To MTL and WPG Fans
Just my 2 cents but if Winnipeg is trading PLD to a contender at the trade deadline than:
1) The 1st round pick Winnipeg gets wont be much better than the Florida pick this year
2) No contender is giving up a good roster player while going for a playoff push
3) Winnipeg will either have to take back a bad contract or retain on PLD because a contender will be close to the cap ceiling
4) The trade will probably look something like the Timo Meier trade
If Winnipeg want to get maximum return for PLD they need to trade him before the season starts
AND
Give the team they are trading him to a chance to negotiate a contract extension with him before hand
Personally I hope Montreal stays out of any negotiations for PLD
1) We are not winning anything next season so why bother
2) If he actually wants to play for Montreal he will sign with us after the 2023-24 season
Otherwise he can go play wherever he wants, NO BIG DEAL!
If we draft Will Smith at this draft we won't need PLD anyways
By 2025 we will have Suzuki-Smith-Dach down the middle, no room for PLD there unless we convert PLD or Dach to the wing
Also signing PLD as a UFA will throw our cap situation out of whack too (see Toronto with Tavares)
The only way I would want the Habs to trade for PLD is if we take Reinbacher with the 5th OA pick
So trading the 5th OA or Dach for PLD are both non options IMO
For me a PLD trade would look like the Florida pick plus 2 good prospects (maybe Beck and Harris) or NOTHING

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Just_A_Guess</b></div><div>Dach is not available for a PLD trade. Neither is Beck, Barron, MTL 5OA, Josh Roy, Suzuki, CC or Slaf. Whether you like it or not MTL will offer what they offer and you can try your hand with another team while they know PLD won't sign with them (considering the basis of your argument). Since the basis of the argument is that he will only sign in MTL, his value currently sits at the '24 1st & 3rd we would be required to send for a 1x6.3 OS. The FLA 1st, a semi-developed prospect (Kidney), and roster player of a lesser calibre (Dvorak for example, you won't receive a one for one roster player swap) gives you something to work with now. Value wise, that likely needs one more upper-mid piece but that's about the max that would be offered or we go elsewhere. We do not need him, the storyline would just be fun. If you don't like the offer, like I said, try your luck elsewhere (unless you decide to match an OS in which case he walks to FA as a UFA and is free game for all as likely the 4th best C option on the market next year)</div></div>
I hate that offer sheet option. I have to think if Montreal or any team did that just to screw over Wpg or any team in the same situation. The whole league would never talk to that team again.
That would be a very dirty play and I would think all of the owners would band together to get that GM and owner kicked out.

If it were the only offer available I would take it. Problem is, I think there will be lots of teams willing to pay a higher price.

At 18, Cristall, Honzek, Willander, Musty, But all impress much more than Heidt.</div></div>
I'm a fan of him. he looks like he can beat defenders in so many different ways. I also like every single player you mentioned. Honestly would be surprised if Heidt makes it past 20OA

Dach is a poor man’s laine playing out of position, so somewhat ironic that he would be in the return, new gms first decent size move for Montreal, would be interesting to if he is in the return for Dubois. Will be telling how he feels about his longevity with Montreal. I’m just hoping this doesn’t drag out throughout the off-season. Massive extension with Winnipeg or massive blockbuster that Winnipeg somehow wins is my hope, but we will see.

Put it this way, if Dubois is willing to sign long term in Winnipeg, I wouldnt do this trade as I personally think an extended Dubois is worth way more than 31/32 OA and Dach</div></div>
Maybe, but right now, the public situation is that PLD is most likely only looking at MTL, decreasing the value a lot. Dach is worth more than he was traded for, which was 13th OA. He is probably worth 10th in this year's draft. Dach is also far from finishing his growth, and 38 points are in only 58 games, which is way different than 38 points in 82 games. There is absolutely no reason for Dach's potential to not be at 70 points. Dach's contract is good. There are a lot of legitimate reasons why Dach is a better trade asset than PLD

Yeah haha we'll see if time proves me wrong, but I just never got very excited watching tape on Barlow. I didn't feel like he drove scoring opportunities for teammates and was third man in a lot. I think that showed on him really poorly in the WJC U18s this year where he was disappointing and lowered his stock. But if that tournament was a blip rather than the norm, I will show out to be wrong on this one
But is a player I really love. I think it would be amazing to see someone in the teens take a big swing on him

NO TY to Toews. You still have to get Wheeler and Scheifele off the roster and Dvorak is not a 2nd line C. Don't need Reaves when you have Lowry and Dillon.</div></div>
I'll be totally honest, I wouldn't sign Toews either...but I have a feeling it may happen. Also agree with Dvorak comment I just don't know what our other realistic options would be? Also, although Dillon and Lowry add some grit, they aren't fighters. I like the Reaves signing but he would be an extra...insert him into the lineup when you need more toughness like a game against Minnesota as example. Too many times guys would run our players without any real consequences. For crying out loud Nik Ehlers had to fight last year lol!!

But even without including Cristall, I still like Willander, Brzustewicz, Simashev and Gulyayev over Dragicevic.
Not by a lot, but enough. I have Dragicevic going late in the 1st round / early 2nd round. His skating doesn't do it for me and his decision making is... okay.</div></div>
Funny I like Dragicevic’s upside! But part of me still leans to Willander late 1st as well. But if Dragicevic hits his potential he could be a top pair offensive stud like Burns. If he doesn’t though he might only be a bottom pair with PP2 ability.

But, if I were WPG and Cristall was still available, I would forget my need on D and take a guy I have ranked 11the overall - Danielson or 12th overall - Cristall.</div></div>
Cristall scares me! Will he be a Pavelski type that can adjust to being a poor skater in the NHL or does he never hit his potential because of his skating? Dragicevic has a high ceiling and a decent floor and fills a need, I guess it comes down to the scouting dept. and their assessments.

Obviously, the issue with Michkov is his KHL contract, not skill or fit. Putin's buddy (Ovi) could have a lot of sway in getting him out of his contract earlier to come to the NHL.
With his KHL contract running til 25/26, most of the GMs drafting in the top 10 won't even have a job in 2026 if they don't get better. Many of them don't have the luxury to wait on Michkov. This isn't taking Kuch in the 2nd round and waiting a year or two for him.

Boqvist: 21 points in 763 minutes (10g 11a)
