Ottawa Senators Depth Chart
I'm not a Sens fan, but I do think they have a lot of talent. I do think you overstated it a bit though.
Of your 8 listed centers; 2 (Chlapik and Paul) are probably career AHLers, 1 (Norris) isn't ready yet and should spend the year in the AHL, and 2 (Anisimov and White) should play the wings. I would make a top line of Tkachuk, Batherson, and Duclair and see what they can do together.
On the Defense, Chabot and Brannstrom are great young talent. Just pair each with an experienced partner and that's your top two lines. Figure out who of the rest are the best shut down pair and that's your third line.
For the wingers you listed, I wouldn't say they are some of the "best prospects in hockey". Batherson is going to be a star. The other three will probably peak out as 3rd or 4th liners.

Capspace
They are going to be in LTIR so it doesn't matter how far under they are as long as they are under. No cap space is going to accrue either way. Their main problem is fitting a full roster under the cap and having a couple of waiver exempt guys on the roster that can be sent up and down in case of injuries.

Sending him down doesn't erase the cap hit. It would reduce it by a little over a million, but then you're stuck with an almost $5 million cap hit for someone not on the team.

Of course my prediction was based on them playing him on a line with Tkachuk and Duclair. If he gets stuck playing 3rd line minutes then Tkachuk will lead the team in points. I predict Batherson will be the 1C within the next couple of years though.

As an Avs fan I want to thank the Sens for helping so much in our turn around.
That being said, the Sens still have alot of good young players.
I would go full youth movement if I were them. Try to trade Ryan if possible while he still has value. Move Anderson as well.
I'd go with the following forward lines;
Tkachuk-Batherson-Duclair (Batherson was a steal in the draft and I think will break out this year)
Boedker-Tierney-Conner Brown
White-Logan Brown-Abramov
Anisimov-Paugeau-Veronneau
On Defense;
Chabot-Zaitsev
Brannstrom-Hainsey (Gotta give the young guy a vet partner)
Borowiecki-Demelo
Goalies;
Nillson
Hogberg
Batherson will lead the team in points, Tkachuk will lead in goals.

I think at this point Donskoi is what he is. He will put up 30-40 points playing on the third line.
Jost is the real break out candidate for the Avs. He will be playing on the wing on the second line with Kadri centering it. Hopefully this will reduce the pressure on him. Plus it's a contract year for him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dbuch29</b></div><div>Darling would absolutely be fine as a #3 goalie.
PEB & Calvert are completely defensive minded and Kamenev has proven to be really solid defensively, Calvert is probably more defensive than Nieto. Idk what the argument is.
It’s just finding value. Avs are in a position to get value from Vegas by taking clarksons cap. Trade a 6th instead of Nieto, it doesn’t matter</div></div>
So where are you going to play Darling? You don't carry three goalies. To keep him stashed with the Eagles, you would take development time from Werner. I would hope we don't have any goalie injuries early in the season. By the time we do have one, Werner should be fine as an emergency 3rd. They just signed Miska to the AHL deal so it's plain they are planning on him being the back up.
That was a brain fart on my part. I meant Colin Wilson instead of Calvert. Nieto-PEB-Calvert are the 4th line. They aren't going to score much, but they will kill penalties and shut down the other team. Putting Kamanev on the fourth line makes it worse because he is not as good at that job as the person he will replace at it. Kamanev has too much offensive ability to waste playing him in a totally defensive role. Either he needs to stay in the AHL and play a top six role and be ready to fill in on the big team in case of an injury to someone on the top 3 lines, or make a move that creates a spot on the top three lines for him. Having him up with the Avs to play on the 4th line does both him and the team a disservice.
I'm all about finding value, but that isn't enough value for me. Vegas has no leverage so they are going to have to overpay for any deals they make to clear space. I would be willing to take on Clarkson if it got us Gusev, or one of their decent prospects (maybe Nicolas Hague) and a 2nd. A second by itself is not enough.

