Alex Chiasson doesn't come anywhere close to a 2nd round pick. Far more option to saturate the market for that price tag. Can't imagine Toronto would deal Brown for that package either.

Blockbuster with Calgary
I think there are far cheaper depth D options. One who wouldn't have another year on their deal since they already have 1 year left of Stone to deal with. They don't have a lot in the cupboard for upcoming rookies and they haven't had a lot of 1st round draft picks the last number of years. I think you could get Nyquist for a 1st straight up.

Calgary kindly declines. Far too much to give up for 2 expiring UFA's and an overpaid aging D man. I like Nyquist and I like Howard as a back up option, but this is putting far too many future in 1 basket. If they are moving a package like this, it has to be for one of Stone, Panarin, Duchene.

No, just....no. Not a chance Calgary moves Rasmus for Gudas, let alone include a 2nd round pick.
They will also have absolutely no interest in Sieloff who isn't even close to an NHLer.

Canadian Teams Overview CGY
Stay far far away from Quick.
I wouldn't give up a 1st round pick for him, let alone top prospects.
1) He's already 33 and has 4 years left at just shy of 6M per season. This will hinder the Flames going forward.
2) He's injured. A LOT. Multiple knee surgery's and back issues. He's not getting any younger, and I'd expect his numbers continue to take a nose dive with age. See: Mike Smith.
3) Giving up top picks/prospects, while simultaneously helping the Kings cap situation is likely not something the Flames should do.

Not a chance the Flames do that deal with Carolina. Valamaki is a stud, and will be in their top 4 for years to come. Including a 1st as well? Fleury was a high pick, buts its already his 4th year since being drafted and he hasn't cracked a full time spot in Carolina.
No thanks.

All-In this year and a few more
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>flamesfan419</b></div><div>I don't see it as "nothing".
Combined Dzingel & Ferland could add 40+ goals to the line-up. Currently they're combined 31 goals half way through this season.
Ferland under Peters I think will understand what his role is far more clearly than in the past, and that is to be a "presence" on the ice, while chipping in with goals every few games. (or more) Ferland could also take some physical pressure off guys like Tkachuk & Bennett. He's got enough skill to become a true power forward.
Dzingel can play any forward position and can move into any slot required.
This also allows for summertime decisions to be made on guys like Frolik.
I appreciate if you don't fully agree, but I think this would be a positive going forward</div></div>
The issue with this is the Flames are giving up 3 of their top prospects in Mang, Dube, and Kylington, as well as their 1st round pick when their cupboard is already pretty bare AND their 2nd. This basically cleans it out completely, to add a few rental players. They can't afford to re-sign Ferland who will likely get 5-6M in the open market. Dzingle is also a UFA who will be due for a larger raise. This is just too much for the Flames to pay for rentals.
I'm not against the flames dealing a 1st round pick, or a 2nd round pick, but it would have to be for a player with some term, who is on a friendly deal. If the Flames are moving a 1st round pick, the only players they likely do this for are Stone, Duchene, Panarin, etc.

WAY WAY too much for Wayne Simmonds. Hard pass from a Flames perspective. I wouldn't even give up a 1st+ for an upcoming UFA in Simmonds, let alone including Dube AND Kylington.

another possibility for EK
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canadianape</b></div><div>this is assuming Karlsson signs with Calgary. no team in the league is trading for karlsson with out some reassurance that he is signing.
the picks negate the cap space of Frolik and Stone going back. bodeker, wideman, ryan and the retained salary on both of those guys is definetly fair value for hanifin. and finnaly Tkachuk and anderson for Karlsson (with some value from the rest of the trade) is more than fair. Tkachuk hasn't broken 50 points in his career karlsson is consistently above 60 points and is the best defenseman in the league. andersson is a prospect and from what we've seen so far at best a 3rd pairing defenseman on Calgary. we have other defensive prospects coming up so losing andersson is not that bad. You clearly don't have a clue about hockey if you think this isn't even close. it was well thought out you just clearly are not intelligent enough to see the reasoning.</div></div>
The Flames had to give up Dougie Hamilton+Fox+Ferland to acquire Hanifin+Lindholm. Trading Hanifin for Boedker Wideman and Bobby Ryan isn't even close to fair value. Boedker+Ryan are both salary dumps and Wideman isn't even close to value.
Try again.

not a chance in hell the Flames make this deal. I'm honestly not even sure if the Flames would give up Tkachuk for Karlsson. I mean, they likely would if they knew they could re-sign Karlsson, but no way would they include multiple high end pick+top prospect Andersson+ another top 4 young D-man in Hanafin + TAKE ON THAT HORRIFIC BOBBY RYAN CONTRACT. This isn't even close. I'm sorry, but its so so so poorly thought out.

