Keep Kane as far away from this team as possible. He is trash. Helped bury a sexual assault, and is a sexual abuser himself.

That effectively strips the AHL club, and with the Horvat trade, leaves us with only 2 picks in the first two rounds out of the next three drafts...... for a guy who is going to be a second pair defenseman?</div></div>
Mayfield is an expiring contract that we probably aren’t planning on resigning, and the trade gets us a 1st Round pick that isn’t our own to spend on a younger and signi better defenseman to pair with Dobson, which probably becomes our top pair. Moving Bailey’s contract is going to cost a 2nd no matter what, if not more. Moving Buldoc and Ishakov isn’t a huge deal because Bolduc won’t have a place in the line up with Pelech/Chychrun/Romanov, and the organization seems hesitant to give Ishakov a shot at the NHL because of his size. The second 2nd is a few years out, and is there to make sure we get the trade done. It’s really not an insane set of trades.

By all means. I generally want to keep Mayfied, but as mentioned, I am working off of reports that Boston is very interested in acquiring Mayfield, as opposed to them being interested in acquiring Chychrun.

Why would the Isles ever tie themselves to Matt Murray and his $4.8m contract? That would take far more than a late first rounder.

Raty? Sweet name, but please tell me more about your expertise in evaluating the Finnish league. Until then, lets wait for him to register a point in North America before declaring him anything.

Räty literally had the series winning goal for the Bridgeport Islanders in the sweep of your squad’s AHL affiliate. All signs are that he is tracking to being a legit NHLer, and that the last year’s gal off was heavily based on his former Liiga team (Karpat’s) mismanagement of him, something that his own former coach actively mentioned when that team was eliminated from their playoff run.

Who said anything about me realizing these players aren’t good? They trounced your team last year, and multiple times this year. Beavillier is an elite level forechecker, Wahlstrom is going to become a 30 goal scorer, and Räty is going to be the steal of the 2021 draft.

Same with Wahlström, I believe he’s going to take huge steps next season with a coach that doesn’t hate him and throw him under the bus to the media every chance he gets and play him 6 minutes a night with grinders and no pp-time + he’s still got potential to be a 30-35 goal scorer with excellent all-around play. Aatu Räty’s ceiling is definitely a very good 2nd center or better. - and the 13th overall pick will likely fetch a future top-6 player i.e. Brad Lambert or a Jonathan Lekkerimäki, Danila Yurov etcetera. Paštrnák is one of the best wingers in the NHL for sure, but not worth it imo.</div></div>
Oh, I’m personally all about Kevin Fiala, and I’m not even someone who thinks we should be trying to get Chyckryn at this point, as I would probably go with Oliver Kylington instead as I did here. I only put this roster together to see what the cap implications would be, and had to publish it to share it with some buddies for their thoughts.

The only reason why I went with OTT here rather than ARI is because your own GM publicly said that he wants to bring in veteran leadership this summer, and Bailey is one of the best low key locker room guys in the league, and very much has the kind of low actual dollar salary contract that your organization likes.

My guy, calm down. Your own GM specifically said he is actively looking for veteran players in the mold of someone like Josh Bailey, he would immediately be tied for 4th in points on your team in a down year for him, and his actual real dollar salary is only 60% of his cap hit with only two years left on his deal. It’s not terribly unreasonable that 1) OTT would be interested in him 2) that he’d fetch a late second in return.

They've put a lot of years into developing him and I doubt they'd give him away in his final RFA years.</div></div>
I agree that they probably don’t want to lose him, but I just don’t see how they will have money for him, and absolutely believe that he is their 4th priority among their free agents, and I think they will run out of money between at least $22m in contracts for Gaudrea/Thatchuk and another $5m for Mangiapane.

I don’t fundamentally disagree as a general manner, and would have chosen many players as options. I probably should have been clearer that I viewed this roster as the biggest possible plays that Lou could make if he wanted to take massive swings because he thought his job was on the line.

TOUGH LOSS ALL IN UNREALISTICALLY
John Tavares will never ever, ever ever, ever eve, ever ever, ever ever allow Toronto trade him under this contract.
It’s not even that he has too much self-respect for himself, it’s that he fundamentally has some self-respect for himself. He burned whatever legacy he had to go to Toronto, and so now the entirety of his career and name are tied to what happens in Toronto before the end of this contract.

Now you are just massively overvaluing a player that the Senators themselves appear to be already willing to move on from. Wahlstrom was the equivalent of a 22 goal scorer this year, playing on average 12 minutes a night. I wouldn’t be surprised if he hits 30 goals this year with a full season and significant power play time.

Lunch thoughts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensibleguy</b></div><div>Not even close for Ottawa</div></div>
I would be willing to increase the value going back the other way, say by adding a Bolduc.
The notion that the Isles have completely tanked Bellows value though, I think is completely overblown. Has it dropped? Sure, but the team has arguably the second best team the last two years, is a team run by two of the most conservative coach/gm in the league when it comes to rookies, and is a defense above literally everything team.
This was also based on a recent article out of Ottawa that the Sens are looking for a Forward, and would be looking to offer Brannstrom, a player with a negligible number of additional NHL games over Bellows. Also, let’s not kid ourselves, Bellows would be a roster player already on basically half the teams in the league. He has a great shot, but he is figuring for a roster spot on a very deep roster, and with a coach/GM that have extremely short leashes for Rookies. Put him on an offense focused roster, and the points will come.
