Kadri is not coming back. There's no way the Avs give him the term he is looking for.
Mac's raise is covered by Eric Johnson's contract. No need to move Toews or Girard.

I was going to comment on the idiocy of the Colorado trade, but then I saw the Seattle one.
You don't think MacKinnon is as good as Draisaitl, which I'm sorry but I think most people would doubt this. Then you have Seattle retaining about 25m over the next 5 years plus giving up their next 3 1st rounders and next 2 second rounders for him.
And MacKinnon's raise is easily covered by Eric Johnson coming off the books next year.

Panglossian Best of All Possible Worlds
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>And I'm sure I'll get criticism from the UNinformed observers, too.
Bailey wears an "A," so his leadership qualities are self-evident. He's still productive and played in 90% of the games last season while scoring 44 points, and Anaheim is weak at RW. I don't think that he's anything close to negative value.</div></div>
You are confusing someone simply having negative value and someone having negative value in a salary cap situation. A player can be productive and still have negative value given salary cap conditions. Bailey could be useful to a lot of teams, but there are only so many teams that have room for him under the cap. Cap space is a very valuable commodity right now. The teams that have it aren't going to help out those who don't without extra compensation.

Here's the problem with you saying you are happy to pay for Baily. Why????
The Ducks hold all the cards in this deal. Are they desperate to have Baily? No. Are there a lot of teams in competition to take him? No. Do the Isles really need to dump him to be able to sign Kadri, Dobson, and Romanov? Yes.
There is absolutely no reason to give up any value in the deal. And they should ask for sweeteners. Always take advantage when dealing from a position of strength.

Avalanche say no.
Maata doesn't fit their style of play at all. They are all about speed.
And they aren't looking for prospects and draft picks.

Avalanche say no as well. No need for an overpaid depth center that averages a goal every 8 games.
And even if the trades were made, this team isn't even within sniffing distance of the playoffs.

Kadri ZAR Stralman
EJ is not going anywhere. They need his money coming off the books next year to help with Mack, Bo , and Newhook deals.
If they do keep Kadri, which only happens if he takes less than his reported desired contract, it will most likely be Compher being moved.

No need to sign Strome. The money will be better used elsewhere.
If all goes as planned, Newhook will be the 2C. Jost fits well as 3C.
I don't think it's likely Murray stays more than the one year. He is just a stop gap until Barron is ready
The wing spots can be filled with Ranta, Kaut, and Foudy.

I wouldn't do this from the Avs perspective. Yeah, you made the second line better, but you hurt the 3rd line, 4th line and the defense in the process. Plus you gave up 2 future 1st rounders. I'd rather go with what we have and let Newhook mature into Kadri's replacement at 2C.

The Isles aren't going to trade Adams or anyone else for Miska. If Miska ever sees an NHL roster again, it will only be because of a large number of injuries.

11 million for a 2C is nuts. Hopefully Newhook is ready to take over 2C by next year. Then you can spend more on wingers.

More ideas for the Avs
EJ is not getting traded. He did the team a favor waving his NMC for the expansion draft. He is still a capable player when healthy. If not healthy he will go back on LTIR. His contract runs out at the same time as MacKinnon's, so that money is earmarked for Nate's next contract.

A little low on Makar and Grubauer.
Too high on Landeskog.
Don't need Hamilton.
Seattle is not taking EJ. And the Avs would not offer any incentive for them to after he waived his NMC for them. Most likely it will be Donskoi.
Bowers isn't ready, so need to hang onto Jost as 3C.

Kadri - Solves Avs protection issues too
Very doubtful. It creates a hole at 2C that they don't have anyone to fill right now. Jost is best suited as a 3C. Newhook is probably ready to step into the role in a year or so, but not yet.

The Avs have no protection issues. They are fine losing either Donskoi or Compher. They have young guys to replace them and can use the cap space.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Greysuits</b></div><div>They could trade Graves for a forward. I don't see them passing on him unless the Avs pay them to pick some else. I mean why wouldn't Seattle take him and then trade him for Garland themselves?</div></div>
They have to draft at least 14 forwards. They can't just draft all d-men and trade them for forwards. Unless we see a lot of teams go the 8-1 method in protection, the forward pool will be pretty weak. Donskoi will be one of the better ones available.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Greysuits</b></div><div>How goes graves not get taken in the expansion draft?</div></div>
It's highly possible. There are going to be quite a few good D-men available and not many scorers. Donskoi could easily be picked over Graves.

It's already reported that Johnson will waive his NMC, so Toews will be protected.
