This is blatantly incorrect.
“Dallas does pick up 3 mil here but are likely still able to sign Robertson & Oettinger regardless.“
Dallas doesn’t touch this trade

Cap Space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>The problem I see here is that Dallas has $10.3 million in cap space and the difference between Barrie's and Hakanpaa's cap hits is $2.5 million. So that means that the Stars would have $7.8 million to re-sign both Jason Robertson and Jake Oettinger. And now you're adding Foegele and his $2.75 million cap hit to the dump.</div></div>
Not to mention the Stars get much worse defensively.

Toews and Kane
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>As bad as you're making Toews sound as a player...Faksa is worse. ALOT worse. Last year Toews' year would have been Faksa's career best year. Lower cap hit too. Less years committed too. This move would make them immediate cup contenders.
The two 1sts are easy to give on. The 32nd pick in ANY draft is a magic bean. Nothing guaranteed. I can understand Wyatt might need to swap to Stank, but it would be one of the two.</div></div>
I guess I'm not as bullish on the Stars. Granted they are my team but I don't see this as a move to make them a contender. It doesn't move Dallas past the Avalanche nor the Blues.
Plus I've never liked Toews. Just my personal opinion.
I honestly would rather have our prospects and 1st rounders. Continuing to build our pipeline and take a look at building a contender 3 or 4 years down the road.

I just can't see Jim Nill giving up 2 firsts. Take out Toews. You would need to pay Dallas to take him.
Johnston is a non starter so no there as well.
This trade proposal just needs to go away.

Helping Others Helping Ourselves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Koskinen_The_Great</b></div><div>The Petry case is confounding and that's why it causes a lot of consternation here.
On one side you have the dynamic of supply and demand. There is literally nobody available on the right side of defence at a cheap cost after the Letang signing.
On the other side, no teams have the money to fit him in their salary structure besides 3-4 teams.
At this point you have to go by Hughes word and that is he is NOT retaining any salary in a trade, and he wont pay to move him. That clearly indicates without the return he demands, there is no deal.
We saw with the Islanders rumours that the 13th pick was available, and, indeed, traded to the Habs. Hughes didnt budge by trading Anderson which was reported by Seravalli and Lebrun as a monster ask above a high pick.
Petry wont be traded for any less than what Hughes demands. That is something that ppl should have learned here by now.
The same story happened with Lehkonen. Everyone here said they wouldnt get a 1st round pick in return. Hughes never waivered in his return requests and Lebrun had an entire article on theathletic dedicated to the process from the Sakic and Hughes sides.
Sakic didn't want to move a pick and prospect but it occurred.
Hughes with that whole ordeal and now the courageous selection of Juraj as the whole market was chanting for Wright, that shows that he will not be cornered, whatsoever.
For people not to learn by now that Petry wont be given away is borderline sociopathic and those ppl should be ignored.</div></div>
This is a well thought out post. However I would contend that Montreal fans expecting Dallas to give up a first or top prospect without serious retention is equally sociopathic.

The only problem with your scenario is you have used up all the cap. We still need to fill out our roster with 3 more players.

We don’t know if they weren’t willing with 3 mil in retention. The op is a pretty fair proposal. I would still hope Nill would decline it though. Petrys age doesn’t fit the direction our team needs to go.

If Petry was worth a first he would have been traded yesterday. His term and $$$ is too much for too long at his age.

How tall are these guys - What team is this
I was being rather facetious about getting a first. I’m pretty new and don’t know if there is a sarcasm font. I
Ike Petry and think he would be a great fit for Dallas. Except the cap numbers do not work.
Comparing Romanov and Petry on value is folly. Ones at the beginning of his career and one at its end. Regardless of how Petry finished the year the first half damaged his value. Gm’s have seen the possibility of the cliff being near and a 3 year commitment could be tragic.
