<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Coachchippy</b></div><div>Sadly I disagree about Panarin. He's aging, and since this team is for 2024-25 he would be pushing 35. Retaining salary is the only way to get another team to take on his albatross contract. Literally no one would want him (or those that would, wouldn't be able to because of cap) without doing that. You also probably need to add the first to sweeten the deal, and it still isn't going to land you someone like Draisaitl. Mittelstadt is 7 yrs younger than Panarin, was a top ten pick, and is good for putting up 60+ points per season. Not a bad return at all imo

Fair enough about Goodrow. I figured to package him up with Lindgren because Lindgren, while great, plays a style that ages extremely poorly. Like Dan Girardi. You can pay Middleton under 2.5 mil on a short term and he would be serviceable. Lindgren would likely ask for more money and a much longer term and it just doesn't fit with our needs imo.

I don't see what's wrong with signing Marner for more than 10 million, assuming that he would want to extend in NY. We are paying Panarin more than that to put up less points, plus Marner is defensively responsible (in fact Selke caliber) unlike Panarin. And again, Marner is significantly younger than Panarin. So if we are just talking extremely expensive wingers, Marner is an upgrade in every sense.

Trocheck honestly should have never been signed. We did Chytil dirty with that acquisition because he is going to be the real 2C probably even this upcoming year. Therefore, we don't need to be paying that much for a 3C (Trocheck). Newhook is serviceable and like half the price of Trocheck so I don't really get how it's that bad of a trade. It would be bad if we were playing him in the top six but we are burying him on the third/fourth line</div></div>

Just from a Habs perspective; even before what you just wrote above, the Habs are not doing this!
It'll cost you Laf if you want Newhook and the Habs may add a piece; It'll also cost you to get rid of Trocheck, Gallagher is offered as part of the return.
