dude. $3.3 million? that's a lot man he would have to prove close worth to KK. Poehling has definitely not proved he could land that contract and would have a lot to do to prove it.
Evans is the clear center prospect that CJ and Bergy like. Poehling kind of hasn't done anything. MTL fans got fired up after the last Bob Cole game but he doesn't even play like that, he isn't a scorer - he is another two-way center who, if you watched the last two seasons, he has taken a CLEAR step back in his development.
Don't get me wrong, I and all Habs fans would love if he turns out but he hasn't proved anything even in the AHL.

As a Habs fan, there is no better way to put it.
Easily much more ambitious and purposeful moves by Dubas this year. This could really be the difference.
BUUUUUUT if I was a Leaf fan I would still feel slightly unsatisfied, the moves made didn't make a statement defensively which I feel one big(ish - I understand the cap situation) splash for a defenceman IN ADDITION to Brodie or for a solid defensive forwards. That is just my greed speaking though.

Sounds like Byron is hard to replace and you should keep him and yes we will keep Neal and his 20 goals in 55 games which is a 28 goal pace and he was injured for a chunk of it too.
Furthermore we do not need more veterans NEAL, CHAISSON, KASSIAN, ENNIS, NUGE, RUSSELL, KLEFBOMB, LARSSON, TURRIS, ARCHIBALD. In fact your team is very young and you might need some veterans. Habs fans need to stop trying to ditch Byron off on EVERYONE.</div></div>

1. Caufield on the 1st line straight or of college may not be a great idea.
2. That is a ton of rookies to be depending on all at once. (Not saying they can't handle it just pointing it out.
3. Would rather trade one of Chiarot or Edmondson and retain one or two of Danaulþ, Lehkonen or Armia.</div></div>
your first two points were very apparent to me, which is essentially why this wouldn't happen (obviously).
Bergevin did mention recently that 2021-2022 will be a 'much younger team'. Which makes sense due to our cap situation. MTL is banking on the youth to take a huge step this year which could go right or wrong very fast. I believe it could work out! Though Bergevin should really try to keep who performs well this year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bostonbruinsgerneralmanager</b></div><div>Even as a Bruins fan, I absolutely love this team, but they should trade Drouin. He's a waste of cap space and they can live w/out him especially if they are active this offseason.</div></div>
dude. I agree. Big time.
Clearly, management loves the guy since he has had so many years of 'proving himself' but man I am done and have been done waiting for Drouin since 2018.
Great, he gets 50 pts - MTL has had literally only 50 pt players most of my life. So we traded our LHD prospect who would have boosted the team to a new level (especially then, our defense was ****) for another depth forward. Great; sounds about Habs!
There is a distinct fear in MTL management when it comes to stars. Whether their 'star' quality expires, the star doesn't want to sign in Quebec, or management will not urge the GM to go guns-blazing for an elite forward. So when my team DOES go for a forward in some manner, I and other fans get EXCITED. Then he turns out to be a pass-first opportunity forward who consistently shows amazing potential but does not produce. Kovalchuk said that Drouin is the most talented Hab, which to me sounds ridiculous - Ilya must've been watching practice Drouin and not in-game Drouin.
Drouin needs to be traded. MTL is stuck waiting for this guy to prove his worth because to me, he is a weaker Alex Galchenyuk.
THIS YEAR BETTER be the deciding factor for the guy. Great playoff bubble play, though (Suzuki's amazing performance made him look better than he is).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Copenhagen</b></div><div>Another thing is obviously Oilers do not have probles scoring goals, McDavid is great with Nuge who is 100 times the better player than Byron. The problem with the Oilers is their defensive play. You should really watch them sometime so you can see for yourself.</div></div>
Well, you should probably actually take a look at Byron cause you kinda just contradicted yourself.
Realistically, it is apparent that Byron's $3.4mil AAV is ugly as hell and that along with the fact Byron has played 85 games in two seasons. There is a good chance MTL will keep Byron until his contract expires due to those huge factors. (Like you said)
Though you say that EDM does not need offensive help but rather defensive which is kind of exactly what Byron brings to the table. You did point out the most logical reasons as to why a team wouldn't want Byron, but you can't say "he problem with the Oilers is their defensive play." then go ahead and say "Byron is brutal, I wouldnt even trade Neal for him." that is just delusional, and if you truly believe that you definitely have not seen Byron perform.
Byron is considered one of the best waiver claims in a long time. When he is healthy (which is rare) he is a counter-attack machine: extremely, VERY fast skater: changes direction and momentum better than a lot of the forward group in MTL (which is a clearly very fast team). Specifically, Byron is amazing defensively; loves to bring the puck out of the d-zone and create breakouts, most of his goals scored his entire MTL career consisted of short-handed breakaways and fast breakout play.
Byron would be extremely worthy in EDM, clearly more then you think. EDM is packed full of one dimensional offensive talent. There is a gigantic lack of two-way play in EDM, that really isn't that hard to acknowledge. Byron would add a two-way and veteran/NHL readiness to an offensive core that has speed on the wing, who blocks shots, and who can score the odd shorty here and there.

