(STL/NYR) - Blais, 2nd for Buchnevich
HE CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH IT
Doug Armstrong is a wizard. That is the only explanation at this point. He's absolutely fleeced at least four different teams now.
Some examples:
Ryan Reaves for Oskar Sundqvist and a 1st from the Pens
Lehtera and some picks for Brayden Schenn from the Flyers
Some uselees junk for Ryan O'Reilly from the Sabres
And now Samuel Blais and a pick for Pavel Buchnevich from the Rangers
Doug Armstrong: the GM every team dreams of.

Rangers fans reality today: "Buchnevich was traded and we get...SAMY BLAIS.".

And few teams pay their 1c more than 9 mil.</div></div>
Boston: Charlie Coyle (although I'd like to point out that this contract is going rotten very quickly)
Tampa: Yanni Gourde
New York Islanders: Jean-Gabriel Pageau
Calgary: Mikael Backlund
Carolina: Your pick between Jordan Staal or Vinny Trochek
And plenty of other teams have their 3C's within the lower bounds of that range. It is pretty typical these days man.
In terms of the 1C, most teams that aren't paying their 1C's 9+ just haven't had them come up for contract since this rule of thumb was accurate, or they weren't the 1C they are today when they signed (looks at MacKinnon)

St. Louis Blues signed Jordan Binnington (6 Years / $6,000,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kotkaniemi15</b></div><div>I am laughing my head off now.
This guy’s temper has been a detriment to the team, and has regressed ever since winning a cup, now they’re giving him a long-term contract until he’s 34.
This is the same situation with Murray, except Binnington is older. (At least Ottawa gave Murray 2 fewer years though) Terrible signing by the Blues.
Keeping him in the net in the playoffs over Allen, then trading Allen for nearly nothing, and now he’s signed for over $3 million more per year than Allen on their extensions while Jake is playing better, is a series of bad decisions by the Blues.</div></div>
Yeah Winning the Stanley Cup with Binnington was just Terrible. Allen played one good year with the Blues out of the past 4. They made the right move imo.
Id rather Binnington with this contract over Price at 10.5m lol

Price is a bit steep, but it was only two years ago where he practically carried the Blues to the playoffs and Stanley Cup. I'd say he deserved the money after his really good first season.

Is Doug Armstrong actually psychic? Seriously, the only explanation for how he can put together deals like this is that Army is capable of predicting the future.
In all seriousness, this is a win for the Note. Army making a good case for GM of the Year already.

Schenn started camp at LW on the ROR line and Thomas is centering the 2nd line with Schwartz and Hoffman. I will catch crap for this take but I wouldn’t trade Thomas for Dubois.

Solid signing. Dunn is a top 4 defenceman who selflessly took less than he could have gotten elsewhere. Maybe to stay with the Blues, maybe to make a little more room for Hoffman. Either way he’s good for 25 or more points a year and is improving his game each season.

nah I see Clifford as a Steen replacement since he probably won't play next year. Barby and Bozak should be staying

St. Louis Blues signed Marco Scandella (4 Years / $3,275,000 AAV)
My gut says that behind the scenes both Pietrangelo's agent and Armstrong are simply playing a game of chicken while biding their time. No ill will intended towards either side but at the same time they have no urgency to get this done while so much is up in the air still.
We don't even know the state of the NHL yet so really their's nothing to get overly worked up about. We need a couple dominoes to fall in order to get things to start to move faster. At that time you'll have a better idea of whether the possibility of Pietrangelo not resigning is a real threat or not.
Scandella resigning is probably something that was going to happen one way or another which leads me to believe that other moves, aside from the idea of Pietrangelo not resigning, are going to happen anyway. Looking at STL's current cap situation shouldn't be a guaranteed indicator of what happens with Pietrangelo. So while Scandella's contract changes what STL's cap looks like for next year as of now, much can change from now till when the point of signing Pietrangelo also.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Brian2016</b></div><div>I think people generally look at a players offensive numbers and vote accordingly. Blais has scored only 20 points in 83 career games. His numbers don't reflect those of a player making double league minimum. I think we need to hear from Blues' fans who've watched him play all season. Clearly, Doug Armstrong sees potential here. He's still only a second year player and has developed well since being drafted in the 6ty round. It's amazing how essential depth players are in the playoffs, too. On paper, this seems like an overpay. In reality...I'm not really qualified to answer.</div></div>
This could be the most intelligent answer of the day.

It's a good deal. Schenn can play up and down the lineup at any of the forward positions. Most importantly, he doesn't have any trade restrictions on this contract that would prevent the Blues from trading him down the line if they choose to entertain that idea. No need to worry about the later years of this contract, the idea is that they have kept the core of this team together for the next 4-5 years for continued success while other aging players contracts fall off the books. Solid.

(CAR/STL) - Faulk & 2020 5th for Edmundson, Bokk & 2021 7th
I know this forum is East coast based, but I still find it amusing to see all the people voting Carolina. Among NHL Dmen for past five seasons, Faulk is #7 in Goals, #4 in PPG, #4 in GWG. Faulk>Edmundson, he couldn't hold Faulk's jock strap. The Blues offered Eddy only $2.3M for reason, dude loves the penalty box too. Bokk is a 25th pick that is nothing but 'hope in a bottle' that statistically will not make it in the NHL. As far as raises next season to Stl D, (expecting this to be Bouw's last year) the D's budget will at the most account for 34-38% of the cap. St Louls completely improved their Stanley Cup winning blueline, adding a fourth 10+ goal scorer to the group. I'm really loving this move...
