The "Nylander for 10 mil" ship sailed a while ago. If that's the best Toronto can offer than he'll go to any of Anaheim/Chicago/Vegas/Arizona that can offer him an 11.5-12 million dollar contract.

Hawks don't need to retain on Dickinson if they get Foegle back. Also no reason to dump Niemalainen, he can just be waived.

Allen is a UFA, that retention slot would open up again as soon as the offseason begins.

I don't think Vegas trades a first for Novak unless he comes with a reasonable extension. He's a UFA and a year ago was playing in the AHL.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>So, the devil's in the details. If CHI were to acquire Brown...they've got the cap space to take on those bonuses this year. EDM does not...THEN at the at point it'll move to next year. It's not just automatically sent to next year. MAYBE they're assuming they can trade that away??? Or Holland is expecting he's just not going to be around for it?</div></div>
I believe the bonuses are automatically payed out this year, but the cap hit automatically goes to next year. Since he agreed to a contract with Edmonton and he reached 10 games played with Edmonton, they're the ones who owe him 3 million. Perry for example, had 2 million in salary and 2 million in bonuses on his contract, and that 2 million in bonuses was already paid out before his contract was voided.

TDL moves
Hawks aren't paying assets for anyone, let alone UFA Kubalik who they already gave up on. Also, that Sean Walker trade is horrible. He's a 2nd pairing defenseman who's wayyy overperforming in a contract year. He's worth max a 2nd round pick + a C tier prospect, not all of that.

F em lets revamp quick
It's far too early to give up on Reichel, it's his first full year, the linemate he has the most chemistry with has been injured basically all year, and he's only 21. Soderblom too, he's played great for a rookie starter with the horrific team in front of him. Vladar has been horrible too, much worse than Soderblom on a much better team. He's not even worth a 2nd, let alone Soderblom attached on top.

Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>I agree. It's probably not likely. EDM would have to clear a lot of cap. The only way I could see it working is IF KD got the Wirtz family to shell out some serious dead money. Not just Campbell, but also Connor Brown. We'll have the cap space to take Browns bonuses next year. That's the other piece that's really hurting EDM's future is that they (to a certain extent) mortgaged next year's cap space with these easy bonuses in order to get Connor Brown and they're STILL struggling. Once EDM got the cap space, maybe then they could get a few veterans to buy off that EDM is a place worth attempting a cup run with. Get a Talbot/Ned or potentially Quick...getting (2) goalies for cheap contracts should help. Getting a veteran defensive Dman should help too. I could see TJ Brodie wanting to get the heck out of dodge or maybe Tanev might get them a 1 year contract?</div></div>
That's not how bonuses work though. He's a UFA after this year, he makes that 3 mil this year but it impacts their cap space next year. That's why I don't understand why they played him, if they just waived him to the AHL they wouldn't owe him anything, but by playing him they are now 3 million down the drain next year for nothing in return.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>I don't think CHI takes that EDM trade. Its just too large a contract for too long. It'll probably need very easy conditions to get that 2026 2nd to be a 1st. Like simply making the playoffs before the 2026 draft easy.</div></div>
I think this years 1st, a conditional 2nd that upgrades to a first, and a prospect wouldn't be unreasonable. Edmonton has backed themselves into a corner and they really don't have any other option than to get rid of him. He's literally unplayable, getting shelled in the AHL constantly. Hawks don't even have to keep him, its a really easy buyout that Edmonton just can't afford right now.

new year
I like the framework of the trade, but I think the Canucks would have to throw more assets. Garland is nice but not enough to dump 6 mil in Myers, Zaitsev took a 2nd and 4th last year. Factor in they're trading for Murphy too and I don't think a 1st round pick at least is unreasonable to ask for.

Any offer for Dickinson starts with a 2nd round pick. He's been phenomenal this season playing 3rd and 4th line minutes with no PP time. Also, nobody wants McMann, he's a 27 year old AHL player.

Abruzzese and Timmins are roster filler, maybe Timmins sticks around because Hawks have no RD. I'd take this just for the first though.

Tkachuk hasn't had the chance to go tho free agency again</div></div>
Tkachuk didn't go to free agency, but he did have the power to pick where he wanted to play, it was a sign and trade after all. The Blues made a very large offer for him at the time (Rumor was that it was some combination of Kyrou + a defenseman + picks) but he ultimately chose to play in Florida over St. Louis. I'm sure players like coming home, but that doesn't mean it's a guarantee they will. Look at Toronto native Ryan O'Reilly, he picked the smaller quieter market of Nashville over his hometown Leafs. It's all about the roster and how happy a player is in their situation. Crosby never left for the Habs. Kane and Toews didn't leave Chicago. Etc, etc.

Pretending rebuild over
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>I guess I simply disagree, which is OK! Murphy helps Korchinski's development. Korchinski makes a lot of rookie mistakes and it's not just Murphy's physical presence that help protect KK, but it's also his defense 1st mentality which allows KK the leash to explore his offensive abilities knowing that Murphy will be back there to help clean up. I'm not against having (5) 2nd rounds picks in the 2024 draft...I'm just not willing to give up pieces that help our long term objectives which is Korchinski and his proper development...which to me means Murphy in the short term. We can acquire 2nd round picks in different ways. TRad, Perry, Mrazek...who knows, but it doesn't have to be Murphy. Besides, who else will play RD for the Hawks if Murphy gets traded? Zaitsev? That's a train wreck.</div></div>
This would be nice... if it were true. Korchinski-Murphy has been one of the worst pairs in the entire league this season according to multiple analytics groups, and even just by the eye test Korchinski-Jones has performed a lot better this season. Murphy is just cooked. I doubt anyone picks up that contract so he's likely here anyways, but if a team is offering good, top assets for him I think you have to jump on that. As for who would play together, I think the lines would look something like:
Korchinski - Jones
Vlasic - Zaitsev
Kaiser - Phillips
Tinordi
Alternatively, you could also call up Nolan Allan to finish the season, he plays RD in Rockford

I don't think so. His value is at an all time low and he still has multiple years left at 4 million. Obviously a 1st is preferrable but if a team is willing to offer multiple high seconds for him you absolutely take that.