Even as a Habs fan I can admit that Toronto has been a good regular season team for awhile now. The only knock against Toronto is Vancouver/Montreal/Calgary all have great goalie tandems which is gonna be key for a shortened and condensed season. Rumours are saying that there will be a lot of 3 games in 4 nights happening this season so having that backup that can play and eat minutes and wins is very important. I don't know if Campbell and Dell will do it for the Leafs but you never know.
I'm not sold on the defensive changes Toronto made this off-season. Plus their offense gets slower. Thorton and Spezza are not wheelers and neither is Simmonds. Toronto is a fast paced dynamic team, they should of kept to the theme.</div></div>
Fair. If I was Dubas, I definitely wouldn't have made the moves he did. He could've done much better.

Was thinking the same thing.
I think Duclair could easily land in MTL only if Bergevin decides to try and move Weal, Kulak, Mete, or unfortunately, Armia or Lehkonen. Their cap would need to be taken elsewhere in order for this to happen, which leads me to believe Duclair could sign long term in MTL.
Duclair follows a similar storyline to players the Habs love to bring in. Fast, unproven forward with high risk and reward (kinda like Domi). With the state of COVID and how free agents have been signed, unless he is willing to take a contract he doesn't want, we could see him have no team by the seasons start.
Players in his position should take the discount contract and prove it ONE MORE TIME. Putting up 40 points on that Ottawa team is quite impressive, but not enough to prove anything to GM's.
I say clear cap and find a way to sign him on another 'prove it' deal, or sign him long term on a low AAV (under 3mil). If he doesn't take that, give up on him.

