Quoting: GMBL

The wild take is to think that any team that is looking to win the Cup is going to look to acquire a rookie goaltender who has played 3 NHL games to do so. I don't care that he has franchise potential. Even worse is to think that they are going to move significant roster players to do so. Whether NSH would move Askarov + for Marner is completely irrelevant to that point. I'm sure you're not sitting at home hoping that KA deals Savoie+ for Askarov and he's not even on your main roster. Quite frankly, I don't think any fan on CF is hoping that their GM is going to trade for Askarov to be their starter or play in tandem with another inexperienced goalie. I could be wrong though about the fans, maybe you should make an ACGM with Savoie + UPL for Askarov + and see how well it is received-the value of the trade is irrelevant. No reason to think an NHL executive is going to splurge on him in hopes that he's going to be an instant difference-maker. Maybe Vegas would do something like this if they could but they aren't moving any major roster pieces (save a goalie) to do so.

As for Woll, playing one 1st RD, that's beside the point, I'm not acting like he's experienced. You said he's good enough to lose in the 1st round, so I pointed out that he's undefeated. He also didn't get swept in the 2nd round either. Regardless, Woll has been pretty good (in the 40-odd games that he played), but has struggled to stay healthy and is still inexperienced. Askarov isn't the guy that the Leafs need to pair with him.

The only team that it would make any sense for them to bet on Askarov that is looking to compete is NSH if they look cash in on Saros (as of now they are looking to extend him), but even they will go out and get someone with experience to play with him.

Chew before you swallow. Worry about winning a round before the cup.

Sabres have Levi who has similar potential to Askarov with similar experience and will be in the NHL next year as will Askarov, and UPL who was one of the best in the league this year, we dont have to worry about goaltending. Toronto hasnt had a good goalie since who, Belfour?