You have obviously not seen Darling play in the last couple of years. There's a reason no one has signed him. There are still a few teams that could use a decent back up goalie.
I didn't say Nieto wasn't replaceable, but he would need to be replaced by someone suited to fill his role. Greer would fill it better than Kamanev. I don't think we are better with Greer than with Nieto though. Kamanev is more of a second or third line player. The fourth line needs to be more defensive minded. If you want to make a move to get Kamanev minutes, trade Calvert instead and put Kamanev on the third line..
A Vegas 2nd rounder is probably going to be in the 50's. There's about a 50/50 shot of whoever is drafted there of ever playing an NHL game, That's not much of a return. Plus you retained part of Nieto's salary.

Deal Nieto so Kamenev can play if he shows well.
Put Clarkson & Cole on Long Term Injury Reserve because... they’re... injured long term?</div></div>
Darling isn't a legit NHL goalie anymore. He is trash.
Kamanev can't fill in for what Nieto does. Nieto is a grinder and penalty killer. Kamanev is neither of those and if you put him in that role, you're going to get burned.
Putting people on LTIR when there is cap space for their contract is of no value. They would just be put on regular IR. If players were acquired later to get close to the cap, they would be placed on LTIR then. LTIR is for cap relief, not just because someone is out for an extended time.

The moves make no sense. Why sign Darling? He's terrible and the goalies for the Eagles are set already with Werner and Miska.
The Vegas trade is just horrible. If you are going to help out Vegas by taking Clarkson, you should get a much better return than a 2nd. And why give up Nieto?
And putting Cole and Clarkson on LTIR would do no good. We have the cap space for their contracts, so there would be no benefit.

I'm not positive, but I believe if they call him up before placing Clarkson on LTIR on the last day of training camp his bonus could still be moved to next year. I think it is only players recalled afterwards that have to hit this year.

Cody Glass is better than any forward they are going to get in return, so they'd be better off just moving Reaves and bringing up Glass. If they are going to get a player in return for Gusov they would be best served with a cheap D-Man.

You say they don't need to trade Gusov and get cap relief, but that is exactly what you did by including Reaves. Shedding Reaves' contract and replacing it with a cheaper one is the only reason you were able to get under the cap.
Here's the situation without including "cap relief".
Vegas has to add some D-men to the roster. You did that by signing two to cheap contracts and recalled another while sending down Zykov. No big deal on Zykov. He'll clear waivers.
That still leaves you over 300K over the cap even with trading Gusov for just picks and prospects. And even if you get under the cap, there is no room to call anyone up in case of an injury.
There are two scenarios that make things work.
Trade Gusov and Reaves or another bigger contract (cap relief) for little to no cap hit in return or trade Eakins and Reaves for little or no return and keep Gusov.
That's the decision they are facing.

I'm not as high on Kaut as many Avs fans, and I still think this is a bad trade. We don't need either a Kreider rental or DeAngelo. Next year's draft looks to be deep and I don't want to give up the pick, even though I expect it to be very late in the round.

Here's what I didn't understand. They spent their first pick on the top goalie in the draft and turned around and signed Bobrovsky for 7 years. Even if it takes Knight 3 years to be NHL ready, he'll still be stuck behind a $10 million/year guy for 4 more years.

Both of the others are decent prospects, Bowers more than Meloche.
Bowers was picked up from Ottawa in the Duchesne deal. He just finished his college career and will probably spend this coming year in the AHL.
Meloche is a possible depth D.

I don't think either team does either trade.
Gusev would be a nice add, but LV wouldn't want that much salary back. They want a young prospect and a decent draft pick. Nieto does nothing for them.
Winnipeg doesn't give up Ehlers for that return, and the Avs don't want his contract for the role he would play. 6 million X 6 more years would complicate extending Landeskog, Girard, Makar, and MacKinnon when their contracts are up.
