Utah will win the Lottery
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Spaceman</b></div><div>Nahhh. Take Silayev. 6'7" good skating D men who are defensive monsters do not come by often. That would solidify them as having the best top 4 in the league for the next decade. Top pair Edvinsson - Seider, 2nd Pair Silayev - Sandin Pellikka.
Can trade other D prospects like Wallinder, Johansson, Buium for skilled forwards.
Although Catton would also be fantastic. I would 100% take him also at #5</div></div>
I really really want to Detroit to move up and grab Catton if he falls to around 10 or so. That said, I would draft Silayev if he was available for the same reasons you mentioned here. Finding skilled forwards is easier than finding defensemen like him.

Detroit would be legit insane to pick a D-man if they won that lottery with how good their d prospect pool is. 100% they take Catton if he's available there

Detroit has Andrew Copp and J T Compher as our current 2C and 3C with Marco Kasper and Nate Danielson coming up in 1-3 years or so. So we've very little to no interest in Mark Scheifele.

Youth Movement in 2024-2025
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Spaceman</b></div><div>I wouldn't be surprised to see Maatta moved but it will happen next summer if it does. It will all depend on the play of Edvinsson, Wallinder and Johansson. All three of these guys will get looks this season, Edvinsson 100% will see time in Detroit. Wallinder and Johansson depending on their play in Grand Rapids. Johansson was scheduled to come up to Detroit for a 9 game stint last year but got injured right before his call up which was very unfortunate. I expect his call up this year. Wallinder has only played 1 game in North America thus far so if he gets called up it won't be until the end of the season after the TDL. Edvinsson will have 1 more year max in the AHL and then he's a Red Wing in 2024/2025. If one of Wallinder or Johansson show they're NHL ready. Maatta will be moved to make way.</div></div>
This team is 2024-2025 so it’s assuming Wallinder makes it by the time he’s like 23 years old which is realistic

Playoffs or bust
Honestly I don't see us trading Berggren and trading Berggren for Debrincat doesn't make a bunch of sense if it costs this much to do so. It's not unreasonable to expect him to score 25 goals next season. He scored 15 in 67 games averaging 13.5 minutes a night. Full season, better line mates (we were running half our AHL team the last third of the season cause of injuries), plus more time on ice should allow him to blossom. Even if Debrincat scores 30 it's not that much more production and we just keep our assets.

The core 4 player who actually needs to go
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Spaceman</b></div><div>I dunno if they would. Tavares at 11m is crap but at 9m, this would actually be a good deal for the Avs. With MacKinnon and Tavares they'd have a formidable 1-2 at C. We saw how badly this team missed both Landeskog and Kadri this year. no Landeskog again next year. Newhook is good but he's not at that great level yet. He may never be. Avs defense is alos arguable the deepest in the league with Makar, Towes, Byram and Girard. They won the cup without Girard too. They could honestly afford to lose him and still be very good on the blueline and win another cup.
Leafs on the other hand just need balance on the ice and the cap sheet. Girard on D would help them immensely and at 5m for the next 4 years. Newhook would be a good top 9 forward for them and the money saved on JT would help bring in another forward.</div></div>
i agree with all of your thoughts on the avs - except for Tavares as the solution. The avs cannot give their 2C 9mil. Period. If you were to do this ACGM from the Avs' perspective, they are in a bad position now and in long term. There are other 2Cs that provide enough (not as much as Tavares) production for ~60% of the Tavares contract, and I expect the avs to lean in that direction, or at least someone like Kuznetsov who starts below 7.8 with the caps probably incentivized to retain on.
Also, I don't think they're giving up on Newhook yet. Team control + solid point production compared to his peers. At ~$2mil bridge deal, he's a great value 3rd liner that could see time on the 2nd.

it’s just speculation tho. it’s not insane based on evidence to think cooley is waiting for the franchise’s future to be secure to sign even if it’s unlikely he ends up elsewhere. if you don’t want to see this stuff don’t go on cf, idk what to say, this is the point of the site

Cat trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sens_Fan33</b></div><div>the leverage is that a whole host of teams want cat...</div></div>
Not at a 9 million cap hit. Thats the kicker, the leverage isn't with the Sens or any acquiring team but with DeBrincat himself. If he says no long term in OTT and also wants a "market rate" deal you are not going to have a ton of suitors for that.
Also I am with Yzerman's plan with the rebuild, which is don't rush it and moving the 1st and or Mazur seems counter to that. I understand takes the Red Wings out of a DeBrincat trade but so be it.

18 + 43 has way more value in a deeper draft than the 7 + 39 and it's not even close.

Me too. Bert is all heart. But he's 29 years old and has had back surgery which likely means his new contract won't age very well. It's a shame the Red Wings were so bad all these years. Bert and Larkin had to pay the price. No playoff opportunities. We always knew Bert was a playoff type player. He played great for Boston. 10 points in 7 games. 😁

Can't see WPG moving Lowry even for an overpay. He is one of the only guys who actually gives it his all every single night and I could see either him or Morrissey as the next captain of this team. I'm not saying value is off, I just think its extremely unlikely WPG considers moving him.
