No thanks , Drury passes, & you can no longer add the condition of a player resigning with a team to upgrade or add a pick to a transaction.

Now we can move on from Motte
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Onlyfairtrades1</b></div><div>He turns 35 on 11/19/23 at which time he can sign a 35+ contract. Since he is still rehabbing his hip, it's no rush to sign him now.</div></div>
This is what makes Kane signing a + 35 deal potentially a no go..
What is a 35-plus contract?
A contract is designated a 35+ contract if the players age on the first year of the contract is 35 or older<strong> (as of June 30 prior to the year of the effective contract).</strong>
35+ contracts that are two years in length or longer and:
1. Have a signing bonus in the 2nd or later year, OR
2. Are front-loaded
Will not benefit from a reduced cap hit regardless of the players location of play, termination, retired status, or a buyout. This rule was introduced by the NHL to prevent teams from backloading contracts past when the player was expected to retire. An exception to this rule is that a team will receive a $100,000 cap hit reduction if the player is on the 2nd or later year of the contract and assigned to the minors

Would Tatar take a cheap 1 year deal here
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>He is still unsigned. Very few teams have cap space left.
This happens to someone virtually every year. They wait too long and all they have left is scraps that teams are offering them.
So playing on a very good team can help him get a better contract next year. Hence this type of proposal.
I think 1 x 1.6m is too much of an under pay. I think it will be 1 x 2.5m. BUT time will tell. Bonuses may need to be added to his contract, so the cap hit works to start the year.</div></div>
Tatar isn’t eligible for a contract with performance bonuses, ELC’s, + 35 contracts or UFA players with 400 NHL gamed played coming off of LTIR can get performance bonuses in their deals.

WHAT IF - Rangers Handled LAFs dev differently
Problem was the QMJHL was playing in 20/21 so Lafreniere didn't get that exemption to play in the AHL, he would have had to go back to the Q if he wasn't in the NHL.

Revisiting a Laf deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GoofyFoFoofy</b></div><div>Anderson isn't gonna solve their RW woes with his mid point production and I don't think Othmann is ready for the NHL yet. If I'm Drury I'd rather try my luck at moving Laf or Kreider to RW. The Breadman-Trocheck-Laf line was good for the short time it was assembled last season, Gallant only took it apart cause he ignored stats and goes with his gut, and he'd been eating too much Chipotle.
Mesar and a 1st aren't bad assets to get back at all don't get me wrong, I'm just saying if I'm Drury and I wanna trade a former 1OA I'm looking for something exciting back, and those 2 pieces aren't really exciting.</div></div>
If Lafreneire isn't moving over to RW or Kreider, which i think is doubtful, and It would be a Laviolette call at the end of the day, adding a Top 6 RW like Anderson that fills a hole with his physicality as well, which was something missed in the playoffs last year. This NYR team is looking at its window thats open for the next 3 years. I don't think you can pencil in the same numbers for Anderson as he had with MTL then he could have with NYR especially playing in the top 6 & PP2 or PP1 on a line & team with more offensive weapons. Im not saying he scores 40 goals but 45-60 points if he's healthy wouldn't be be a wild estimate & some more much needed physicality in that top 6. Othmann may need a little time in the AHL but he's pretty close, especially if he's playing his natural LW & then maybe Cuylle gets a look at 3 LW out of the gate if Othmann doesn't make the opening cut..
the 1st in 2024 & Mesar gives Drury more options to add, or, build, its nice to have the flexibility.

Revisiting a Laf deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GoofyFoFoofy</b></div><div>Rangers already have one in Laf, his stats are almost identical to Anderson and his contract is probably gonna come in at that rate. That kind of player isn't in demand for them.
He just needs to get comfortable at RW, or better yet Kreider switches to RW and Laf stays on the left.</div></div>
Problem is Lafreiniere, as of yet, hasn't shown he can play the RW, NYR has a depth at LW (Panarin & Kreider ahead of Laf & i just don't see a coach like Laviolette moving CK over)
Anderson slots in as RW 2 & top prospect Brennan Othman slots in as LW 3
Getting Mesar a former first rounder & MTL's 2024 1st round pick also gives Drury more draft capital to use at the deadline & adds another piece to a weak RW prospect pool or something to add another NHL ready piece for a playoff push,,,

These 4 are all playing in the NCAA for the foreseeable future 2-3 years & not signing ELC's, may see Chemlar next year after his season at Providence is over,
Chemlar, Jaroslav
Fortescue, Drew
Mancini, Vittorio
Perreault, Gabe
Barbashev, Maxim He'll sign his ELC at some point during the 2023/24 season but he's also 2-3 years away from a NHL look.
Miller probably gets 3 year at 4 million per.
Lafreniere is in that 2 year 2.1 - 2.5 range
Quick may get a little more possibly with incentives a + 35 deal if he's a real option, id take a flyer on Alex Nedeljkovic on a 1 or 2 year deal if they can get him at 1.2 - 1.5 per.
Would rather see Will Cuylle take that spot on the 4th line & move on from Motte (again)
Othman playing RW isn't a lock, if they do move him over, he may spend some time in Hartford to start, heck Lafreneire playing RW isn't likely either, he's probably back on that 3 LW spot.

Kreider Zibanejad Blais
Panarin Trocheck Kravtsov
Lafreniere Chytil Kakko
Goodrow Carpenter Reaves/Vesey
still think its an open race for that 3 LD spot for Jones & Hajek but both probably make the club out of camp.
Othmann got sent back to Flint (OHL) a couple hours ago.

Carpenter played for Gallant in Vegas, one of the reasons Drury brought him on board, Rydal is also waiver exempt & the feeling is it may do him well to get more games in on the smaller North American ice in Hartford, at least in the short term.

He’s not as good as Laffy who will most likely play on the top line. Laffy was the 1st overall pick. Kakko was the 2nd. It makes sense that Laffy should be on the first line. Othmann is not a top six player. Kakko will play on the 2nd line like I said before. Othmann has zero experience. Goodrow will most likely be on the 3rd line. Not the 4th. Chytil and Kravtsov need a veteran guy with lots of experience. Carpenter should play. I’ve liked what I’ve seen so far in the preseason. He plays on the 4th line with Reaves and Othmann. D is good but Jones will play instead of Hajek. He hasn’t proven and I like Jones more. Simple as that.</div></div>

I think Othman is going back to Flint (OHL) ....Maybe he sticks around early for the 9 games before his ELC loses its slide option .... but ultimately the kid needs to play top line minutes at just 19, for his longer term development.

I mean they do get draft capital compensation if KK signs an OS somewhere else that isn't matched, so that value is important & would probably define IF Drury matched an OS ....

roster coming together
I think Copp is going to get more something like 5 years @ 5.3 is where Drury wants it to be, so could go 6 @ 5.25.
Id expect to see potentially Will Cuylle with the big club before Othmann, he's a year older (20) better size (6'4 -213) & probably better suited to the bottom 6 initially than Othmann. Cuylle plays with more of an edge & may be more to Gallant's liking, style & the kid can score as well.
Othmann is also ineligible to play in the AHL while Cuylle is, so that added flexibility could also be a factor. Othmann playing in the bottom 6 as a 19 year old may not be the best developmental option longer term.
