To all the leaf fans thinking you can dump murray for free
Yeah a buyout only cost 600k this year and 2 mil next year. We’ll keep our pick.

Murrays contract doesn’t affect Chicago at all. They can either buy him out (400k this year and 2 mil next year against the cap) or play him this year and hope he’s a tradeable asset at the deadline or draft next year. Also, helps them get to the cap floor.
Hall 50% for 28th and murrays contract for liljegren and Robertson is pretty much what I was thinking in the deal. Could easily swap Robertson for a different prospect. I think Robertson is more slotted for a top six role which he would probably get with the hawks. I agree he doesn’t have a ton of value right now. Could be a great buy low candidate tho.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Leafs certainly are trading Liljgeren and his years of control for one year of Hanifan straight up, and you want to add? Timmins has hope, but shouldn't be slotted in as a regular next season replacing Liljigren. No thanks to Accaril at 3rd line centre.....fourth line winger is his spot. Lafferty never played centre for the Leafs, he's a winger too.</div></div>
Hanifin is a massive upgrade over liljegren. He is probably the top available D on the trade market and if you want 50% retention you have to over pay. That allows them to fill other holes in the lineup.
Acciari and laf are both capable of playing center. They both did with the teams they were on before the leafs. The only reason they didn’t last season is that we had matthews, Tavares, O’Reilly and kampf who were all better options down the middle. Can’t afford the raises that both oreilly and kampf are going to get.

Nucks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wojohawk</b></div><div>Every trade is rejected by the other team immediately. Productive 22 year old RHD on a reasonable contract don't get traded for wingers. 6 million dumps don't happen for 3 spots in the draft....even that part of the 1st. Hawks are not paying for Garland (they MIGHT take himf or free if part of something bigger they like). Bear isn't worth a 2nd, much less a 2nd when he won't be available until Dec/Jan.</div></div>
With the addition of Severson and Provorov CBJ is going to have to move a defencemen. It’s probably Boqvist or Bean. Flipping Boqvist gets you a top 6 ppg winger who’s only 26 (is team controlled for a few years on a good contract so you don’t risk losing him in FA). Strengthens the offence after they made moves to bolster the backend.
Moving up 3 spots and taking 1 year of 6 mil is a smart move. Pitt has the cap and Myers is a good defencemen just isn’t a top pairing guy. Play him lower down the lineup against better matchups and special teams. It’s a great trade for them. If he had more years I’d agree but it’s only one year and fills a need for Pitt with dumolin probably gone. Maybe add some retention but I don’t think it’s too far off.
I agree with the garland move. Maybe a bit to high of a pick but I think he’s a perfect target for them to play alongside Bedard. Still only 27, not a terrible contract (length or $ wise). Can play top 6 role/PP. they can also trade him with retention once his stock raises a bit.
Bear trade came with an extension and he’s a promising young d. Report just came out saying Arizona is targeting cap strapped teams to pick up young NHL talent. Figured he falls perfectly into that category.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Newtown</b></div><div>Why does every team have Murray traded for a 1st and Laughton coming to the Leafs?</div></div>
Because Laughton 50% retained is a perfect fit for the leafs bottom 6. Cost controlled and under contract for 3 years.
Murray has to be dealt or bought out and that’s the going rate (Mrazek last season). Buy out costs them 400k this year and 2 million next year. Rather trade down and keep that money for Nylander and Matthews raises.

Have to get to the cap floor and probably could get more for him at the deadline 50% retained.

I’m not even a Jets fan. But with the pens window closing getting a top 6 power forward who can put up 50-60 points for a 2nd round pick and smith is a pretty good deal. It’s only 1 year 4 million so you aren’t tied to wheeler long term. I think he’d be a great fit in Pittsburgh.

The leafs would have a nasty top-6 and helps solve their cap issues and they can use that to build out the bottom-6.
It’s a lot to give up but Murray is going to take an asset to move unless they buy him out. But they’re going to need that money next year (2 mil) to resign matthews and nylander.

Leafs can also just buy him out this year and take a 600k hit and take the 2 mil hit next year and keep the pick.
Sharks could do the same or play him and hope he gets back to form. Can move up this year and get a pick for him this year or next especially with retention.
