Eichel to MTL counter
Toffoli has pretty high value with his contract, and Buffalo needs a C in return ... plus some picks to help sweeten the pot.
Really hard to move Toffoli the way he is playing, but if you want to get something, you gotta give something! Decent chance Toffoli's value is never higher than it is this off-season too.
Montreal has to let Tatar and Danault walk. Poehling, Evans, Mysak, Fleury- or players with similar ELC cap hits have to fill out Montreal's bottom end. They have 2.5-3M cap space with those rookies in place, if they resign Armia at 3M, and Lehkonen at his QO rate.

No, but one pair isn't enough in my eyes, especially when they've had one go down two seasons in a row. Fair enough you can run PP with 4 forwards ... I feel a need for 3 and 3 instead of 2 puck movers and 4 stay at home guys.

Also, overall he is an extremely high net negative. Worse defensive defensman and an absolute turnover machine. Secondary assists don't make him worth 4m</div></div>
its for sure an overpayment, but youd need some kind of offensive dman in there, and thats the money i had left over. Barrie would be great, but its already low chance of landing RNH without chasing him too, and if you don't get that then ur cooked anyway.
I revised the money down. I guess Del Zotto coming back would be an option too though, or maybe Mike Rielly, but I give him about as much credit as you guys do Gustafsson

It would be great to keep Brossoit, but I can see him being offered over 2M with medium term, and I am not sure Jets would pay up to keep him. Kinkaid is more of a third goalie I guess, they probably have some prospect who could come up, but you don't want a valuable prospect playing backup to Hellebuyck all season either.
Kinkaid been play on pretty porous teams past several seasons too.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tsyls</b></div><div>His agent is a stickler. They filed for arbitration last year, might do it again. Copp has had 1 good season, besides this year he’s never even broken 30 pts. So no, he’s not even getting close to what Ehlers is making. Teams can OS him for 4.4-6.5 for all I care, I’ll take their 1st and 3rd for Copp. Only way Jets manage to keep him is if he wants to stay, (arb last year makes him seem like a bit of a pain to negotiate with) and he’ll take a reasonable amount around 4.25m.
If he had like 5 45+ Pt seasons then I’d consider maybe 5m because of the defensive game he brings, but you don’t pay a guy who’s never scored 20 goals, or had 50 pts once over 4.5 million.</div></div>
The year Ehlers signed @6M he had two season at 0.75 points/game ... I would say at his current production, Ehlers is a bit underpaid by league standards.
Copp has 0.75 per game this year, and half a point per game the previous season. You combine the potential interest of other teams, and a bit of cap inflation since Ehlers signed... I think you are looking at 5-5.5m all day. 6M gets it done before free agency.

Pionk likely takes like an 7 or 8 year deal at 5.5 million. They’d just bring up berdin if brossoit leaves in FA. Little likely is on LTIR. Perreault will get under 2 million. I don’t mind bringing helm and sutter in for cheap though.</div></div>
Pretty big year for Copp, not too far short of Ehlers, granted coming a bit later in his career as well. 4.5M seems like the low end for sure, other teams will definitely be sniffing around. I have no doubt the player wants to stay, but agents be agents.

Why tf are we protecting Tierney over Dadonov.
Also those UFA signings are so unnecessary and Granlund and Saad are both overpays</div></div>
You are right, I didnt consider the term properly in that regard at all! As for Dadonov, its just a different take, I like him but I thought he would have fit better. All they would have to do is sign Mete before the draft date for those 3 dmen to be an option though, it doesn't seem too far out of the question.

3.5M from Chiarot and 1.8M from Kulak should go a good way towards that, always room for future moves too. Would suck to let Chiarot go, but we have a lot invested in certain other defensive players haha
As for KK, he hasnt out produced Lehkonen or Armia really... you can get him on another shorter contract at a lowwer price still- but we shall see.

I think price for Danault is reasonable, but Tatar is not likely to take a cut in pay, somewhere between 5.5 and 6 would be my guess, MTL should definitely be wary of increase much from 5.5, though.
I think you slot Suzuki as #1 next year, with Toffoli on RW, Danault and Gallagher start as second line and we hope Kotkaniemi and Anderson overtakes them as the season goes along. Those are all C+RW in my mind, and then Tatar, Armia, Lehkonen, and Byron all interchangeable on the left side. Caulfield could also work his way up and down the right side this way.

I think there are fair but tough questions about his durability that complicate this. Plus tokarski cannot be the backup, he could get 40 starts and lose 30, i just dont expect him to make timely saves, we need a real backup, one that can play 40 games if needed.</div></div>
It is high price for him, I agree with your 'questions', but I am not sure who else would be available as a good medium term #1 goalie if they allow him to go to free agency. Overpaying a bit could secure the position before free agency.
There is probably enough room even at that price for Ullmark to add Brossoit, I imagine you could steal him away for a little over 2M... He is certainly unproven as far as playing as much as 40 game, but he seems like one of the better backups around the league these days.

I tend to agree, my first thought of Laine trade to CBJ was that they wanted the 1,2,3 compensation package. Kekkalainen says he wants to build around him though, and overpaying RNH is likely the only way to get him, and even though he isn't exactly a top C, he's the best one potentially available as a free agent this year.

Laine isn't worth that much either, in my opinion, but that is the point; its the only way CBJ could pry him away from Oilers... and they need a C for Laine, otherwise its back to the drawing board.
That's overpaying him ~1.5M what Oilers should really invest in him, if they want to keep Barrie too.

Not trying to insult either player, I think they both need a change of scenery and expectations. As for having him on a line with another shooter; what is wrong with giving Suzuki more options? Besides lines are rarely set in stone anyway.

He’s done nothing but be a great pro while having to deal with the endless amount of bullsh*t that the media and quote unquote “fans” pile on him.
On the ice he definitely does struggle a bit with confidence in his shot, and he should shoot the puck more, but no one’s ever called anyone a bad person because they’re not selfish.</div></div>
No one said he's not a 'nice guy', i think people question his work ethic. in tampa he refused to report to their minor league affiliate, basically forcing a trade. As soon as he did I knew Montreal would end up wearing him. Probably the smartest move Bergevin ever made, not from a hockey standpoint, but for his personal career. Bought himself so much public relations credit by bringing in the hometown boy. His contract is not terrible, but he is inconsistent, and expectations are insane.
Skinner has a significantly longer track record, and they both have similar points per game over their career. Change of scenery and expectations would be good for both of them, I think.

Are Buffalo and Skinner struggling enough that they could be tempted with an escape from that contract? A bit of salary retention to make the players basically even value for the remaining year's of Drouin's contract, then Montreal still has Skinner for 4 mores years, while Buffalo just has $1.8M cap hit instead.
