Trades with Toronto and Ottawa
Interesting Leaf deal. Stars seem interested obtaining Leafs Dmen (including Polak). Leafs would have to be sure that Honda is at least the equivalent of Zaitsev to make the deal. I think Borgman is going to be NHLer.
Too call Duchene a "great centre". Might be too much optimism.

Dallas says thanks, but no thanks. Much rather keep the best two-way forward on the team than trade him for a backup and an AHL player. Stars can get a backup on the FA market, and Faksa provides the perfect combination of grit and scoring from a middle-6 center. It's going to take a better return to pry him away from the Stars.

That's a solid offer for Simmonds, who is a UFA in a year. I'd accept...maybe squeeze Dallas to eat more of Spezza's deal.

18/19 (thoughts please)
As a Stars fan, I'm thrilled to move on from Spezza and Methot. The thing that really concerns me is the 3 years of $5.85M remaining on Dubinsky's contract. Don't get me wrong, I like Milano, but for us to take the 2-year difference between Dubinsky's contract and the contracts of Spezza and Methot, the Stars might realistically look for Josh Anderson or Oliver Bjorkstrand in return. If Columbus could retain even 1/3 of the contract ($1.95M), the Stars would be more inclined to take Milano.
Overall, I like the concept and I think you are on the right track. I just think that with Dallas having to re-sign Seguin, Faksa, Lindell, Heiskanen, Honka, Pitlick, and some other prospects over the life of Dubinsky's contract that they would look for a slightly more productive return or for Columbus to retain some salary in the deal.

Simmonds >>>Faksa
Laughton = Ritchie
And a 3rd and ECHL/AHLer don't really come close for me.</div></div>
It's going to be all opinion of course, but I would imagine a lot of real GM's would value Faksa over Simmonds. Simmonds is great and I'm not talking him down at all becasue I would love to have him in DAL, but Faksa is already a dominant shutdown center, and is still developing his offense and will become a great 2-way 2nd line center. Considering PHI's depth at wing, I think they would be very interested.

It is more fair but we don't really have a need for Ritchie. We currently have Lehtera, Raffl, Weal, Weise all on the roster still and Ritchie just muddies the waters more.

Changing the approach - trading with MTL, CAR, DET, NYR, PHI, ARI
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Starsfan98</b></div><div>It's a possibility. I think however that you'd be much more likely to get him signed if he hypothetically played a very good season with the Habs than just paying a crazy amount of money.
If there is no trade, Dallas would try to resign Seguin, no matter the cost.</div></div>
Habs are one of the worst teams in the league. The just traded they best goal scorer, their 2nd/3rd best goalscorer and their best goal scoring prospect (draft pick) and Seguin is supposed to have a good season because??? lol
It would be a strike of good luck just to get Seguin in the first place. Him having a good season with a worse offense than Dallas would be catching lighting in a bottle.

Interesting. Just floating it out there since I think it might help fill the needs of both teams (Simmer/Faksa). Just curious what a Stars fan thought instead of the randoms on here.

Dallas Stars 2018-2019
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Starsfan98</b></div><div>I see some potential and merit here. This is close to what probably will happen.
But what about Heiskanen, for example? I think he should be in our system next year. Also probably some young guns from AHL, like Hintz or Gurianov should maybe get a chance.
4 stars for solid idea.</div></div>
Fair, Heiskanen should and will get a good look at next year, and Nill even said that he will come to North America next season. The reason I left him out was because he hadn't played North American style hockey. So give him a year, and then in 2019-2020 he takes Methot's spot when his contract expires. As for Hintz and Gurianov, I think it will come down to who is better between them, Elie, Dickinson, and Ritchie. Out of those 5 I think the latter three will make the cut due to their experience and potential. Otherwise yes I think Hintz and Gurianov will get a good look and a good chance. Thanks for the comment!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rja</b></div><div>Sign him to a one year deal then and give yourself flexibility for a great dman fa class in '19</div></div>
Only reason I give him two is because after those two years there are a couple guys playing for the Texas Stars (Landon Bow and Philippe Desrosiers) that could be ready for an NHL backup role. If they aren't ready after two years, then you let Kari walk and pickup a slightly younger backup for Bishop, until either Jake Oettinger or Colton Point are ready for NHL action.

Thread:
Everyone going for Taveres, I want JVR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Starsfan98</b></div><div>So basically, we get better when we...
- Buyout our 2C
- Play the winger of that line as a center
- Acquire a new winger for that former winger's place
- Get our former player back from a "loan"
- Let two UFA D's walk and replace them with two d-men with no experience?
It's just been disappointing to lose all the work we've done this season in a spun of 10 games time.
If this is the way to prevent this from happening the next season, I'm all for it.</div></div>
- Buy out the 2C that hasn't done anything all year. We are essentially paying $7.5M for a 4th line center, and that is a gross over payment
- Janmark's natural position is Center. He played Center all throughout his pre-NHL days. He only started playing wing with Dallas. He is more than capable of sliding back to Center, if the circumstance calls for it.
- JVR is arguable the best winger available on the free agent market this offseason. No need to give up a prospect, pick, and roster player for Hoffman or Pacioretty if you can get JVR without giving up anything.
- Nichushkin leaving was the best thing for him. He wasn't going to develop under Ruff's system, so he did the best thing in terms of his development. He has been playing extremely well in Russia and will slot into our top-6 nicely next season
- I let two defensemen walk because the replacements are better at fixing the Stars biggest defensive weakness. The biggest issue the Stars defense has had (and it's been exposed over the past month and a half) is their ability to move the puck. Pateryn and Hamhuis are two guys that seem to struggle breaking the puck out of our zone. They also have issues getting the puck through neutral ice cleanly. Right now Klingberg, Lindell, and Honka are the 3 defensemen that can move the puck fairly regularly, and have a much better time breaking out of our end. Honka almost never plays, because of guys like Methot and Pateryn, neither of whom are good puck movers. Kind of hard to mount an attack when we turn the puck over at our own blue line, or we have to dump it down the ice, because we can't make crisp passes. Bringing Honka in full time helps with that problem, and bringing Heiskanen up full time really helps as well. It gives us 2 pairs of defensemen that are adept in all 3 zones and can move the puck, and it gives us a 3rd pair in Johns & Heatherington that can shut down opponents in our own zone.
There is no "quick fix" to the issues that have plagued us the past few years, but this path prevents us from having to give up players in order to get players in return.

As we discussed on one of your teams, I believe, Hanzel is not very good, Nichuskin IMO will never play in the NHL and Honka is a more of a 3rd pairing D man. I think I can do better with Simmonds.

What comes to the title... Getting Rasmus... Kupari, maybe? That would be much more realistic.</div></div>
I agree with you on the bulk of this, but it ultimately depends on what draft pick the rangers end up with. For example, if they end up with the number 3-6 pick overall, three first rounders (including the pick thats 3-6) should be more than enough to get the number one overall. For instance, the last times 1st overall picks were traded, it was a 3rd overall pick and a third rounder for the first overall. Given the hype has changed in the cap era (last time was before crosby) with the number one overall so it could change.
I honestly think that if arizona gets the number one overall they will pull the trigger on an OEL trade since they'll have dahlin cheaper and for longer since OEL is UFA at the end of next year
