This is the play

Shaw/Suter drops to the 4th line, Saad drops to the 3rd line, Nylander into the top-6.
Long term, Saad is let go after this season no matter what; Nylander would fill that spot moving forward (if he impresses).

TOR Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>Why does CHI want Freddie? He stunk last year and will cost more than Crow. And our defense got worse.</div></div>
Dermott is <em>statistically</em> better than Murphy. It's likely a bi-product from playing on a more successful TOR team, but I like his improved footspeed over Murphy. I think Freddy is a decent goaltender and has been overworked in TOR; I'd like to see Lankinen or Delia work in an NHL tandem this season.
If it doesn't work out, Freddy can always be a deadline trade piece similar to Lehner.

how much pressure could we put on Chi with a offer sheet
Not a whole lot. CHI has multiple pieces with value that could be moved to make space. Worst case scenario would probably be CHI not signing Crawford and go with Delia/Lankinen in goal.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Flames decline, Strome is bot a good fit for Calgary and we dont want to move Hanifin</div></div>
I've seen a few CGY fans saying they're willing to move Hanifin, but I don't think they'd want to either. Where would Strome fit in CGY's lineup? I only see it happening if they trade Monahan.

I wouldn't call Nylander filler, he's 22 with a middle-six toolset. Maatta would give DET a reliable partner to someone like Seider or Lindström.

A lot to give up for a rental 3C, but I like the other moves. I don't think CGY makes the Hanifin trade, even though the value is close.

Could Seabrook do it
I'm not trying to be pessimistic, but I only see him being slower. When an athlete has more than a year off, chances are they've permanently lost a step (especially with the specific surgeries he's had). Best case scenario is that his healed injuries cancel out the lack of playing time and you end up with the same Seabrook.

I don't think those goalie prospects are big enough upgrades (if at all) over Lankinen, Nalimov, or Delia for CHI to be interested. The NYI 1st + prospect is a good basis though.

Nah, he won't go on LTIR, nor will CHI buy him out. I just needed the roster space on this ACGM to make moves.

I said LD, not RD. Have you watched Kalynuk and followed his progress at Wisconsin? He's essentially a left-sided Mitchell. Almost head and shoulders above Beaudin.

Kalynuk should be top of the LD list, and Teply above Kurashev.

Wouldn't mind Hextall as GM, given the place the Flyers are now.
I'd try to find someone other than Regula to add as a prospect to VGK for Tuch. Regula is one of the few defensive prospects we have with both size and top-four upside; with Kalynuk arriving, I wouldn't mind using Beaudin in that trade to bring the pick down to a 3rd.

Goodbye John Chayka
Am I wrong in thinking that he's not necessarily leaving the NHL? Friedman just said he wasn't pursuing a "lateral move." CHI is looking for a President (potentially Hockey Ops), and that would be a positional upgrade from GM.

What does Pius Suter mean for Strome
In regards to the title, nothing. Suter is likely to play on the wings, but can fill as a makeshift center. If Strome were to be traded, it's more because of Dach and a supply of up-and-coming centers in Rockford (Barratt, Kurashev).
EDIT: I'd say if Suter implicates anyone, it's Saad. Suter's conservative projection is a top-nine forward, but I'd wager him turning into a top-six forward. Suter has all the tools (and potentially more) to replace Saad long term, and the fact that their contracts expire the same year should be noted as well.

Not saying Flames shouldn't take this deal though</div></div>
I wouldn't be opposed to Pelletier as an alternative, but Pettersen is my preference. CHI is likely to be extremely familiar with his game while watching Mitchell at Denver.

I would as well; wanted to try a different target. Realistically, I feel these young goalie tandems in PIT and NYR are going to follow CBJ's lead and keep a tandem as long as possible. I have a sinking feeling we're going to sign Holtby.

It was like that (high-danger chances against) in NYR during the early half the season before they got their defense under wraps, so it wouldn't be new to him. I figured Georgiev would be better than any 2nd round goaltender that CHI would go after in the draft.

Thread:
A Different Approach
1. I feel CHI needs to see what both Delia and Lankinen can do at the NHL level with a decent amount of starts between those two prospects. A goaltender used to tandems like Khudobin or even Markstrom (if he's willing to move on from Vancouver) would be my signing. I'm still, however, in favor of re-signing Crawford because he had experience being part of a tandem this past season with Lehner.
2. Keith has already started to descend his age curve, so I've been a fan of acquiring Brodin to replace him as the No. 1 defenseman. That acquisition would be dependent on Keith being subsequently traded or relegated to lesser minutes, which I don't see CHI having the balls to do that.
Despite his footspeed, I don't mind keeping Strome either; if I'm Bowman, I'd try signing him to a cheaper bridge with term and line up his contract expiration with Toews'. It'd be tumultuous having him and DeBrincat expire the same year, but it's a side-effect worth having to make sure you prioritize the younger players over veterans like Toews, Kane, Keith, etc.
3. I agree with Strome having room to grow. Strome's analytics have always been pretty nice considering some of the worries fans express about him. This past season pissed me off when Colliton started him out on the wing; Strome has to be in the center role to succeed and grow as a player.
4. I would keep Koekkoek 110% over Seeler. He's better in just about every manner, especially in an analytical sense. Mitchell is going to be extremely effective for CHI next season in whatever capacity, and Koekkoek isn't going to weigh him down like Seeler would.
On a side note, I saw that Seabrook is aiming to return for the play-in round against EDM; it's pretty evident he's not going to want to sit on LTIR for the duration of his contract. If I were the GM, I would just bite the bullet and buy him out. We're going to have a lot of ELC players on the back-end in the coming years, and I feel we would be able to eat it without having to throw away a 1st round pick+. CHI could bridge Dach and Boqvist out of the terrible third and fourth years of the buyout and skate into the low-impact years (2024 and on is a negligible $780k).

CDH vs Maatta
I'd think Maatta is the most likely to get moved, unless a team specifically wants CDH. Maatta is cheaper (though not by much) and has a much friendlier buyout clause that will interest teams the most.
I'd also be inclined to keep CDH despite having a lower GAR than Maatta, mainly because
1.) He's better at relieving pressure in both zones (cc @ShutdownLine)
2.) CDH plays more aggressively than Maatta, which is something CHI needs more of on the backend
