With that said you can easily imply that it has to be quality. Howden sucks he is 4th line at best, does not matter if he was a first round pick. They will want one of Laf/Miller, young established players so Chytil/Buch, and then probably Strome for cap purposes and cuz he is a center back, plus a 1st round pick and another pick/prospect</div></div>
Oh i agree that deal proposed is awful for Buffalo, that's not my brainchild.
Your deal isn't gonna happen either, NYR aren't giving up 2 or 3 top 6 forwards, a Top 4 Dman & another 1st for a guy that's played 0 playoff games.

The Sabres reported ask is what amounts to 4, 1st rounder so former 1st's & 1st RD picks.
So this ask is 5 plus ...
What Eichel brings as a player Is only part of what the return will be for him, its the market for him, who can afford him? who has close to the assets to get him? The fact that the Sabres are in a bad way & rebuilding on the back of what was supposed to already be a rebuild, & Eichel likely wanting to get the hell out of there tells me BUF doesn't get the current ask.

That is definitely not gonna do it.
Gorton is waiting for Eichel's formal trade request & then he'll make an offer. No need to overpay for a guy that probably wont play for that team again but, more than that package.

A Trade to Improve
With Matthew Robertson in the system & likely starting in Hartford in 2022, & with a full training camp, d rather have Hajek ,Bidetto & Reunanen hold down LD on that 3rd pair until he's ready.
Dunn cant play defense or not enough to make me want to make a deal for him.

Also, I don’t see Kupari going anywhere, as of right now, unless the kings are getting a better asset than Jones/robertson</div></div>
I mean with the C depth of the LAK, Kopitar, Vilardi, Anderson Dolan , Byfield, Turcotte, Kupari, Tyler Madden, Akil Thomas ... i don't know how many Centers you can play even if you move Kupari & Thomas to the wing .
Zac Jones even with a high offensive ceiling is probably too similar to what the Kings have in the system as far as undersized puck moving D man.
The same reason the Kings would be interested in the bigger (6'4) Robertson is the same reason NYR wants to hold onto him.
Dont think either organization "needs" to make a deal currently so forcing one doesn't make any sense.
Trading Robertson for say Akil Thomas as presented above, doesn't add enough value to NYR, even though they are an organization with a shallow center pool.
Money coming off the books, may attack it UFA (Danault?) or make a move for a C (Eichel, Stamkos?) via trade.

Im less interested in Thomas, unless a piece like a 1C is coming back in a larger package i don't see Gorton moving Robertson.
Zac Jones (LD) & 2021 3rd (NYR) for Jaret Anderson-Dolan ??

I wanted NYR to take Gabe Vilardi @ #7 in that 2017 draft but i don't think the Kings would move him unless Gorton was offering Lundkqvist (RHD)
Zac Jones & 2021 3rd (BUF) for Rasmus Kuapari ?

Blackwell might get Gorton a 3rd round pick. More likely a 4th. If he's dealt & I'm 60/40 he doesn't .

Schneider is probably a year away for being an NHL regular, Hartford is probably where he starts (with Matthew Robertson on his left)
Lundqvist hasn't signed that ELC yet (hell he might not sign to get out of going to Buffalo! ) & if Gorton is trading Lundqvist, he's not giving up Kakko too.
Get a look at Lundkqvist with the big club. Good problems to have.

They just traded up for Schneider in the draft , he's the type of the defenseman they don't have in the system, a comparable would be Ryan Pulock from the NYI but maybe a bit meaner.

Rangers make a run for the playoffs
Rangers decline both,
1st one cuz it just bad & CAP
2nd one would would require CAL retaining and/or a contract going back to CAL, for CAP reasons
NYR need an additional approximately 4.2-5.1 million as a CAP cushion for the Bonuses in the many many ELCs.
In this scenario -
PB's = 10,562,500
allotted amount to surpass cap = 6,112 ,250
Cushion required by NYR = 4,450,000

This ^ !
NYR doesn't actually have the CAP space since they need to cover the performance bonus overage for the ELC players.
Performance BONUSES = 11,212,500
Overage allowance is 7.5 % of the Cap so = 6,112,500
Needed Cushion = 5,100,000

Very unlikely but worth a shot
That FLA trade undoes what JD & Gorton are trying to build. Don't need Yandle at all. Trouba isn't going anywhere in the short term.
Keep the 2023 1st & swap Robertson for Schneider (especially if you were also trying to trade Trouba) , that's about right for value, for anyone that isn't a Sabres homer Fan
Loved Hags but no reason to trade for a 2.75 million per 4th liner.
and the team then has almost zero IN season Cap flexibility..

Assessing trouba options

Fort Lauderdale, is his offseason residence, his wife is in her last year of Medical School down there & probably for tax reasons.
NYC is the likely/probable destination for her medical residency as it was reported when he signed his deal with the NYR. Another reason he likely won't waive that NMC, unless Mrs Trouba's plans have changed.;

Assessing trouba options
A) I don't think NYR have any designs on trading him in the short term. If he was moved or asked to waive his NMC for a move at the earliest it would be 21/22 after all his SB money is paid out. his MNTC kicks in 24/25.
B) Trouba doesn't have sexy offensive numbers but he's getting the the tough assignments of the the other teams top offensive lines, he allows Fox to not get those assignments, especially at home & thrive on the offensive side of the game. Against the CAPS on the road who did Laviolette try to get OVI out against? Not Trouba. (this is not a knock on Fox but trying to show the overall value in a D core) Last season especially it allowed Fox & DeAngelo to play more sheltered minutes & focus on the offensive side of the game, heck those 2 barely played any minutes on the PK last year, & now Fox is looking like the complete package but Trouba's presence in the lineup is a plus factor in that progression. Trouba is like having an excellent Left Guard in (American) Football. Not a lot of stats to track & no fantasy value but you need one to win. Not saying he's played up to that contract, but the stats don't quite tell the entire story unless you watch this NYR team every night. He's also the leader of that very young D core.
Fact is, JT was getting 7 @ 7- 7.5 no matter where he ended up so, until the younger RD's (Shcheider/Lundkqvist) prove they can play in the TOP 4 & PK &PP, Trouba's more than likely not going anywhere.

Who adds to this centre swap
Seems pretty lateral , why move Strome & take on more Cap for the same term? For Gambrel? Teams playing well & so is Strome , unless your getting an asset with maybe less production now but a higher or equal ceiling, younger but with more team control and/or term, its pointless.
Hertl is better in the dots but is he a piece after next season?
NYR likely wont protect Howden & would be hard pressed to protect Gambrell & risking losing say Guathier...
And i definitely don't know why SJ makes that deal?
Pass.