That Evander Kane deal is SO SO SO bad....One difference is Kane had a good playoffs. JVR didn't. And Neal is older, but I think you may be right in saying both would get north of 6M. Grubauer I wouldn't say gets 3m. I think he'd take a 1-2 year extension take over for Smith, then cash in big after that.

Fair trade Calgary fans?
The meaning I was going for is, no, that is no from Calgary. Not entirely because I feel Bennett's value is higher than Grubauer, but more so because I feel this doesn't meet the biggest need the Flames have.
If you are going to trade Bennett, you NEED to make it for the greatest need organizationally. Which right now is a Top 6 RW. Perhaps Bennett isn't enough, so you package him with one of the d-men prospects like Kylington.
Flames have depth prospect at Goalie, and Defence, but next to zero RW depth.

If they trade Bennett, it will not be for a goalie. They have Gillis, Rittich, and Parsons. And its not like Phillip has been having an outstanding season either.

Flames would need to include Gillis if they include a goalie prospect. Wishful thinking on Stone, yes.
More likely:
Gillis
Bennett
Kylington
Brouwer (Dump)
For
Hoffman
Smith
Late round pick?

I think he would consider this trade.
He gets younger, clears some much needed cap space and adds a goalie prospect. I think it would have to be Gillis thou.
I'd like to see something along the lines of:
Hoffman
Smith (Salary dump for Sens)
For:
Bennett
Stone
Brouwer (Retained salary)
Gillis
I dunno, but something along those lines.

Trade with Minnesota based off of BMac’s latest comments on the TDL
Minny won't make this deal. One of their best D-men in Dumba, as well as a top 6 forward for an old, overpriced Orpik, and a late 1st round pick? Burakovsky has some value to be sure, but I think Washington would be paying much more than the proposed deal. I don't see Minny trading Dumba either.

Flames will not give up one of their top D prospects in Andersson for a goalie. They have Smith locked in for another year, and 3 goalie prospects who will fight for the backup slot. One of the 3 will take over in the near future.

That Flames/Avs trade is way out to lunch. Flames aren't going to trade a kid they just signed to a great value deal over the next 2 seasons, plus 2 of their top D-prospects for 2 years of Duchene, who could very well walk at the end of his contract.
MAYBE if Brouwer was include to get him off the Flames books, but they aren't tight cap wise, so there isn't a pressing need to get him off the books this season. Not a chance that deal happens.

17-18 Calgary Flames+ Some PTO options
I get the Jagr signing bonus to an extent. The full 3M would be used on this years cap, or some could be differed to next year. I think the reasoning for bonuses would be incase Jagr has completely fallen of this year. If he has a great year, then Flames won't have any problem giving him the full bonuses, but at least if he under performs, it would save the Flames some actual dollars.
As per Stajan and Brouwer. My understanding is both have M-NTC. But neither have NO-MOVMENT clauses. Which means they can be demoted to the AHL. I understand neither move save much in cap space. I only say they could be demoted if they feel a youth player would be better served in the roles. Or if they feel perhaps a team will take them off their hands at the waiver discount.
Just some thoughts. I would ignore Hudler. He is one of those guys who completely fell off a cliff since being traded out of Calgary. Even before the trade he had a really rough season.

Leafs
Leafs would never trade Matthews for Kuzy. It just won't happen. Not this early in his career, and with absolutely no reason to want to trade him.
E.Kane for JVR is possible, but i think the Leafs will be more interested in adding a young D-man in the trade.
Marleau for a 3rd rounder makes very little sense. Why sign him this off-season, and pulling him away from the Sharks to then flip him for a 3rd rounder? The backlash from future UFAs would be pretty huge.

Impossible to sign Elliott. Regardless of when they sign him they would owe St.Louis a pick a 3rd round pick, which they don't have anymore. Not to mention, there is no way in hell he would accept that deal. And why would the Flames trade for Lack and then sign Elliott? How does that make any sense even if the 3rd wasn't already the issue.
Bennett is going to get more than that as well.

Versteeg signed
Unfortunately there is no way any team is going to help the Flames on that Brouwer deal. Especially not the Canucks. And if rumours are true, Justin Williams has received a lot of calls. I think he will get closer to 4m per season and multiple years for sure.
Maybe 3.75 minimum IMO.
The worry with Ferland is he has arbitration rights, and they can look directly at the Bouma deal, as well as the recent signing of Kassian. I think we see a 2-3 year deal in that 1.75-2m range. 1.5M would be a blessing thou :)
