The trades are good but Carolina doesn't happen, for Staal they need to send DD at half price, De La Rose, McCarron and Barberio.
Also the Tampa trade doesn't happen if the pick is lottery protected, and Tampa wouldn't be sending back a pick either.

The trades are slightly tilted in Habs favor. Overall though I like them.

I agree with Rosatoa, in the Staal trade we need to retain salary on DD but that should be enough. Rosatoa, remember that Habs are taking Staals complete cap hit. Not many team would be able to do that. Also Staal is a UFA and has declined considerably in the past couple years. DD basically becomes a cheap small point producer to help fill Staals spot in Carolina and DeLaRose and the 2nd are basically a prospect and a first rounder as the habs will be near the bottom this year.

Regarding the Drouin trade, I agree with chestermu, Juulsen who is a first round pick last year and a lottery protected 1st rounder this year (which means if the pick is in the lottery, it gets transferred to the following year) is pretty considerable. Minny was offering Dumba. STL offering Fabbri. I would however think that habs would have to retain salary on Gilbert contract and TB would also have to diminish their draft pick from a 2nd to more likely a 4th-5th to realistically show Gilberts worth.

At the end of the day though. these trades would be absolutely pointless in the Habs can't rally to make the playoffs and then do some damage when their in. Even with these players the habs are tight to just make the playoffs. Habs fans can dream but realistically, its time to embrace the tank. Habs management has sneakily already started by not making any changes so far this year.

Completely agree, this was mostly out of boredom than realism.
