i don’t hate this but what about Barzal next year. Islanders have one too many big contracts that are almost immovable, and he’s going to demand big money. Bailey cap dump works but you might need to throw in a compensation pick to get rid of him.

TRIGGER WARNING
i like what the samsonov for kubalik move, but what about wilson when he comes back? move him to the first, mantha second and oshie third? and for as good as Kuemper was in the regular season, that defense is going to struggle a ton, leaving Kuemper to deal with a lot of high quality scoring chances against.

it’s definitely an expensive price. next years draft is loaded so giving up that 2023 first hurts no matter where the devils finish. holtz is going to be a monster too, but if NJ wants to pry that impact player out of CHI, it’ll need to be a highly touted prospect they want in return

yeah it didn’t have to be WPG it can be anywhere. they were the first team that came to mind that felt like a potential fit

it’s definitely a risk considering his injuries and downhill slump. he’s got the talent and potential, but just needs a competent defense and to stay healthy

only reason i made it so expensive is because the hawks just declined a trade with 2 firsts and a prospect from a team

M Tkachuk to CAR Scenario
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Storm3456</b></div><div>Going from 8 million to 9 million is a huge jump. Plus that extra year is the main reason teams are looking to trade for him rather than wait until FA. Nolan Patrick doesn't seem like he will work in Philly, so there isn't much to lose there. Going for Hamilton indicates you are all in for this year and the first should be somewhere from 20-32. I'm a fan of both teams, I would not mind a trade like this coming from Carolina. Defense has been a mess since Niskanen retired and messed up the pairings. Hamilton brings that stability back and the rest of the D should follow. No more Provorov - Braun.</div></div>

Storm pretty much said what i was gonna say. and it’s not like other teams aren’t interested. if the flyers trade for the UFA’s rights of Hamilton, there is a higher chance that they do in fact get him signed. they’ll ask him if PHI is a preferred destination so that both sides agree mutually on the trade. we saw the same thing last off season with Edmundson and MTL.

this is a norris type dman we are talking about. Patrick’s time is no doubt done in PHI. he’s even expressed he wants out. you’re only giving up one first for a player who if he weren’t a UFA, could easily attract 2 firsts. but that’s why it’s a 3rd instead because it’s not guaranteed he signs. PHI who are desperate for dman should be all over this. it’s a much better option than overpaying off Jones.

Big expansion move to remain competitive
while i don’t mind the getzlaf signing, 4 mil even for only 1 year is an overpay for him. 1.8-2.3 million seems more reasonable. he wasn’t great defensively and declined offensively. the Giordano trade is interesting because paired with ekblad, he could definitely get back to 50-55 points in an 82 game regular season. But getting rid of Yandle should i be a priority at this point. he’s making too much to be a healthy scratch in the playoffs.

they’ve got 15 mil. i know they need to extend petty and hughes, but i think they can pay a pick for the kraken to take Myers or Schmidt, to which Dillon can be the replacement.

smart to give that first to SEA to get rid of gardiner. the first is practically useless. the ardvidsson deal is a good trade, but it’s just if NSH wants to move him even with his recent struggles. being able to keep bean is big and getting ned/svech on a beige deal is smart for both sides. Interesting to see Mrazek back. Bringing back Hakanpaa is a good decision too imo. but my favorite is bringing in savard. someone who’s good defensively, can be physical, and has good awareness in all 3 zones. plus he can create offense when needed. good off seasons for CAR if this would result. can make them a contender for the cup for real.

while GMRH said he wanted a big physical presence, i think he will give that opportunity to zohorna. though in a small sample size, he looked good this season and gave the physical play we needed him to. but that does seem the most likely place for him.

pettersson is a defenseman. he’s solid in his own zone but produces little to no offense. i think that CHI will move on from De Haan, and take someone who’s much better, but a little bit more expensive to replace him.

that makes sense. i don’t really feel like a veteran is needed to be brought in for someone who’s already a proven starter in the league, but i can see someone who can play a 1a/1b role signing. The Penguins as well need a veteran to split with Jarry, but as i felt CGY being the most accurate spot for DeSmith, I chose them and for similar reasons you explained. thank you for your comment too!

this isn’t my real prediction of the penguins 2022 team. this is my dream/ideal team. this is assuming that COVID-19 didn’t exist, and the cap would increase by 2 million every year. GMRH has expressed that the top 6 is the last of his concerns, so tatar would automatically be a no go.
