Why not just add the 3rd rounder from the Sens and bring in TVR? He's a good fit for the Sens biggest need for next year.

If there's an extension with Ullmark they need to take this and run. Carlo is a beast and would form a formidable top pair with Sanderson, and there'd be no more questions about goaltending - it would all be on the players and coaches.
Trading Brady would suck, but this is fair value - it would open up the Sens to move Chychrun for Ehlers or Necas and not be too forward heavy.

If Carolina does Necas for Chychrun even at 50% retained on Jake the Sens should be running to the NHL offices to get that deal done. That is such a steal for an RFA they can likely lock up long term. Cap would be tight this year but would be a HUGE long term gain

Marino is the perfect guy to pair with Sanderson, and Mercer is an awesome 3rd line winger. Gus would be a risky take, but he is an improvement over the current goalies. But the pick being 13 instead of 10 is an issue - I'd rather 10 and no Gus than 13 with Gus. At 10 it's VERY likely one of Catton or Iginla will still be there, but not at 13 (assuming Sens take Parekh/Buium/Dickinson at 7). It still feels short though even with 10.
I'd look more at 10 + Marino + Mercer + Casey for Tkachuk + 2025 3rd + Boucher

I don't see the Sens even buying out Campbell - give him 1 year as a bounce back chance to change the buyout math.

That RD is BAD. Holl is a 7th D on a competing team. Trade Chychrun and Brannstrom to free up 6.5m on this team, bring up Kleven instead of Guenette, sign a UFA RD like Roy or Pesce with that money. Kelly is going to get near league minimum, he's not worth any more, same with Crookshank who's barely had a cup of tea in the NHL. Can use that money to get a better 3rd liner as a UFA.

Be good againB Tkachuk Ehlers Iafallo
Only players that have a hint of being available the Sens would have true interest in is Devon Levi or UPL (obviously Dahlin and Power would be too, but not even going there). The 1st is a good chip, but the other 3 players aren't proven enough yet to even consider trading Brady.
I'd just say that Buffalo fans should give up on thinking about Tkachuk - compare this package to ones Bruins fans throw out there with Carlo, Ullmark, and 2 1sts and it pretty obvious which one the Sens would take for Tkachuk.

They can have that trade set up before pulling the trigger on this one. Let them know you may have 18th in a trade, would 18 and 26 get me 11? If they say no then don't do this trade.
It's not very far off Chychrun's value though, can't expect much more than a 1st and a depth player.

It's not, I'd be very close to doing that deal. Garland has that physical edge that Joseph doesn't. The extra 2 million is tricky to deal with, if they'd take back Forsberg then I'd be all in on it. But anyone who has watched these playoffs can see Garland is a player you want on your team for the playoffs.

Leafs trade is reasonable, Carrier and Lillegren contracts are WAY too pricey. Lillegren is going to be closer to 2 million, Carrier will be closer to 3 million. I'd rather go big game UFA shopping with Pesce or Roy but I could see the Sens having to settle for Carrier. If they have to then use the remaining cap space to sign Pinto long term, 5-6 million should get him locked up for 5/6 years.

Making It Work
Ceci doesn't need a buyout, someone would take him and stash him on the 3rd pair for the year.
Add in you've got 3 scratches which is 2.4 million they could spend on a better 2nd pair RD (3.7 million would easily land Dylan DeMelo).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>athrin</b></div><div>maybe in a strong draft class 18th would be good but this is not that strong a draft class. not enough for chych</div></div>
The key with this is that Ottawa has Boston's pick too - combine 26th with 18th and they could move up to 11/12th, right back into that third tier of players. Whether that's used on Yakemchuk/Catton/Jiricek there's almost certainly going to be a high upside player available.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>athrin</b></div><div>no chance OTT does this, those two cap dumps would costs a 1st+ just to dump OTT get nothing for norris here</div></div>
Copp would fit well on the 3rd line - overpaid yes, but it's only 3 years compared to Norris for 6. I'd say he has flat value.
Holl is where it gets tough, he's really just a 7th D, but at least it's only for 2 years. It wouldn't cost a 1st to dump him somewhere else either.
So that breaks down to a 1st and ~3rd in value for Norris. Not that far off since the biggest value is getting out from his cap hit.

I wouldn't because I think Niemela and Lilegren are too similar - both are likely to end up as bottom pair guys. Swap in Robertson for either one and I'd be thinking about it a long time.

I think the trade packages are close - but to the wrong teams. Jets would prefer Chychrun - a 1 for 1 with Ehlers isn't likely far off. Then to the Caps send Branny, Joseph, BOS 1st for TVR, WSH 1st.

We've been through this with Hoffman - TRADE WITHIN YOUR DIVISION. Take the best deal no matter where it is, because if the Sens don't whoever they trade with will, and Chychrun would still end up on the Leafs and Sens with egg on their face - again.
I'm also high on Robertson and think the Leafs would be stupid to trade him, especially if Marner goes. I've never understood why he doesn't get regular ice time - lots of skill, thinks the game very well, and decent compete level. Put him with Matthews for a while and they'll be scoring in bunches.

Carlo instead of Lindholm; Frederic instead of Beecher. Make the 1sts unprotected and I'd be thinking long and hard about it - can't see Boston being out of the playoffs but weird things can happen.

Norris won't be on LTIR, and at least this trade brings back a great 3rd liner and cap flexibility going forward. If it's a precursor move to doing a Chychrun/Ehlers swap I see it as a net gain. If Chychrun is sent out with only picks coming back then don't make this move.
