reasonable and long term).
Prediction: Challenging for playoff spot.</div></div>

(BUF / STL) - Thompson, Berglund, Sobotka for O'Reilly
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dahlin_On_Me</b></div><div>Not completely loving this. This is hard for me because I sort of have a hockey crush on O'Reilly. I love everything about his game. He brings a lot more than just his points. Coaches dream player.
Looks like we got some spare and decining parts. A young prospect center with potential (maybe). Not impressed with his stats. (In fairness I don't know any of these players well) The sum of all this is less than O'Reilly. Blues win by a hair in the short term.
The gamble is on the bag of magic beans that are the late 1st and 2nd rounders. If either of these players pay off the Sabres win. Only time will tell.
For now it's even-ish, I think looking back in 4 years you'll see the Sabres got the better end of this.</div></div>
Only 3 years laters, but thought I'd let you know blues DOMINATED this deal.

Way too much for a player with only 55 games under his belt. Furthermore, it takes him to UFA status, so the Wild have no leverage to keep him after this.