Montreal has NO STAR players up front. They have 1 all star upfront and THATS IT. when’s the last time u saw a team reply on one good line and 2 AVERAGE lines to even be considered a contender ???? Weber is so washed and Petry can’t play defense in his own end. Price is the most overrated player in the league and hasn’t been good since 2017. Let’s just get this straight, Leafs are an elite team, Habs are an average team. Leafs are better then the Habs at Offense, Defense and u guys are better at goalie. Even the Sabres are in a much better position that the Habs. U know why? Because they have actual star players on their team. Tatar Gallagher are not STAR players lmaoo. They are very good players but certainly not star players. Nylander our fourth best forward would be the best forward on the Habs. And leafs went thru a coaching change and rebuilt their whole offence last year and still
Finished 3rd in the Atlantic. They were 28-15-5 under Keefe. They sure as hell will be competing for that #1 spot in the Atlantic next year while the Habs will be fighting for the lives to even make the playoffs. And u said Bergevin solved ur problems? He traded a 70 POINT GUY For a guy who had 4 points in 26 games and over paid so much for his contract LMAO.</div></div>
Man, you really don't do your research.
First of all: Anderson was INJURED last year, that's why he 4 points in 26 games. The fact you fail to acknowledge that displays your clear ignorance of facts. Domi put up 70 points in 2019, last season he put up 44 points. A clear regression. Another fact you fail to acknowledge because you know you're wrong.
Second of all: Weber was voted the hardest defenseman to get around BY NHL PLAYERS AROUND THE LEAGUE. Price was voted the hardest goalie to beat by 41.55% of NHL players around the league. So, the 'weber is washed and price is overrated' narrative is so delusional it has only certified my suspicions behind your logic behind your incoherent irrational hockey takes.
<a href="https://www.nhl.com/canadiens/news/carey-price-shea-weber-atop-nhlpa-player-poll/c-296720528" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://www.nhl.com/canadiens/news/carey-price-shea-weber-atop-nhlpa-player-poll/c-296720528</a>
<a href="https://www.nhlpa.com/player-poll/2019-20" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://www.nhlpa.com/player-poll/2019-20</a>
Lastly: "when’s the last time u saw a team reply on one good line and 2 AVERAGE lines to even be considered a contender ????" WOW! You've truly proved you really don't follow hockey!
1. 1979-80 Islanders: terrible team on paper and to your point, collected an unlikely star in Butch Goring.
2. '91 Penguins: Lemieux and Jagr were LITERALLY all they had. They carried.
3. 2011 Bruins: they didn't have a player over 65 points....
maybe actually quantify your delusional arguments with some facts or history and you won't sound like the irrational leafs homer logic.
One point you clearly missed: STARS DO NOT EQUAL SUCCESS. YOUR TEAM HAS 3 ELITE SUPERSTARS AND YOU CANNOT MAKE IT PAST THE FIRST ROUND. YOUR STARS ARE CLEARLY NOT HELPING WHAT DO LEAF FANS NOT GET ABOUT THIS: FINISHING HIGH IN THE STANDINGS MEANS NOTHING WHEN YOUR TEAM CONSISTENTLY LOSES IN THE FIRST ROUND.
This season will exemplify what LITERALLY, and I mean LITERALLY, EVERY OTHER HOCKEY FAN has been saying about this leaf team. You're too top-heavy. You destroyed your chances at a balanced and sound team once you spent $40 million on four players.
So, again, have fun watching other teams compete past the second round! Enjoy watching your Ontario rivals in OTT eclipse the Leafs.

Yep! You're right - Suzuki will not be like Marner and Matthews due to their rookie performances.
BTW, how have these 'studs' helped the leafs? Haven't really got past the second round since 2013...
See, sure the Habs have had a hard time for the last 4 years... 4 years of a rebuild that put us into the playoffs at the end of the 4th year, to actually BEATING OUT the first matchup (unlike the leafs... like the have not since 2004). Leaf fans love to throw around '.500' stat like you didn't watch every other team BUT YOUR OWN compete in the playoffs for literally 13 years.
The Habs were a losing team these last few seasons, the leafs have been a LOSING FRANCHISE since 1967. Please, do not talk about team performance. When you tank for 5 years, you're eventually gonna wind up getting a Marner and a Matthews. Congratulations: you sucked so bad the league had to give you 2 stars to bring your franchise back to life, and it took over a DECADE. AAAAAAAnd you still haven't made it past the 1st round.

Notice how it isn't just like, ALL on five players? Kinda like how it ALL depends on whether Tavares, Marner, Matthews, Nylander, and Reilly perform to win a game? Yeah... that's kinda the opposite of depth.
Every defender in the current leafs system CLEARLY is not a competent defender (DEFENDER: not offensive-defenseman, such as Sandin). Kinda like how every defender in the habs system that isn't named Chariot, Weber, or Petry was not a competent defender... So, Bergevin got guys who are better at defending.
Dubas needs defensive help clearly on the blue line along within the forward group. So you picked up a Flames defender (one of the worst defensive teams in the league, especially the playoffs) to play RD... whose Left-handed. Then proceeded to add two Jason Spezza 2.0's in Bogosian and Simmonds, both declining pretty much AHL-calibre veterans who don't exactly carry the tank that a 'fast and explosive offensive team' needs to be a threat.
The Leafs holes are still gaping and the forward depth issue is not solved. AT LEAST every fan in the league can admit Bergevin addressed the clear and obvious problems on the team.

"Relying" on their performance? Their seasonal performance spoke for itself. Any rational hockey fan can see the bigger picture of a player development - Suzuki and KK are players you trust in.
