YAY lets pay Johnsson Koshkov AND a second for a guy who Finally made it as a regular at age 26... Holl is better.

JT isn't going anywhere and HUGE over pay for Weeger.
Things to know about Weegar:
1. Was a healthy scratch at least 7 times in 2019/20
2. Played over 70% of his shifts this year with Ekblad
3. Played about 50% of his shifts this year with Barkov and Huberdeau
4. Has a concussion history

So a 14 min/game player prior to this season makes Ekblad a better player?? This would go down as the worst trade and signing in Leafs history. I wouldn't trade Dermott for him.

And then next year after we resign Anderson and Hyman you have about 2-3M left to sign 6 players to fill out the lineup. And we havent even resigned Soup or Lehtonen yet. This does not work.

Didnt really mean to suggest that Sandin is equal to Dermott just he is on option if we are acquiring a rental. He would probably have to be Bobby Orr to give up Sandin for a rental! Dermott or Lilly are probably more realistic for a rental player

FLA trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>firezfurx</b></div><div>Yes but they are TM REL advanced stats, and they were good last year as well.</div></div>
The issue with those stats is that they skew when you have a lot of ice time with the same player(s). Im not saying that he is a bad player, far from it. Just if he were to play in Toronto his numbers would most likely regress to what his previous numbers were like and in that case is he really that much better then say Dermott? The better way to go is an impact rental sometime between christmas and the trade deadline. You are much more likely to get retained salary at this time and can go for a much bigger name. For example Petry (not saying thats who we should target just an example) is on the last year of his deal and we could package Johnsson (Whos value hopefully goes back up after a down year) and one of Dermott, Lily, or Sandin plus picks. Montreal would then retain enough so he can fit under the cap. The rental would walk at the end of the season but thats ok because we now have enough money to resign Hyman and Anderson (Or his replacement). If we get a player like Weegar and sign him we just have to move assets again next summer. We need to get a player on retained salary in order to get that impact player for a playoff run and the best way to do that is at the trade deadline. I would much prefer to acquire a player like Honka before the season starts and see if he fits.

Yes... His look good. Just have to ask yourself why they look good now? Why only one year? How are the advanced stats you are looking at calculated? Etc. Advance stats have weaknesses too. You have to look at other factors.

Solid, not much flashiness, has some grit but can still move the puck, and gets the job done.</div></div>
I agree. I would trade him straight up for Johnsson but we need to keep Kerfoot.

I think we should stick with what we have and get a rental sometime after christmas. A rental would be a more impactful player for the playoffs.

FLA trade
FLA announced before COVID that they were cutting 10m from payroll. Why would they make a trade that increases there payroll? TML now weaker on bottom 6 forwards and marginally better on D. Weegar is OK Dman but only marginally better if at all better then what we have now.

If we go 2 for 2 (Kerfoot Dermott) (Weegar Wallmark)</div></div>
Hes a good dman but not as good as this year shows... 70% of the time he was on with Ekblad and 50% of the time Barkov and Huberdeau. Probably the reason he had a up year.

Well if you trade Stotts and Bouthillier today you cant include Johnsson as the leafs would lose him if they advance in the playoffs (He may even be ready by the time the play ins begin). He is expected to recover by August. Aberg becomes a UFA September 23rd.

Pretty big FLA trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>firezfurx</b></div><div>Do you know what Teammate Relative means? His stats are adjusted based on the % of the time he plays with each of his teammates, and good said teammates are. If he plays with Ekblad 100% his numbers will get shifted down, if he plays with someone equal to him they stay the same, and if he plays with players worse then him they get shifted up. Here's a good database for Teammate relative scores: <a href="https://mapleleafshotstove.com/toronto-maple-leafs-advanced-statistics/#leafsreport" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://mapleleafshotstove.com/toronto-maple-leafs-advanced-statistics/#leafsreport</a></div></div>
These stats compare you vs other teammate stats so if you are playing a lot with the best players your relative stats compared to those that are not will be better. I compared Dermott to Weegar and Dermott scored 87th percentile and Weegar 91st percentile so are they pretty much equal?

Dude thats because he is playing with Ekblad more then anyone else is. He also plays with Barkov about 50% of the time. Im not saying hes bad but he is not as good as you think. If you play with better players your RELATIVE stats are going to look better then someone who doesnt.

Just so you know Weegar spent about 70% of his ice time with Ekblad as his partner. He is a slightly above average Dman worth a 2nd round pick. Be careful because I think you are over paying giving up kerfoot and kapanen.

With WAR and GAR you should also take into account who is on the ice at the same time. Over 70% of the time he was paired with Ekblad. He is good but just like Johnsson his stats may be a little high based on who he is playing with.

He is probably going to make the same as Johnsson on his next contract. He is worth the same. His stats are just slightly above average for a middle dman. Both are worth a second.
