Could they become more competitive this year
They were competitive last year. They had a winning record the last 41 games of the season. If Anderson and Tokarski both don’t get hurt at the same time they most likely end up with a winning record.

"Sabres GM Kevyn Adams was a guest on The Hot Stove on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio with TFP’s Dennis Bernstein and David Pagnotta on Saturday and admitted he’s informed teams that he will take on a contract if the right offer were made."
So for me just because he hasn't taken on a bad contract for compensation doesn't mean he wouldn't. Plus if you remember? Buffalo was going to take on Matt Murray in a cap dump but Murray squashed it with his NTC.</div></div>
I think the only reason why they wanted Murray was because they were getting the 7th overall pick and a position of need in a goalie. Also Zastiev has trade protection too I bet Buffalo and Arizona are on it that’s why he won’t get traded.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Riddick19</b></div><div>Because it adds 2 2nd round picks that are a solid form of trade currency. Buffalo has $19M worth of cap space and won't be a cap team for at least 2 years. So the Sabres get 2 2nd round picks for taking on the salary.</div></div>
Sabres haven’t taken on any bad contacts that are actually healthy enough to play. They already traded their version off Zastiev last season. It doesn’t make any sense to help out a divisional rival.

It’s basically the Eichel contract Sabres gave him in 2017. Great in transition, gets most of his points on the power play, not a great 5v5 player yet, but will become one.

22-23 Roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sabres89</b></div><div>I really like olofsson, that first line doesn't work though. There's no playmaker on that line, nobody to work the corners, and I'm not sure who is coming back to help out in our end. Just have to switch that up a bit. Asplund is gonna be in the lineup, his offense is nothing to write home about, but he's pretty good defensively, not giving up goals is important too. As far as the d- dahlin will play the right side with Samuelsson, power will play the left side and be paired with jokiharju or preferably lybushkin.</div></div>
It’s going to be power and Jokiharju. They played really well last year. Lyubushkin and Bryson will be a good pair. They will both help each other out.

Okposo had crazy unlucky health issues. Skinner In his 2 seasons playing top 6 minutes has 73 goals in those years. It was Thompson first full NHL year playing center and he scored 38 goals it will work out well.

Nikita Zaitsev is Ottawa number 1 RD. They aren’t going anywhere. Detroit 1 number LHD is Ben Chiarot they also aren’t winning anything. All 3 teams will be 80 point teams. It’s funny how both Ottawa and Detroit finished below Buffalo when the Sabres faced so much adversity at the start of the season and both Yzerman and Dorion think they are ready to compete for a playoff spot.

Trading for RFA rights never cost that much. C-B level prospects and a first. Reinhart trade and Fiala trade are both good examples of this.

They had a winning record with Craig Anderson in net. Comrie will look good I’m not really worried about the goalies this season.

Sabres are just waiting it out. Adams is extremely patient, they aren’t trading any top prospects for immediate help and rushing things, that’s the reason why the previous GM’s got fired.

Well they had 75 when they didn’t have Tuch for the first 30 games of the season, Olofsson going on a weird 30 game goalless drought, Anderson missing over 2 months with an injury. Plus having a full year of Power and Quinn I think it’s pretty easy to assume they get 80 points.

Like I said when you have the 6th&5th pick in the draft you are supposed to draft well. He spent money on 2-3 line players and gave out a long term contract to Ben Chiarot. Let’s see if they can pass the Sabres in the standings first before we call Yzerman the best GM.

BriseBois trade deadline acquisitions was ultimately why Tampa won 2 in a row. Sabres had 20 more points than Montreal, and finished ahead of both Ottawa and Detroit. Detroit and Buffalo will both be 80 point teams this year. Sabres will feel better about their season though.

They finished 5th last season and had a winning record the last 41 games of the season. They aren’t a playoff team yet, but they aren’t going to be as bad as people are projecting it shouldn’t shock anyone if they are better than both Ottawa or Detroit again this year.
