If youre going all-in go all-in

It comes down to how one evaluates Raty, and Brzustewicz. I would rather have 2 x 2nds. I don't think the Flames could flip Myers, so he's a negative asset in this trade.</div></div>
All completely fair, but I definitely think you could flip Myers if you retain 50%. He's been a very solid, if inconsistent, bottom four D this season. Those players always end up fetching a good return at the deadline, especially in a seller's market like this year's.

When Healthy
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>westleysnipez</b></div><div>The Canucks plan was to re-sign him at a higher rate, 2.2m-3m range, before he was injured. Because he was injured with a December/January return time, that meant the Canucks turned their focus towards two defenders in FA, rather than just one. Cole and Soucy were signed, and the idea was that Vancouver would clear cap space out before Bear returned, either through other LTIR or trades. I think Canucks management is worried that Bear may not be playing at 100% for this season, and intend to sign him closer to league minimum as a 'show me' and then determine out of Bear/Zadorov/Cole which ones stay next year.</div></div>
Yeah, the cap hit in this team was just a placeholder, kind of pointless trying to guess what his contract will be given the circumstances. I personally think the league min is the most likely outcome, but that's obviously not an accurate representation of his value.

Yeah for sure. Didn't think too hard about the trade since we have no idea what the cap will be next season. Was more just an exercise to see what the team could like next season with realistic extensions for Petey & Hronek and realistic UFA adds on D.

Guentzel has 99 goals in the last 3 seasons and Connor at 104, both high end scorers. Just better options imo if you're trying to put a legit team together. Or Kreider even.</div></div>
Guentzel and Connor were definitely considered. Idea is for that third line to be a sort of shutdown line with three Selke or near-Selke calibre forwards who can also score.

Boeser is going to Toronto in this hypothetical. He's also got a year left on his current deal. The logic from Toronto's side is they get a worse Nylander at a fairer cap hit giving them more money to throw at Matthews for next year, plus picks to even out the value.
We have enough forwards on the cusp of earning full-time NHL jobs that I'm fine with letting Beau walk. Pod hasn't earned a significant cap hit yet.

Agree about the trade value. Boeser coming off the books gives us roughly $43 million in space for 24-25. That's enough to re-sign Petey, Nylander, and Hronek with $15-$18 million left to fill out the roster.

Miller on the other hand is what 30-31 and not on the greatest contract due to the term.
Bruins most likely are about to be retooling real quick here and paying vets on the wrong side of 30 big money long term won’t help us, I don’t want to be Calgary and be stuck in mediocrity with a bunch of bad contracts</div></div>
Fair enough, I just don't think being stuck in mediocrity is really that much of a worry for a team that just won 65 games. The window is wide open right now. There will be one big, gaping hole in your roster this season if Bergy doesn't come back. Is there a player that fills that need better than Miller who's available?

Ok, so you don't want Miller, and you're not trading Lysell, that's completely fair. How does trading from a position of strength (RD) for the better player at a position of need (C) "set you back a couple years"? That's a genuine question.

Value seems fair, but Dillon just doesn't really fit on our roster. We have more than enough decent 2nd/3rd pairing defensemen. If we're going to trade Garland for a D, it has to be someone who can be a medium to long-term partner for Hughes, or a true #3/#4 to play with OEL. Dillon is a good player, but he doesn't really fill either of those roles.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rooney</b></div><div>In all honesty, I think DeMelo is VERY underrated but I understand Garland would probably command a decent return. I'd be nervous as a Jets fan if they gave up a 1st lol.</div></div>
You might be right, and maybe DeMelo is that guy for us, but Garland was basically the only forward who could score for us at 5v5 last season, and he's a good 2-way player on a great contract. If we're trading him, it has to be for a sure thing, or we're going to want picks/prospects.

I... kind of like this. Garland+Schenn+2nd for Reinhart+Gudas is roughly equal, probably slightly favours FLA. If we can offload five years of OEL for one year of Hornqvist, though, that cap space could be put to good use down the line.

I know Canucks fans are notorious for overrating our own players, but I really think Garland makes the Canes a better team now. Necas might become the better player in two or three years, but for a team trying to win a Cup this year, wouldn't Garland (a better two-way player and 5v5 scorer signed at a reasonable AAV) be more valuable?
