Accelerating the rebuild
I like BOTH of these deals. I know you're getting a lot of flack but these check a.lot of boxes for me.
1) Habs get bigger at forward
2) Habs acquire a few younger players who are former top 15 picks in the same age range as the other young players on the team
3) Lots of upside for the entire top 6
Who cares about futures 3-5 years from now. We need to get better now.

Accelerating the rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>I don't value Kakko that much. He has potential but a late 1st is probably the max I'd be willing to give up which is close to the value of Mesar. If it's Mesar Habs probably add another later pick, 3rd or something, if it's a pick by its self then it's Winnipeg's 1st.
Kakkos value is mostly determined by the risk a team is willing to take with him, maybe you get a rebuilder who pays more to take that chance but I don't see teams lining up to give up a 1st ++ for him</div></div>
So... I believe you need big body players who are good at defence in the playoffs on all of your lines.
Don't forget that Kakko's value is not determined in a vacuum. He is a young RW with size who plays well defensively and has scoring upside on a team that:
1) Is trying to win the Stanley Cup in the next 2-3 years
2) Has very few RWs in their pipeline
Mesar will not play on their team next year
Mesar doesn't have size
There is very little incentive for the Rangers to do this deal even if they believe Mesar is the better player long term.

Would you start Lindstrom in the NHL next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shanesaw9</b></div><div>What are your thoughts on Maillet? He's a 31 year old 5'10" forward who is Laval's 2nd leading scorer with 49 pts in 63 games. Laval probably isn't making the playoffs so why is this guy pushing their other prospects down the lineup and hurting their development? Would Simoneau or Farrell, or Davidson have gotten more opportunity if they signed a bigger depth AHL guy instead?
More speculation by me, but I think Kidney is a soft player but a talented playmaker who maybe just doesn't have the linemates to compliment his game in Laval.</div></div>
I dunno. He didn't stand out in any way. Like... If I told you Evans needs to be in the top 6 next year.
Yeah we know he'd also ok, wouldn't embarrass the team, but has he really showed you enough offensively to warrant it?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shanesaw9</b></div><div>I don't watch Lindstrom to really know anything about what his game needs... but I will speculate that with his missed time due to injury this season more development might not be the worst thing for him. Again, I think it's a decision that can't be made until you see where he is at prior to next season.
Edit: Do you watch many Laval games? Asking because I only catch highlights of the top prospects from time to time but it seems like a theme for Laval, undersized forwards play down in the lineup and don't get prime offensive opportunities. Not sure if it's a systematic thing with the coach or the fact that they have too many undersized offensive guys (only so much opportunity) or maybe I'm just wrong but it's seems to be a trend.</div></div>
They play Farrell & Gignac up the lineup. Kidney just didn't adapt quick enough. I've been to a few games this season. Farrell is their best power play forward by far. Really looks like Suzuki on the half wall.

3 appropriately sized scoring lines
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shanesaw9</b></div><div>And when he doesn't have the puck? He averages ~0.3 hits / game or ~25 per 82 games... that's really soft for a 6'2" 200 lbs player. Even Caufield has 52 hits this season. I think Kakko is too soft for NHL hockey, and that's a prime reason why his game hasn't translated to the NHL.
I'm also coming around to the idea of drafting Tij Iginla, he is thriving in playoffs right now I think he will be climbing the draft rankings.</div></div>
I am specifically looking at his play the past 25-30 games (since coming back from injury). Soft players do not stand in the blue paint as he does. He needs to work on his consistency, but when he's on, this kid can really play. He's been a LOT more consistent the past 25 games than at any other time in his career.

I still don't know what yall see in Kakko that makes you want to pay that much for him.
I get rangers fans want to keep him fot the off-chance that he suddenlty hits his stride but other teams shouldnt pay that much.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shanesaw9</b></div><div>That's a fair trade offer for Kovacevic (value wise), but I don't think MTL would really want Colton.</div></div>
I feel like Colton would make their bottom six better but also recognize they have a lot of forwards when healthy. I could see it happening if they also moved, say Evans.
Ultimately the Avs could move Colton for a pick and make a different offer for Kovacevic, but I went this route for the sake of simplicity.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Did you miss the Canadiens throw Drouin at center? The best way to move a guy to the middle is to put him in the bottom six and let him adjust slowly, just as Aho did. Carolina can't do that, they have Aho and 3 3C's. Why would you shoehorn a guy out of position to accommodate Necas when Necas is having success where he is? Especially because 2C wasn't an issue before this year. KK was great last year, and Trocheck was great before that.</div></div>
So basicly the reason he is not playing center is because he cant play center yet...

Canes weakness has been second line center for a while, why dont they put him at 2c?
Montreal wont trade their 1c and captain that is signed longterm.
trading Necas for the canes can make sense if the return is right, but suzuki is just not available.

Doubt Montreal takes that. Although Necas is good, it would be better just to keep the center man in Suzuki, then grab a winger, third line guy, and 2 2nds imo.

What happen with Z
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shanesaw9</b></div><div>Gotta try to up his value before they trade him in the offseason! Just kidding haha
He still finished with less than 15 minutes of ice time though so he still isn't quite getting top 6 minutes yet. I don't think that's a very big deal for a player returning from an injury but I think there is a bit of truth to the trade rumours, where there's smoke...</div></div>
MTL fans have been saying where there's smoke there's fire since last off season with his contract holdout. Fans also say where there's smoke there's fire about Gibson, that's been going on for 5 years.
As to "below 15 minutes", 1: I consider 14:45 near as makes no difference 15 minutes, and 2: it's difficult for your 2nd line to be out there for over 15 minutes when your team spends so much time on the PK and so little time on the PP. We've taken 1040 minutes of penalties so far and we still have 8 games left, that's almost 15 minutes/game. I think regarding ice time for non PK players this season, an adjustment needs to be made for Anaheim by a couple minutes per game just to calibrate.

The treatment he is getting in Anaheim is only lowering his value around the league. I previously compared him to Caufield and DeBrincat (in terms of value), now I see him as more of a Galchenyuk — a very talented young player that comes with some baggage.
Could probably still make a deal but I think Anaheim would have to be willing to absorb a contract in return to reduce the risk, someone like Anderson for example.</div></div>
The major issue this off-season for Los Angeles will be what happens with Matt Roy.
The major issue this off-season for Anaheim will be what happens with Trevor Zegras. (A secondary matter of interest is who the Ducks will get in the draft: Celebrini? Levshunov? Other?)

He took a bad penalty, some would say it's what cost them the game, he's going to get called out for that.
As to points, he's been back for 2 games, not scoring in 2 games isn't particularly unusual, the only two goals Anaheim put up were both short handed breakaways.</div></div>
Here we have 2 different pov from respected Ducks fans about his current value, my personal pov still aligns more with Giggy's. I think Zegras' value may be starting to slip a bit given the issues with scoring, injuries and Cronin but I still think rival GM's are gonna pay the equivalent of 6-10th OVA + Farrell + Mesar type of value, I also think Zegras on the Habs would still be a great fit.

He wasn't the only one taking bad penalties, if you're talking about the Silfverberg interview, they gave up an entire periods worth of power plays, Zegras wasn't the only one doing that. I don't agree with the fact that he's the only one getting benched, and frankly the first call should have gone against Tanev for yanking Zegras to the ground from behind, the refs let that game get completely away from them.
