Brady is likely sitting out the beginning of the season holding out for more money. He was supposedly offered 8 x 8 and still has not signed and his dad and brother are getting involved with the negotiations. For me this is worse than KK leaving via a ridiculous OS, Brady clearly puts himself before the team, 8 x 8 is an overpayment yet he still wants more money.</div></div>
You do have a good point there! Nobody will argue Brady isn't bringing more to his team than KK right now but would you rather have Brady and a Kole Sherwood or Tyler Toffoli and Mike Hoffman for roughly the same cap hit? They aren't bringing the same skillset to the table, it's just to show how much money Brady's looking to get.
OP:
If we keep playing the "If" game then it's pretty sure that Toffoli isn't with us as Berge would've went to FA with a top 6 center as his mindset, not scoring wingers. That year was pretty bad with pretty much only Craig Smith and Granlund being middle six options so a trade would've been much more likely (Year prior was the Duchene year and he didn't want to join us so..).

As much as i love Zegras being reunited with Caufield , MTL pass's
That's our top 2 LD prospects and only shot at a #1 LD.
Norlinder -i like but he's a #3-4 guys in his prime like Subban at best
Struble's- like Erik Gudbranson type #4-5 D with size who plays a stay at home game but has a big shot
Harris- is mobile D similar to Gostisbhere in his game but i doubt he makes it past 2nd pair in his prime
Trudeau- is a long shot Nick Leddy type D or atleast the potential to be. He thrives in the same areas but not at the same levels yet but is consistently defying the odds
There's just no world we can give up Sergachev (2 cups by 22) Romanov and Ghule without Molson Breweries being Boycotted again like after they traded Roy

Yeah, but what you're suggesting is that he walk away from $36.9ish mill over 5 years(this is pending he only gets the 10% raise for being qualified year after year) to make $25.5m on a longer term.. To be honest, I don't think Dundon and Waddell thought this one through, they saw a chance to get revenge and jumped at it... They should've at least signed him to a 3/4 year deal at that ridiculous cap hit, not just 1.. Bergervan would be dumb to match it, he can use those assets and trade for a more consistent better C to play behind Suzuki going forward...

Sabres would accept this deal no doubt. Don’t think Habs do it tbh. Thats 2x 3rd overalls, 16th overall, 25th overall plus 2x 1st rounders including the one next year when the draft is in MTL.
Jack Eichel is not worth 6 first rounders. Period.

If Danault walks
Perreault would sign at 50% of that price. I'd like him.
Wennberg played with Huberdeau and had a way too high shooting percentage, so we gotta be careful not to overpay him for a lucky season. I would not sign him for that. I'd look at Bonino 3m x2
Look at LW UFAs instead of Buch
Dont burn 1st for Byron, we have cap space and he's a nice player to have in a roster
LAK has traded for Ardvisson, Drouin would go else where (like SEA)
Drieger would want to be in a 1A-1B system : he's not signing to backup Price
One of Savard or Cole (same role). Get a D that can play on a PP instead : we only have Petry and maybeee Romanov (im not sold). If it's Cole, -1m.

Habs 21-22
Wouldn't it make more sense for Seattle to take Chris Driedger than Jake Allen? Assuming so, if you're the Habs, why not dangle a draft pick or two to make it easier for them to take Kulak or Byron, both of whom would be useful additions to the startup Kraken.
Unless you're giving Danault 8 years, you're likely under on his AAV. Given how useful he was, you'll likely need a little more cash and a NTC to keep Perry. That's OK because you're likely over on Merrill, Armia and Poehling by cumulatively the same amount.

Retribution? No. The league needs to take care of this an issue a precedent setting suspension.
Paul Byron got three games for charging from 10-15 feet away. This hit was 10 times worse.

If you take Kadri vs. Scheifele out of it, imo, this play is worse than any of the Kadri suspensions.
1) Scheifele knows exactly how fast he’s skating (imagine what Josh Anderson could do to opposing players with his size and speed if he played that way).
2) Scheifele knows that Evans is 100% vulnerable, and completely unable to defend himself.
3) This is in no way a hockey play. He in no way makes a play on the puck or the stick when he arrives at Evans.
4) Scheifele does absolutely nothing to let up, he makes impact full on at basically his maximum speed.
5) This is a textbook example of charging, rule 42.1, which brings supplemental discipline into the equation.
6) Evans is injured on the play.
It’s binary, if the NHL wants to continue to see this play in the game, it will give Scheifele 2-4 games.
If the NHL wants to eradicate this play from the game, Scheifele will be gone for this series minimum.
Sidenote, respect to Nick Ehlers. He just went up multiple notches in my book. Scheifele’s only chance at redemption is full mea culpa, no excuses like the b.s. his apologists have been spewing since. I want to see him crying on the podium exhibiting full remorse. None of this « it wasn’t my intent » b.s. he was trying to hit him as hard as he could. If he didn’t think he was going to injure Evans hitting him at maximum speed when he’s vulnerable like that, then he’s not the human being I previously thought him to be.
He was angry. He snapped. Now he needs to own what he did and make ammends. He’s not coming back in this series, or the league is going to lose a ton of fans. The NFL figured it out. The world has changed, and some hits simply need to be eradicated from out sports.
This is a precedent setting suspension. And the choice for the league is binary whether we’re moving forwards or backwards.

I generally don't encourage using this group as a forum, but I am still shaking with rage over last night. What a cowardly hit by Scheifele. I don't care that his teammates say it was out of character for him. He's a 28-year-old man who went headhunting. The league needs to take a stand for once.
On the plus side, Nik Ehlers sure showed the world what a class act he is by moving to protect Evans from the scrum. I have always liked his skill. Now, I like the man.

Habs 21-22
Why don't we just gut our entire future and become the next Sabres? Sure we get Eichel but then we stink for the 6 years before Eichel decides it is time to move on from Montreal as well but his value will be much lower by then so we only get like a 1st + 2 nds back. Yup this is great asset management and definitely how you build a FUTURE contender! Also how do we exactly fit his 10 Mil contract and resign Zuke and Romanov next season? Oh right we can't, so there goes even more of our future! GREAT PLAN!!!
No instead Montreal keeps our players and offer Byron, Chiarot and Edmundson for Eichel and a 1st just to be equally ridiculous!

Welcome to the fold Seattle
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wreckless</b></div><div>« We’ll see you in court. »</div></div>
Cool story bro!
But, the reality is this. Seattle cannot terminate a contract of any player taken in the expansion draft - mutual or not. It is an NHL rule for expansion. A player that is drafted in expansion must be on the team for at least a year. Furthermore, if Weber retires/terminated within the next two seasons, the recapture penalty will fall on both Nashville and the team owning his rights at the time. The only instance where the recapture penalty is solely on Nashville is after the 2022-23 season is completed.
Please refer to the following site for explanation/calculation of recapture penalty on Weber:
https://www.prohockeyrumors.com/2018/07/the-salary-cap-implications-of-a-shea-weber-early-retirement.html#:~:text=To%20combat%20teams%20continuing%20to%20front-load%20contracts%2C%20the,negating%20the%20years%20that%20lowered%20his%20cap%20hit.
And this is the link explaining the no buy out rule for expansion draft picks:

Montreal is not paying to trade a player other teams would pay for. Would the Blues pay to get rid of Sanford because they need cap space? No, that is because it is a ridiculous notion to pay to move a player that has value elsewhere. Montreal would do Poehling for Dunn straight up (not that I am suggesting that would be fair value, you just said that the deal was Poehling for Dunn) and move Lehkonen in a separate trade before paying to move him.
